Thanks. Very insightful. I have just bought a TD160 and it needs fettling. Regards dust cover, I polished mine with toothpaste and it fetched a lot of the scratches and wear marks out. I also used peek polish to clean the platter and it has a mirror finish now.
thank you for this video. my uncle has the exact same turntable. I am trying to do a quick service as per your video, but the issue I am facing is that the height bracket does not go down when I put the arm switch to the down position. The height bracket does move down when I press it gently with my finger, however the up/down switch does not seem to do anything. Any ideas?
Thank you so much! The issue was solved! The cable was removed from its holding place under the lowering switch, so, switching it up or down did not make any difference at all. Thank you again and greeting from Greece!
Thank you so much for this video👍 I have a couple of questions. - I have read some "experts" say that you can use Sewing Machine Oil. Do you think that would work out fine aswell? - Do you use the same oil for the motor? - If I don't have this "fine needle oil- tank" that you use when putting oil at the shaft on the motor would it be ok to just use the ordinary tank that you use for putting oil in the bearing? - I have a TD166. Do you use the same amount of oil when you "fill it up"? (I guess it's the same size). As you hear I am an amateur on this 😊
Yes, you can use sewing machine oil for the bearing and motor. It is a bit light, but should be fine. Put a drop of oil on the end of a small screwdriver and apply it to the motor shaft.
I've just ordered thorens TD160 with tp16 tonearm. Will see...going back to vinyl as enjoyment is missing with streams. In the past was using TD166 with Tp62 arm which gave me very satisfying experience. Blew the dust from my tube phono pre-amp and waiting for TD160 to arrive. Anyone knows good cartridge for this tonearm ? I believe it's medium mass. I not a fan of bright sound though phono pre-amp will definitely give a bit of warmth. Current cartridge on ordered TT is ortofon m15e super but not aware of condition on sylus. Aim is technical yet warmer sound. Not interested in MC cartridges as preamp doesn't support it
@@TurntableGuy Thanks, I'm a bit worried with treble with AT cartridges. Will look into it. My eyes are mainly set on vintage ortofon 520 mkii. Folks that tweak this TT says it's match made in heaven
Thanks- that’s helpful - do you have a recommendation for a cartridge? Looking for something that’ll work and is not super pricey. Im obviously not very familiar with this world
That dustcover needs to see the dustcover doctor. Those pull $500 in Calgary. It is an OK table. Many improvements can be made: including replacing the flimsy bottom with Thick MDF and adding damping material to the bottom and plinth. New foam in the suspension and a propper tonearm. I tend to think they are overrated and without pitch control it is well, just sad. It looks nice. The Trudeau / NDP govenment has destroyed the economy and the exchange rate is 1 usd : 1.41 CAD
