Going down a rabbit hole of early record changers. And I personally am and have always been a big fan of Dual. But seeing this and the Garrard changers goes to show just how far ahead of the field that Dual was in the race. The 10 series from Dual was light years ahead of these. And then the 12 series put an exclamation point on the death of all other hi fi changers. And I can confirm that my 1219 and 1219 are all still playing stacks of 6 albums flawlessly 50 plus years on. The 10 series while a few might still function suffered from rubber degradation and can’t be fixed. Unless you really want to take on a project. Thanks for posting this video.
Could you afford one? Remember that Thorens was $799 new in 1962 US dollars, back when the TD-124 manual table with a good arm was $230, no cartridge included.
The coolest part of the mechanism is the pincer action. Please post an addendum to the video with a side-on view. This would be far more relevant than showing us the same top view several times. Although, I suppose that given this turntable's well-deserved reputation for being a rejected idea by Rube Goldberg with reliability & durability to match; that seeing the ridiculous thing actually changing more than a single disc before crapping out is pretty freaking ah-mazing all by itself...
Seems to be, that it can handle 10" together with 12". May we not forget, that initially the 10" format was popular, because the disc can hold the content of 4 shellac records the same size.
