Fight of the year? I think there’s a better (and “similar”) fight later in the show if I remember correctly. But... “Hinokami” was fight of the year for me. Hinokami elevated that whole season and raised Demon Slayer into the new big three along with My Hero Academia and One Piece (is still going strong). The show had several other great fights, great animation, etc. but that fight really stood out within that show and in anime as a whole, partly because of emotional investment, and emotional and technical narrative but even more so because of how aesthetically pleasing and coordinated it was (music, art style, animation, narrative, subject, etc.) Also, Demon Slayer is not “generic” it’s conventional but masterly refined (while giving us a great incest-free brother-sister relationship, a rarity in anime it seems). I did enjoy Vinland Saga a lot but more so for the narrative, including the emotional narrative of the fight scenes but the fight scenes aren’t that great technically which is why I’d put many fights in Demon Slayer over Vinland Saga but the fights serve different purposes in each respective show. Outside of these two shows I really liked MHA’s Mirio vs Overhaul and Attack on Titan Levi vs Beast Titan.

Anyone want to discuss Askeladd's character. I think he's a well explored character but doesn't necessarily go through a lot of development on screen.
