Thanks for this! I too struggled to get the grey section back onto the yellow one and I don't have a vice or strong muscles.... I warmed the edge of the grey section with a hot hairdryer for a minute and it worked a dream - just clicked back on!!!

That is a really great idea. I think I’ll try that in another video to see how it works taking it apart too!

Thank you - this was really helpful! I found the bits didn't come apart anything like as easy for me, but the fact that you had done it meant I knew it was possible, so kept trying. I don't know why they don't make it easier. Hoovered so much better afterwards.

I don’t think he cleaned the filter in the yellow rolling ball at the bottom? Dyson instructions say to wash the 2 filters every 30 days! I doubt many people do that.

Sometimes I throw the squishy filters in the washing machine with cloths. I have used washing up liquid.

@@bootsowen how long did you leave the filter to soak and was it hard to rinse out all the soapy water the reason im asking is my dyson which is not an upright its a cylinder is starting to smell of vomit ive washed the filter twice in cold water only and washed the bucket in soapy water the smell isnt so bad now but still a faint smell when i switch it on then it fades but would like to get rid of it tottaly the dyson was expensive of course as dysons are so dont want to buy a new one just yet have you any tips how to get rid of the smell sorry msg is so long
@bootsowen

Just soak it till it’s wet. Then run some suds into it, just enough to make a lather. Then rinse and pump it under running water until the suds are gone. Leave it to dry. Really dry. If it smells like vom are you sure if it’s the filters. It might need a full clean through. Take it to pieces. I have posted some videos of this too. You can buy new filters on eBay or Amazon cheap. I have posted a link to my Amazon on all videos of mine. Thanks

@@bootsowen Dysons are great they have a lot of suck but they do require a lot of maintaining to keep working well, almost every time you use it you have to clean or unclog something to get it to work properly. Once you do though they are one of the best at their job.

Honestly not being a clever twat, just a genuine question. Considering the amount of (hot?) water used, the detergent going down the sink and the time etc - would a "cheap" replacement for the filters be a better option?

I guess it depends on where your priorities are. Some people love working and buying stuff, a basic rate taxpayer in the UK takes home about 66% of their salary, so basically anything you buy is 50% more expensive. so if you make £10/hour and the thing costs £5 then you are working 45mins to afford it. b But there are other expenses with work too , especially if you commute. Then you have to wait for it to come in the mail, or go and get it. I guess there are resources in making a new thing and transporting it, packaging it, etc. Then you get to dispose of the old thing, most people where I live have to pay somehow to have waste removed. In terms of washing it, lets say you use rainwater, heat it with solar, and discard it in the garden, then the impact is low, but you have to consider your time. On the other hand you might pay for water that is potable and chlorinated, you might heat it with grid electricity and pay for disposal. Water is about 1-2 pence per litre, heating 20 litres of it from 15deg c to 40 deg c will use about 0.58 kWh, which is about 15-25 pence. Add soap, And again, you have to work to pay for it so there is a 50% loading for the lower rate tax payer and more for higher rate. I started typing to see if I could answer your question, but I think I am sure now that whatever way you look at it it is cheaper to wash it. As for the environment, that is up to you. I think household dust and soap are biodegradable, it depends on the soap I guess. But I suspect that it is better to wash it. On top of all that does a washed filter perform as well as a brand new one. I reckon so for some types of filters and not so much for others. So again it depends. What do you think. Maybe you live somewhere else and have different numbers. I'd love to compare.
