2, 3(HOTA) and 5. That's it. Pretty optimistic about this. People who worked on 5 are working on this, which I liked. I like the 5 artstyle a lot but I was hoping for something different, like that Hurricane Castle remake. I miss the photorealistic approach of 3 and the fairy tale feel of 1 and 2.
I am in general pretty positive towards this. I am sure Ubisoft will try to nickle and dime us with all kinds of bullshit (always online, microtransactions, etc.), so we'll have to see. My main issue, that you also touch on, is the modern tendency to overdesign everything to hell and back. Giant shoulderpads, gold filigree on every piece of armor, tons and tons of extraneous details (the phoenix with four wings, for example, or the giant statues in every town) making everything look very visually busy and losing readability and losing some of the "groundedness" of the older games. My gold standard for this is the Wood Elf. In the old games, he looked like a guy in traveling clothing, basically looking like Errol Flynn's Robin Hood. Classic and pretty grounded. That's never going to happen again, now the elf archer unit has to have lots of tattoos and face paint and vines growing around them, and the bow has to have gold details and carvings on it, and maybe two bowstrings, and a giant arrow, etc. etc. Basically it's Warcraft or Final Fantasy (or Pathfinder I guess). I like those games, but it's becoming more and more tireing to see EVERY fantasy universe pivot to that kind of heroically-exaggerated style, as if they're all American superhero comics or manga. I'm trying to keep that negativity in check though, I don't want to just whine and whine, I WANT to like stuff, lol. So yeah, I'm IN GENERAL pretty positive. The adventure map, at least, looks colorful and warm, which is pretty reminiscent of Heroes 1-3.
The castles does not look good in my opinion. They are too repetitive and lack of soul somehow. Would be better some atmospheric background style towns such as in heroes 1-3
u do really need some talent to put all unit buildings together and look great like in hmm3. overall towntheme, all of them looks mediocre. half of the units look like they come straight from WoW which i really hate. the advanture map looks quite nice i give them that.
With only 6 factions i really hope there won't be Either / Or upgrade paths in towns to get new units or any kind of buildings. I hate that mechanic in Heroes games.
This game is going to be yet another nostalgia grab. The homm formula had its peak at heroes 5. Then 6&7 fell, just like 4. Except after 4 we had a massive upgrade in 5. Maybe unfrozen and ubisoft are just testing waters, before giving us an Actual high-budget succesor - homm8. There is a lot that could be improved from 5: better 3d town scenes, better unit roasters, better campaign map mechanics, better skills, ect. Just think about most irritating things about 5 and improve from there.
I thought people preferred 3 as their favorite. I played the first 5 i did enjoy the graohics in 5 the most. But seems people are still playing 3 to this day.
I like the concept of Enroth, Axeoth and Xeen, where the fantasy and sci-fi were mixed-up to tell a its weird story. It makes it atypical and unique, about the design, lore etc... Ashan was the reboot of the story that Ubisoft did not understand, but they find the best opportunity to reboot the Might and magic (also HOMM) saga. With the release of HOMM 5 and Dark messiah, some good games good stories and trash dialogue. I liked the 6/7 story line they did therefore its lack of content, gameplay. Everything was simplified on the 6 and the 7 looked like unfinished for me. Also the lore of ashan wasn't finished with Sareth's choice. We didn't see the ascension of Raelag by Tieru
@@BrovarSpirytus It all comes down to whatever studio is actually making the game. Ubisoft is just a publisher here. Homm 5 was owned by ubisoft, but it was russians from Nival who created it. So important part is that new homm game gets done by people who know and love the series.
@@phero2 Yeah, I know, I'm just saying I prefer the new ones. I got my first computer in 1986, so I "was there". Nostaliga is a delusion, so to speak. New game are a lot better than the old ones were.
I just hope they tone down the "Warcraft" style with the over-the--top armors, swords etc. Personally I like the more realistic approach to the art style 😅
If they let the guy who named this game make any other decisions on it's development then we're already fucked. Plus you can still play Homm 3 with great HD upscaled graphics, all DLC and even custom factions completely for free. Like right now, on almost any PC made in the last 10 years. The only thing this game has over the current state of Homm 3 is the multiplayer experience. As much as I want it, I do not think they'll be able to pull this off.
By that logic, why play video games at all? Chess still plays great, Go is at its peak, and don't get me started on the slow return of the Royal Game of Ur. Oh, what a time to be alive!
It's amazing that it took so long to see something I would be willing to try. But if there are some stupid micro transactions, the chance I would is pretty low. Songs of conquest was nice enough I don't need to force myself into some nonsense in case they manage to poison this.
I have a good feeling about this one! The fact the developer is taking feedback from the competitive scene gives me hope. And they also contacted some of the single player & campain players. Saw some streams with the developer and I think they know a lot about HOMM. Hearing that they know the Angels/Wyvern/Cyclops "dwellings" are very impactful in PvP, talking some advanced tavern mechanics, and some other things that you normally learn only after playing hundreds and hundreds of hours of PvP makes me have hope that this game will be at least good, if not great. Also, I like how the world map looks. It doesn't have the fairy tale feel of HOMM 1 and 2, but I really like it. I think the way the battlefield and the units look is good, and they can do some great unit animation and spell effects. Regarding the towns/castles, I have mixed impressions but I'll wait to see them, fingers crossed. GL Unfrozen!
In my experience listening to the competitive crowd hurts the game. Ends up making it difficult to play if you arent competitive so new players arent as interested. From what i've seen though it does look good so far. I hope this brings some life to the series again
You are right. I have played HoMM for 30 years now and have all the games (yes, even 7) but I am single player only. I am not interested in multi-player and competitive crowd giving their input. If the game turns out leaning heavily towards multi-player, I am not picking it up, regardless how much I love Heroes games.
My opinion? I am trying to be cautious.... not cautiously optimistic, mind you! That i can't be considering everything Heroes related that came after HoMM 5. But i'll try to welcome it with open mind, at least until more info becomes available. Personally, just like you, i'm not a fan of competitive multiplayer being the focus, as this (at least for my tastes) provides for poorer and less imaginative gameplay, and also, much MUCH less quality single player content, mostly in the form of campaigns and scenarios.
I want it, but Im also very warry. I also love Songs of Conquest and Im hoping this doesnt steal all their thunder over there at lava potion. It looks alot like Songs of Conquest.
@@messire9837 I just grinded on Dark Side. XEEN gets one-hit with the XEEN-slayer sword. SHELTEM himself is not even a fight, CORAK gets rid of him for you in a cutscene.
I have played all games since 3, including WOG and all that, I played 4 ... my fav was 5, i loved 6, 7 was alright if you closed one of your eyes, but it was truly alright. I have SOQ, and I never understood the crying of those people who cry that "3 was the last heroes, 3 was the best heroes etc." ... end ? There are many of us who are not crying about that we liked all heroes games, and we played them all, and we have favorites other than 3, my all time favorite is 5 even though it did not age really good with time. I am expecting this one, and I have hope as you said it ... that to be just ok. Im fine with it, and I hope one day for a full blown heroes of might and magic game with amazing graphics one day again as in 5, 6, 7 in terms of big and good graphics. 6 and 7 had incredible graphics with all their minuses and short comings, they were still an alright games.
On one of their streams, the developers said that realistic style would look bad in the game. But there is an intermediate step between realism and grotesque! The huge heels on the priestess and the shoulder pads on the knight are just disgusting.
It is extremely expensive to make and more importantly ANIMATE realistic graphics. This is not an AAA game and the devs already have experience with this exaggerated style from making Itarus. Maybe the next Heroes will look like Heroes III but 3D, but you can't expect miracles (yet) from a team of 50 people who are single-handedly resurrecting this series.
@@nordstar2698 50, huh? Single and headly , I hear you say? Then How many devs do you think made Heroes III in the first place without a proprietary prebuilt engine or even the need to call it a miracle? 🧐
I really appreciate the effort to bring back the visual clarity of the classic games before they went full 3D. The only thing missing is some texture and grit in places so it doesn't look like a mobile game - the towns especially. But it's still miles better than the forgettable generic blandfest of the last few titles. One thing I hope for is to speed up the pacing a bit because the reason I don't play these games anymore is because of how long it takes to finish even a single map. At some point it just becomes a slog and a logistics management simulator. I had the same problem with Songs of Conquest - played a bit and then never touched it again. So for me the one hero blitz mode sounds like it might be adressing this exact issue.
The art direction is debatable, but the gameplay looks exactly like h3,maybe because of the success of jebus cross in Russia and esatern Europe, that's a good sign. the series was misguided since h4.
Looking forward to this. I love Heroes 3 but I have played enough if it and will gladly move on if there is a worthy successor. (I haven't tried Songs of Conquest yet.)
Honestly i think it looks great, i like the artstyle. And i know im like the only HoMM 6 fan, but I'd like some return of dynasty artifacts/progression
In my opinion the game can get chance because it does look to me okay. At least what information was said about the game will get mod support too so probably beyond the basic map editor tool a lot of things can be fixed or changed by the players later all is depending on what kind of engine they are using. If the said engine enables the mods well you probably can suite your balance on your own taste. At least that is what I am doing on games what can be modded and have scripts that let me to change values and add items. The graphic is okay in my opinion each game had a style the only issue itself is Ubisoft because they are out of touch very often. The studio who develops probably partly developed earlier games at least some member did in that studio so they have connection with it and want to make possible a better game. I will givin a try to it once it's done and later more content added.
If you want to hear Unacomn more often, you can hear AND see him on the Game Chroniclers podcast we started on my channel: ru-vid.com/group/PLQCSYdOjJ9MhlxPdtr2wfD1m-b_1l4Lct
I personally would love a mod with one hero and every castle you conquer gets automatically converted to your faction. I played every heroes, even 1, even the old DOS King's Bounty, and the limited hero army space means having just 7 units you can recruit at every single castle you own is optimal. You picked Dungeon, I picked Necro, let's have a Dungeon vs Necro fight! Don't mix and match! And none of that recruiting 8 heroes bullshit to scout the map and pick up resources, making a turn last 10 minutes.
I like it so far but regarding graphic I think they should work a bit on some units and castles look. I think cartoon style is good as long it’s not going in direction of Warcraft. I don’t like that some creatures like Medusa looks friendly and sweet. Also not fan of female unit with weapon (ball with spikes on chain). Basically I don’t like h5 style of units. If it’s olden era let’s keep it as faithful as possible to1-3. Also not every 2nd unit must be female(fe elfs). I think h7 was great example of nice made units (way better than homm5)
🤣🤣🤣 It's the ONLY setting ubi created you mad me'lad, as opposed to 6 original ones made by NWC, Aexoth included. Stop talking nonsense. Also you don't get to disrespect M&M original lore like that. What are you, 15 years old? Please let the adults in the comment section's peak already.
Neat, I didn't know this was a thing! So far, I dislike the unit models but I can make peace with that if the combat is good. The campaign map, however, looks very good! I'll keep and eye on it and hope that Ubisoft doesn't fuck it up yet again.
@@messire9837 The Steam page says there will be a campaign and single player scenarios. Can we be sure that's not gonna change? Of course not, it's fucking Ubisoft. I wouldn't trust them to do anything right.
I originally saw this video and looked at the title and thought video was going to be a nostalgia trip, later I found out that there is going to be a new HoMaM game and decided to watch it earlier
Songs of Conquest didn't sell that well. At all. If anything, I'd speculate that the fact they greenlit a HoMM board game, a traditional video game (Olden Era), and have been shopping screenplays for a TV series, indicates they are trying to rethink/revive this IP they've been sitting on for a long time.
Hello everybody, I take some time to write a feedback because this project seem a lot to me. Clearly, i don't like this art style because it feel childish : what i liked in HoMM2 & 3 was they tried to create photorealistic graphics for all elements : townscreens, monsters, map objects… and this is why HoMM3 is so unique ! Making this World of Warcraft artstyle denature my favorite licence and i'm not happy with that : in Olden Era the spellbook even look like a toy. =/ Seriously, if Ubisoft doesn't want to disapoint fans once again, he has to allow Unfrozen developpers to look at Tomasz Marianski and Archon Studio work, who are both more respectfull of the source. And to conclude, i want to add that - in my opinion - the success of HoMM3 Board Game is because true fans of this licence want to rediscover our favorite faction with ehanced graphics : i wish to see a wonderfull Tower town screen with all her blues circles roofs pointed to the skies in 3D, i cannot stand to discover a beautiful landscape in HD adventure map like in the board game tiles, et cætera. Anyway, i think that the art style of the game should be determined by a public pool before the developement is over, because for now i more look about Frantastic (who is actually made by the old lead designer of HoMM3). Sorry to write so much, but i'm not good in english and i trully want to be understood by Ubisoft and Undrozen. To finish with a good thing, i like the "burning paper" effect when you progress on adventure map, and i like the possibily to change the fog of war apparence. Regards, Orlulas from Brittany - France.
Yeah, they hate us, and now after shitting on the series for decades they just go for another cashgrab. I would be surprised if its going to turn out an OK game but there is no way a game can be great when developer is trend chasing.
I love this franchise so much that I have tried to find something good in all of the games. Even the last 2. If Ubisoft could just avoid destroying this...we can only hope it's an ok game. Maps look great, units and towns not so much.
it might be the same situation as with new prince of persia. Ubisoft gave it to smaller company to create and they managed to make a good game. The only downside of Ubisoft being a publisher is that this game has an awful ubisoft connect launcher.
I think that taking advice from the competitive scene is a big misstep. What made Heroes games fun was that it was ridiculously unbalanced. Dimension door, Town Portal, Mass Berserk, Set of the Undead King and even Diplomacy were fun as hell and made for a chaotic power trip that was also present in the RPG series. Overbalancing just takes the fun out of it and makes the game bland, one of the reasons I went back to Heroes 3 complete from The Horn of the Abyss despite the quality content that it brought to the game. edit: Yeah forgot to mention, it's Ubisoft so I expect the worst customer experience as possible (always online with an Ubi account and so on...).
Don't forget the unstopable, ever growing army of skeletons in Heroes of Might and Magic 2. Haha, it was so broken but was fun when you played a multiplayer game against another player who was also playing Undead.
very low expectation, since it's still Ubisoft afterall. If it doesn't suddenly go live service, I'm gonna say there's something very weird happens in Ubisoft office. although as low as it is, still better than hoping there'll be a decent Disciples III game.
I'm not sure which I fear more. The game not being good or the game actually being good but Ubisoft shoving all the ubisoft garbage in it you mentioned, like always online, microtransactions and other bullshit which I refuse to support.
Songs of Conquest was a huge disappointment for me and so its nice to have something to look forward to. Personally I think the world map looks great and is reminiscent of HoMM3 and I love seeing town screens.
As a Russian, I say that the game will be a banger, no problems. I say this as a Russian beacause developers have already given some interviews in Russian, where they literally spoiled 70% of the game content. The game will contain the best from V and III parts. Also the game will be completely modable, and developers interviewed themselves many Russian professional HoMM III youtubers and streamers, asking them about balance, multiplayer, features, etc. So no worries about the game, it will be 100% playable, and 50% chance that it will be better than the 3d part, because of how many information developers gathered to make the game being the best as much as possible.
I'm mostly concerned about the story. How long ago before the HoMM 1 is it set? How they will handle Dark Elves if they are meant to be Dungeon Overlords instead living on a surface with Trolls, Minotaurs, Humans. Does that mean they will decanonize Might&Magic VI-IX? Jadame has a lot of connection with Elemental Planes, so I'd love to see how they'd handle it. Also there's a lot to be said about the Ancients and the colony ships if it happens to be early days of colonization.
every homm game since Ubi took over has been a flop. Maybe except H5 but that had problems also. What we need is a competent team to remaster H3 and bring new features to it. this will end up half baked like all the others.
If they polish the graphics enough, it can look really great just like H3. Honetsly, it's the towns that look too cartoonish, the gameplay itself is not that bad at all.
I thinks the art is good, but it's overused. There like hundreds of other games with the same art. I suspect the huge portion of H3 Olden era art is AI generated.
Enroth or more like Jadame actually, is a great choice, for lore reasons. Also, Ubisoft can't story, so we're better of with the original setting, trust me. I must admit I wish then went back even further, to the original MM 1>5, for a REAL change. But hey. As I said, ubisoft couldn't ride a story even if it was a talking horse.. So that's cool. At least on planet Antagarich, the story's already there.
Songs of Conquest introduced too many changes to the classic formula that it doesn't really feel like heroes game to me. And they said that there won't be any microtransactions apart from DLC's which will add new towns, so if they will contain new campaigns they will basically be like heroes 3 expansions.
