I don't feel Jeff was trying to be a perfect micro vocalist on this. He wasn't trying to get millions of streams, strike it rich or get a record deal off this. In my opinion he was trying to connect with his soul, and the souls of whoever listened to it. Like the guy said at the end "Wow". Sometimes the perfect version of something, was the version that was meant to be unperfected. This is the best Hallelujah I'll ever hear.

Oh and in the beginning you talk about his fumbling around and his looseness... Well that was because Jeff didn't "play" the music, he became the music. Think about some of the greats and it kind of goes along with what you said about Jeff... Jimi Hendrix... He was not technical, although he was amazing and then look at somebody like Keith Moon... Again not technical but amazing!

Hi Carl,.. You said "I'm loosing something this year" and your struggling to find motivation. Have you ever heard of a book called "The war of art" by Steven Pressfield. Its a short little book a lot of people refer to when there loosing motivation. I kept hearing people mention it in other books I've read. thanks.

Jeff Buckley was pretty much similar to Jimmy Page in terms of playing. Sloppy sometimes but overall it sounded intoxicating.

You should listen to 'yeh jo halka halka suroor hai' by Jeff Buckley which was originally performed by Nusrat Fateh Ali khan. Jeff's range in that song was amazing. Don't necessarily react to it but you must give it a try.

Thanks for the video. One of the best I’ve seen on this song but I’m yet to hear any vocal coach putting the lyrics into the musical context. It’s all well and good to understand and be able to use the technique, but the technique has a time and place. Obviously, a “cold and broken hallelujah” needs to be so different to the “every breath we drew was hallelujah”. Jeff’s mastery wasn’t the technique - but really, it was his ability to feel into the song and embody it. I’d love to see you do this one again, with the emotional context overlaid. Thank you!
