Mike, Thanks for what you do. I was a Case Dealer for 35 years and for a company to get that real life experience with their machines, and also candid and truthful feedback is imperative for building quality equipment as well as improving brand awareness. I love your channel. Thanks again.
Mike, this review is one of the most complete reviews I have ever seen, it is very detailed and I feel unbiased, great job, you did your job, Case should be happy with it
I’m not a equipment operator but have operated equipment in my past, I’ve been a Certification Welder for 37 years and now retired and I enjoy watching y’all fabricate different things in your shop! Thanks Mike, tell Aaron and Jerry hey for me, prayers for them and their families too! 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
I've never considered Aaron a "operator" but watching him run this machine and build his confidence has made me believe he is on the pathway to becoming one
I can't speak to the Case dozer line, but we run 3 580SN backhoes and a 621F articulating loader at work, and as you said servicability is top notch. They are very easy to get to everything for routine service. Great recap, looks like a nice machine.
You were very smart in the beginning by being honest and not a brand fanboy. Its what has allowed for awesome opportunities to test lost of machines. I really do appreciate videos of trying new machines it seems like alot of fun. Take care.
I grew up in Kentucky, on a farm running David Brown, that became case equipment, excellent heritage... I don't do that kind of work any more, but looks like a solid machine I sure hope Case puts some more equipment on the channel !
@@dvandkq Not really but he is getting pretty good on this equipment. He used to only run the roller and hop in the CTL from time to time. Recently he has been getting on more and more of DPs equipment and he has really gotten comfortable on it and has been doing great. He is leaps and bounds better on equipment now then he was just last year.
Good morning Mike. I absolutely love the details that you point out!! Case couldn't have found a better spot on operator to test this machine than yourself especially with the different applications you bring to the table for 1650m. Really appreciate you discussing the front pin on the blade. I feel that is one thing that a lot of people overlook or not even pay a lot of attention to!! But the fact that you do your own repairs and maintenance probably saves you a lot of time and money having the front pin system the 1650m has. It's an absolute pleasure watching and listening to all the different projects and applications you bring for dozers and qualities your very fair and open with personal preferences and opinions on key items that can be very crucial for different applications thank you again happy Thanksgiving to you and your family.
Mike, since you read every comment... one thing I appreciate as a blue collar guy (commercial super) is the fact that you don't "use" your channel, your popularity, your "platform" etc. I've been watching religiously for years now and I can't say I've ever once heard anything about politics, religion, or really anything at all about your beliefs (other than maybe on a live once? Not sure) This is impressive, and I admire the care and the deliberate filming/editing that must entail. As a fellow Hoosier from a little north of you, I really enjoy watching all the videos, and I especially love watching the fleet of equipment grow at a pace I feel like I could someday emulate, it's way different than the big name site guys up here that seem like they're in a completely unattainable place. Anyways, telling all my subs to look you up, hopefully helping push you towards 200k!!!
You do get down to the nuts and bolts of an evaluation, good or bad and when your honest about the machine is what the company wants. I liked how you didn't bring up about it breaking down, you and the factory no doubt have had conversations about it and you mentioned it was going back to the factory from here and didn't rag on about it. Poop happens and you move forward, In all I think you did a good job on the evaluation. Keep up the good work Mike.
I have a Case 550E dozer (new from 1995- around 4500 hrs, now). I haven't used it much in the last 15 years, but it has been "good to me". There is no cab so the ergonomics aren't there(to be expected). I have no serious complaints about any mechanical problems.
As a man who grew up running CASE from a family business that I now own my own company. I can say I have always loved case simply because as the econmy slumped in 2006-2009 I went to a Gas pipeline company that had many machines. Power by far is case hands down. Now this is strictly (Excavator/skid steer/backhoe) experience. I have not had much time in the seat of the new dozers, cant put much on them currently. But if you looking for a skidsteer that has the best overall power look into case. Currently looking into the 300excavator and the 1650 dozer.
Worked in a quarry, and the way to go with new equipment soon ended up being shipped out once warranty was up and let someone else have the issues....way too complicated to maintain and /or repair. However, that Case looks to be the exception to the rule. The KISS concept is very evident on it, and that makes it very easy to look after and keep running. Definitely has plenty of snot to push a bladefull with ease, and all of you looked very comfortable running it. Aaron in particular will miss it, as it has given his confidence a massive boost, and he's well on the way to becoming a top operator now..😊👍 Shame it has to go back, as its proven to be worthy of a 'Dirt Perfect' sticker, but appreciate you don't have a position in the fleet for it to fill at the moment. If nothing else, it has given you food for thought for future replacements though, DP. Great honest review, buddy, and I'm sure the people at Case will appreciate that...😊👍 Already looking forward to seeing how that smaller Case dozer perfoms, and seeing if the D4 has a challenger for it's spot...😊👍
Isn't the advantage of more gears, more speed and more power? In a four speed, one gear may be too low and not working the machine hard enough but the next higher gear is too high and over works the machine. I agree the lag time in shifting is a pain and the more gears you have the more you have to deal with that lag time. If they could make the gear shifting more seamless, having more gears would definitely help in getting the most out of the machine. It would be interesting to test other brands to see if anyone has cured the lag time shifting issue. I may be wrong but, the blade looks to be a little light. Beefing it up would help with durability and also help with the light front end issue. I appreciate your obviously non biased assessments, now get back to work. 👍
We run a 1150K on our farm, It has 2300 hours on it now . I love it. Good power , sounds sweet and it is big enough to take out pretty big trees or push a lot of dirt. The controls respond pretty quick. It has the extended life track bushings. So far we haven't had to put any parts on it except regular maintenance .My only complaint is the cab door is a little hard to get in and out of, I am a bigger guy so my shoulders hit unless i go in sideways. Love your videos!
With today's electronics and software , they should be able to have a " service mode " , where the machine automatically beeps when it detects swearing in every language they have a service manual available for .
Amazing job sharing your thoughts on a real life test by fire.. putting this machine through its paces. And giving your honest accessment and know that it helps both those looking into adding a piece of equipment like this to the invaluable feedback to Case themselves. Truly enjoyed watching you take this dozer through its paces and demonstrate your skill set at running it. In closing you make a brilliant point from a business standpoint on specific application and use of equipment like this and the capital cost and long term making this work for your specific business. Always great to see you break this all down and you share your knowledge.😎🇺🇸🚜🛠️😇🙏
I’m definitely going to miss seeing this dozer on your channel. Watching MBTS running the Case dozer was probably my favorite part about this series. You could definitely see his confidence increase while operating. Thanks to Case for letting you all use the dozer and bringing us along.
Good morning mike. nice review on the Case 1650. Your one of my favorite channel aways looking for your next video. You got a great group of guys that now how to get the job done. Y'all be safe out there and God bless y'all. PS Thanks Case for letting mike and gang to demo your equipment.
Good review Mike you touched on about everything I will say I own a case and several other dozers and I liked the Case by far more than the other ones that I had they were simple , priced better and they performed well and held up well to me that’s all you can ask for
This 1650 always appeared to work exceptionally well for it's size.If you can work with Case so that it will do fine work you can get rid of the D4 and improve productivity. What is coming next?
Hello Anthony, I doubt Mike will get rid of the D4, He might just store it on the farm and show Jenna how it works and she will show Maize how to safely operate it and finally Gunner will take a crack on it and it will become a family heirloom.
Thanks Mike, very knowledgeable brother! You did a great job explaining everything about the Case Dozer, thanks for sharing my friend! I really enjoyed watching y’all demonstrating the Case Minotaur, that machine could do alot of different applications on the job!👍🏻👍🏻 Kirk from Louisiana, sending prayers and good vibes to you and your family throughout this winter! Stay safe, warm and healthy brother! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻🇺🇸 GOD BLESS AMERICA 🇺🇸🙏🏻🇺🇸🙏🏻🇺🇸🙏🏻🇺🇸🙏🏻🇺🇸🙏🏻🇺🇸🙏🏻🇺🇸 I still like the JD 850J,AWESOME MACHINE!👌🏻👌🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Having grown up around, operating, and working on Caterpillar, Komatsu, and John Deere equipment mainly, I have to say that I'm pretty interested in these Case machines. Seems like it is extremely simplistic and the older I get and the more stuff I work on (mechanic for a living) I appreciate simplicity. Great review sir, thank you.
Nice dozer but Don’t think case will ever be like they use to be with the Cummins motor and hand and foot controls. They were bullet proof and I still run one today without any issues or electronic crap. Appreciate the video mike!
It will be most interesting to see case perfect their product line based on your expertise! Thanks bunches and bunches and may you men continually be abundantly blessed
I noticed the electrical compartment was very dirty - especially compared to the hydraulic compartment. Seems like Case could do a little more to help seal up that compartment so all the electrical components don't get so covered in dirt. It does look like a very nice machine.
When case dozer let's operators like dp who has been in this business since a very young age case knows that dp will give an very honest opinion of the operatoration of this case dozer. This is how case can build such a good piece of equipment. He shows the good and the places that they can improve in . Awesome video. Denis from Santa Rosa CA
👍 to Case for letting you do this. As the years of farming Case tractor's an old school skidsteers to dozers all were good then, hopefully by the it looks the traditional ways are still there.
If you had said it had Jerry's approval at the start, you could have saved yourself 30 minutes. 🤣 😂 Bet when Case see this they will be chuffed, especially knowing how honest and fair your feedback is. When you look back even though you've had it for a comparatively small amount of time, you've certainly put its through its paces, whatever you have used it for its certainly coped well. 👍
I was an old school baby boomer operator in Vietnam. The Army Engineers were more interested, naturally, on operator safety so visibility took a second for design issues. The dozer looks awesome.
My CASE 450B Dozer has been bullet proof! That's my opinion on CASE! I've thoroughly enjoyed watching the 1650M work on the Dirt Perfect projects. Great video! Thanks Mike! Lee
I’m a FNG, so I have a lot to learn about dozers, but one thing I think would be nice is an auto center button for the blade. Like where you talked about inadvertently tilting the blade while looking over your shoulder, have a button that would automatically set it back to zero tilt, or zero angle. Again, that’s because I’m new and think it would speed up efficiency if you have a new operator like me. If y’all think different, let me know. I want to learn as much as possible.
My dad started on case backhoes in the early 1960s. Cat dozers. Etc. I still have an old case backhoe and trenchers. I've junked out an 850 case loader. I have multi brands of all types machines. Case dealers started pissing us off in the 1990s. Part are high. But I haven't had a case in years. Maybe it's time to take a relook? My friend bought a case mc1150e military dozer. New but old. 200 hours. Runs good. A little odd.
Good morning ,Mike. I watch your videos every morning that they're up . My favorite ones are the shop videos, my second favorite ones are with Jerry on the dozer not take away from your skill. Third favorite are you and Aron back and forth banter. I could do without the walk around on the new equipment because it's useless information to me because I'm 65 and I'm done buying equipment.
As a watcher of all your Videos I don’t miss one for sure I came disabled in 2018 and sure have benefit from watching again you do such a complete review on the equipment you have pleasure of running. Koodo’s to case and yourself letting us all watch it’s awesome I say yes to the 750 finishing dozer hope to see your sticker on it in the future MBTS seems to like it also 👍👋🇨🇦
Watching you guys use the 1650 and the 850 on the dam the other week really proved how good both are with pushing the clay around. I do agree with your comments Mike about ease of access for basically everything and Case using the KISS method especially in the cabin; I think even I could run that 1650 and I ain't no operator!!
I understand why Dozers were built as they are at the beginning... Motor into clutch into transmission into rear end and final drives. But now that motors are basically just a hydraulic pump... and with your need to see the blade I'm surprised they haven't moved to a "Cab Forward" configuration like the old steam trains that ran through the tunnels in the Sierras. Put the cab right up front where you can see things!! Really easy with EoH controls.
I can't remember the model, but my neighbor when I was a kid had a very large dozer for the time with a seat that looked down over the top of the blade. Worked excellent for dirt work and seeing grade, but one of his family members was seriously injured when pushing trees brush. That small distance between you and what you push is a huge safety advantage.
I know nothing about running a dozer, but I do have experience with running machines, in my case CNC milling and lathes machines. One thing that is really noticable when you need help is the technical support. We have have one brand that set the benchmark for service and that makes a huge difference, especially when we also have the opposite experience where a dealer just lets you swim with a 100.000 plus costing machine. I think this dozer is good based on the points you explained, but the service behind it makes the difference to be really good. Besides all that, this dozer looks really nice and that gives the operator the feel good when he steps inside the cab, they really nailed that one.
I like the footsteps all over the machine. One can gain easy access to to it. I like the electronic control on Hydraulic and the brackets on both sides of the blade for grade laser sensors and perhaps flag identity if in a larger operation.
Totally agree every brand has there things good and bad but very cool to have someone like you guys to test and show us the new good and bad fortunate to be able to see thank you sir. We run a lot of new cat stuff with the eh and cat anyways depending on size you can still have the feel and some models are not that great makes you want an older machine to get the feel back but like everything I'm sure it will get better lol thanks for the videos
Mike, twist and lock has a couple of advantages over slam lock. They are easier to repair and can take more rough handling before needing. repair. The joystick switch gripe you mentioned is spot on. The way they've got it is a thumb carpal tunnel issue. You'd be surprised how your thumb by itself can cause carpal tunnel issues long term.
Awesome review. Also heard there warrantee was the best between the 4 major brands (3 yrs 2000hr). Case must be very confident in there equipment to offer that. Time will tell.
It's not a dozer but I have the TV450B skid with EH/HYD and I love it! For it to be a skid it has some heck of push power when I am pushing dirt with the 4 in 1 bucket.
DP, you mentioned that when the blade was 1/3 of the way in, it was difficult to see the bottom of the blade (Makes sense). Since you are focused on the left side inward, could you not look at the ride side that is pushed outward and see the bottom of the blade (I know you are more focused at looking at the left side when your pushing, but you could check the right side to see if your at the right height every now and then). Too bad it did not have some kind of sensor on the sides of the blade to assist.
Only had one maintenance issue. That pesky hydraulic line leaking. Was expecting some additional details about that issue and what was learned about it. Construction equipment companies have really stepped up their game in regard to quality, usability, and relying on the users/operators for feedback on what works and what needs improvement. Imagine if automotive manufacturers applied that same model to their products.
Please if you haven't already Do a review of that slick side dump that you are now using maybe a first impression and then a final dump (sic) review after more extensive use. Please do not leave out the MSRP for the equipment you are testing, Price is not a secret and is a major component of any acquisition decision and most reviews for equipment need to include the price as tested to assist the person who makes the final decision. Thanks Ray Stormont
Hi there Good review and explanation of the pros and cons of this machine many more pros than cons on this dozer , I watched all the videos and it was impressive along side the John Deere , the only thing that would have bothered me was the 4 day down time because the dealer couldn’t come to carry out a repair , and you replied to a comment on here saying your dealer is better than most , not a good advertisement for buying a case , luckily for you it had no knock on effect but really case let themselves down with not repairing the fault , I have no preference of manufacturer as I’m now retired but back up and service can make any product regards Davy 🏴🇹🇭
Let's hope that Mrs. Perfect authorization for the check goes through and allows you to sign it.....😊 The only thing that I have seen is when you go to push hard the tracks want to spin in the dirt.😢
I learned on a 1987 case 4 way blade don’t remember model but that machine there is a Cadillac compared to the one I used. Where I’m at now they have case front end loaders and compared to the Hyundai loader we had before I like the case better because of one point you mentioned (simple) but they are durable
I saw a C&C video which suggests that the bottom roller nearest to the final drive can get worn-out with a machine popping wheelies for an extended period of time.😮
You have kept your same impartial evaluations with all the plant you have been given to operate by different manufacturers, this will keep them coming back to you for your opinions and thoughts on their plant. Keep up the goood work, Mike 👍💪 Ps. Not sure if the orange company will be offering you any machines 🤔🤫🤭
