My daughter and I were very excited to drive from Toronto to Quebec City via; "The Thousand Islands Parkway", which is a scenic parkway. An archipelago of more than 1,800 islands creates a gorgeous leafy and watery landscape complete with fairytale like castles, (Boldt and Singer Castles), via the Thousand Island International Bridge that connects U.S. to Canada, (the I-81 in New York and Highway 401 in Ontario), or one of many Boat Tours offered on both the Canadian and American side of the mighty St. Lawrence River, flowing from Lake Ontario into the Gulf of St. Lawrence. Lighthouses, Historic Landmarks, Towns and Marinas highlight this scenic route.
Literally passing by tiny Islands, that are completely covered with a house, that seems it could barely fit...all while you pass through charming historical communities like Belleville, Brockville and Kingston in South Eastern Ontario. This beautiful parkway extends approximately 40 kilometers before it rejoins Highway 401, near the community of Butternut Bay, west of Brockville.
My daughter and I loved this route and will be back to check out the whole area further on a future trip to just explore this region. For now, we have to get to Montreal for lunch at Schwartz's Deli for the perfect Montreal Smoked Sandwich. I mean...it never, ever disappoints!
After lunch and an easy drive east along the Trans Canada, we arrive at our St. Roch flat in Quebec City. Time to settle in for the next few days to take in everything Quebec City has to offer!
