It is sad to see how forgotten they all are yet there is something utterly beautiful about it too.

Yup. Not one of those people even exist in anyone's memory because the people who would remember them are also long dead. Unless famous, it's everyone's destiny to be ultimately forgotten.
@CaptainHoratioPugwash
@CaptainHoratioPugwash 2 года назад
@@staubach1979rt I'm sure some of them come up when people are tracing back their family tree, but they are likely only names on certificates and census records now. It's a shame because it's so unlikely that you would even be able to find out that an ancestor is buried here let alone find their grave. Not to mention there's no way of knowing how many of these plots are empty from re-internment or maybe even grave robbing.

Forgotten graves evoke a sense of loss, a silent narrative of lives once lived. They speak to the passage of time and the transient nature of memory. In each unmarked plot lies a story untold, a history fading away with the weathering of tombstones.

Reminds me of my History teacher's old joke: There once was a man named Odd.... Long story short everyone makes fun of Odd for doing odd stuff, etc., etc., and he didn't want his name on his tombstone, but only his birth year and death year. ....but Odd's final wish was never granted to him because a young couple was walking through the cemetery, and looking down noticed the 'name-less' headstone and said, 'Isn't that....' (And it was!)

My uncle had been renting out over 12 acres of land to a man with some cows for well over 15 years. When he died the land was sold and the new owner wanted a few trees cut and the stumps removed so he could plant for winter hay. Upon removing stumps...the men kept hitting chunks of slabs and there was writing on them. Work was stopped...a crew was brought in by the state...Bingo...a very old cemetery from the early 1800's. Today that part is fenced off with about 30 graves with their stones. My thought is...I bet there are more out there that did not have stones...just big rocks etc. ....but they left it at that.

When bought land to build our dairy farm it used to be an old county home for poor people and found an old neglected cemetery and contacted the local Boy Scouts and they came and helped us to cleaned it up and yes we kept it up for 35 years and when we sold the farm we made sure the new owners kept it up which they have and hopefully whoever buys the property next will do the same. The oldest stone was dated 1845.

I live on the outskirts of a old town. I was digging for my garden plot a few years ago, i found while digging old bottles up and some medicine, beer and some beautiful jars, i kept digging until i hit what was hard like cement, i got a big piece out and it had a design around it, in curiosity i kept digging more pieces up, then i found a sole to an old shoe and a piece of what looked like pants, it was tattered, but it definitely was clothing, i think it might have been someones resting place, so i put it all back and covered it up, it was down about 4 feet or 5... crazy, i still live here and it is right in front of my driveway when i pull in...

Enjoyed your tranquility throughout the video. Forgotten People. Sad. I walked through 2 old small cemetery's in my life. Bethpage, N.Y. Once when I was 14. That night l was dozing off & heard a cackle. I looked from my bed and there stood at what looked like a Witch/Old Lady. Colors of Purple and Black with a Shroud over her walking towards me . I bolted out of bed!! Never saw it again. Later in life at 62 my wife and I moved Upstate N. Y. to Catskill. Ventured into a well maintained small family cemetery. Didn't say No Trespassing. With utmost respect we looked at the graves. Dating back from 1700's to early 2000's. Next morning my wife says look at your arm! I still have the picture. I was bitten on my right arm overnight! Just the Upper Part of the Teeth pieced my skin. Terrible to any dental work. Teeth were spread. So no more Cemetery visits for this guy at 67!! Till l die. Going in a Draw with first wife of 31 year's together. Mid Hudson Valley is very haunted. Our house was put on our 6 acre land. Previous owner's from 1700's had 2 house's on property previously. I captured a Full Apparition on my iPad of a man dressed in Early 1800's Garb in my bathroom. Tried to Crop it. Lost picture! Crap! We had Spirts in our house. Things missing. Moved, etc Sounds. Lasted 10 years. Back to Long Island!! Hopefully nothing attaches to you. 🙏🏼 Be SAFE!! And check for Ticks! I just found out recently, April 3,2023 from one of my brothers, that both of them were toking away in that same Cemetery with friends after midnight & this screeching woman appeared out of nowhere saying this is a place of respect for the DEAD! Then vanished!! They all ran away in total fear.

Nunhead Cemetery, Linden Grove,London, SE153LP Perhaps the least known, but most attractive, of the great Victorian Cemeteries of London. Consecrated in 1840, it is one of the seven great Victorian cemeteries established in a ring around the outskirts of London. It contains examples of the magnificent monuments erected in memory of the most eminent citizens of the day, which contrast sharply with the small, simple headstones marking common, or public, burials. It’s formal avenue of towering limes and the Gothic gloom of the original Victorian planting gives way to paths which recall the country lanes of a bygone era.

My great-grandfather was buried there in 1927 - he came from Lowell, Massachusetts, worked as a merchant seaman, married an English woman and died, for some reason, in London. I was bitten on my right arm during the night. Only the Upper part of the full teeth marks broke my skin! The teeth were spread. Showing no dental work. I still have the picture in my phone. Scary Stuff! No more for me! Back on Long Island!! 😳 BTW our house had Spirts in it. We'd had a huge double wide put on 6 acre's. Things disappeared, & l took a picture of the wife & a full apparition appeared of a man in early 1800's garb. Tried to Crop picture on my iPad & deleted it! Crap!! 🙏🏼😳

Wow, imagine asking the many groups of people from years ago, assembled out there listening to the preacher say a few words about someone about to be buried and asking them what they thought the cemetery would look like in 100 years.

Classic case of nature taking over. The trees and vines don't rest.

I did a guided tour of Nunhead cematary, it is beautifal , nature has taken over a lot of it , but that what makes it unique.
