It was funny when Wagner Mora spoke about getting the role for Narcos and not knowing Spanish yet. The other actors kind of seemed to pause as if to think "oh, we see you and hear you, we just assumed you were from a spanish speaking country" and then Rami Malek is just casually like oh, yeah you speak Portuguese in Brazil.

I love how Wagner describe the psychological and physiological aspect of the roles. As actors we do have to take in the character especially on longer projects that at times its hard to separate the personalities especially while still in filming. I think the best actors are the ones that absorb the character internally that it comes out on film. It makes it more believable.

I can't help but marvel at how much has changed since you wrote this comment. Bobby ended up joining Mr. Robot and becoming a big part of that show, and Rami ended up playing Freddie Mercury and becoming just as iconic as anyone at that table. I'm a huge Mr. Robot fan and have been from the very beginning, but it's still pretty niche and not everyone knows the character. But playing Freddie make Rami a household name, and he played the role so flawlessly. I would love to see all of them sit down and catch up again now.

Wagner Is the most underrated on that table for that first season of Narcos. THR is one of the few mainstream content outlets that have included him. Native tongue is Portuguese, studied Spanish and fucking gave an immaculate performance - if he was a Brit everybody wouldn't shut up about him. Cannavale stepped up and acted his chops off too - always had it in him, great career in general and is an absolute pleasure to watch. Him and Dice Clay were effortless in Blue Jas....

I've just fallen more in love with Rami Malek. I don't usually get celebrity crushes, but I can relate to his character and now himself a lot. Mr. Robot hit close to home with me - the anxious, weirdo personality, the programming and hacking, the drug use (even down to some specifics) and mental health problems (fortunately, I don't have someone else in my head, but it's still pretty severe). Rami himself seems to hold many of the same mannerisms in person. I'm glad he has now embraced the "weirdo" typecasting, because being a little strange like him is not a bad thing and that way a lot of people are actually getting represented who weren't before. I've seen a thousand awkward nerds and geeks on TV and movies, but Elliot feels the most life like to me, despite being a pretty extreme example. Also, even though he didn't get to talk that much, it was the little things that made him stand out. Like him saying "or she" when people were talking about directors as "him", or the "never heard of it" joke that didn't quite land and how you could see he was dying inside, but then Cuba Gooding Jr. brought it back around to him at the end and they sort of bonded over it.
@turbocherry_

Old comment but just wanted to say that you summed up my thoughts and feelings exactly about Elliot and Rami. Having relatable characters (in terms of sexual orientation, culture, race or mental health issues) is SO important. Having suffered from social anxiety for most of my life doesn't feel so bad when you have someone to relate to, even though it just might be a fictional character.

It's weird how Rami Malek is the youngest and probably the less experienced guy sitting at the table, but yet he's the most polite and articulate of them all... I mean, while everyone's screaming and talking upon each other, he instead is really careful about avoiding to interrupt somebody else and so nice towards everyone... I really appreciate his attitude. Moreover he's an incredibly talented actor and he looks really charming and attractive in a cool way. I reckon he's gonna take on the world some day

I don't understand how THR for every, single, freaking women's roundtable have the moderators make it an obvious point to steer the conversation towards diversity/sexism and issues facing women in hollywood, particularly in producing/directing roles, but in the first 5 minutes of this talk when every actor is consistently referring to directors as "he"/"guy" (except for the godsend that is Rami Malek) just let it slide and not even come back with a follow up response to further question this group of actors on their experiences or their thoughts on women directing?? This completely baffles me! THR if you really want to champion a discussion for diversity then you need to apply the same level of questioning to ALL roundtable guests regardless of gender. Don't obviously force your female roundtables into being about craft/career PLUS gender/sexism issues while not even attempting to create the smallest opening for a discussion of changing landscape of gender in hollywood during the male roundtables. If you aren't genuinely trying to spark real conversations about diversity then just allow the women roundtables to be focused simply on their craft, experiences and stories in the same way as you allow the men to talk during their tables.

Cuba's ego and name dropping session is painful to listen to. Bragging doesn't put people at ease, it highlights your own insecurities. In these kinds of forced conversations you should compliment other people and be self-deprecating like a lot of the other guys around the table. It helps everyone to relax.

Yeah and what's crazy is he actually got A LOT worse towards the end. The last 15 minutes or so he wouldn't stop interrupting people with some lame joke and taking every chance to name drop another high profile director he's worked with or passed on. I forgot the exact time but you can even see Wagner Moura put his head down like he's trying to hide an eye roll. He wasn't having any of it and you could definitely see it on his face, pretty funny.
@amenophisiv6904
@amenophisiv6904 8 лет назад
I didn't see any of that and they all seemed pretty relaxed to me, as much as you could be in a setting like this. She was asking questions and they just had a discussion and talked about their experiences. She was asking Cuba about "actors jail" and how it related to his oscar, so it would make sense to talk about his work in those years and who he worked with during and after. Everyone drops the names of the people they worked with, its a nice thing to do. Especially when they are praising these guys in front of other actors and in a public forum, just go check out the women or other roundtables. Sometimes they share the same people with other actors which widens the conversation at times. Like, this isn't some couch were they sit and just shit on themselves and kiss each others asses. This is about the industry they are working in. They aren't bragging, they are just share the experience and give some insight, having a laugh here and their. Cuba is just a bit louder, you don't like it, thats it. Why not talk about the stories and shit you liked out of the 55 min instead of picking and sharing the shit you perceived in a negative way.
