This is my favorite roundtable. The actresses get along great and that allowed them to completely relax and let us see them like they really are. Plus, the fact that they are so different yet compatible allow the interview to be both fun and interesting.
@@rrrusty49 Yep.. and the scraping noise amplified by the poor, echoing acoustics of the room and/or poor recording equipment. Thankfully, THR improved their production mechanics after this early-on actress roundtable.
Helena Bonham Carter has taught me a lot in life. She's basically saying " Be yourself" don't pretend to be the person you aren't that's not what life is. You go on and have fun! She is the whole reason why I want to start acting. She means the world to me. I understand other people say this too but I really, really mean it from the heart. like nobody understands
I really wish they would just pose a question and then let everyone share, instead of going off on a tangent with one actor. It's about the actors, not the interviewers.
I just love how every time Helena speaks thing start to turn chaotic. I just think she is sooo brilliant. It was nice to see a open and honest discussion amongst genuinely talented actors with a great deal of experience of the industry. I love how when even these level headed, intelligent ladies start to get carried away talking about all the awards hoopla and expectations of dressing up and always having to look a certain way & then HBC just states the obvious which is.. well... just don't. Sh
Budji Tresvalles I really enjoy the actors round tables too but the actresses are just that little bit more interesting and I'm not too sure why. I think it may have to do with he fact that females in the business look out for each other as they know its hard to make it as a woman, so there is an immediate comfort felt when a group of them get together, hence the more deep, more personal conversations.
Lewis Bavin You make a good point. On the other hand, maybe the guys this season just weren't the creme of the crop. Imo I think they just didn't have chemistry. They all had completely different personalities, and way too much variance in film experience. Ruffalo was awesome tho
Not only are each and everyone of them an amazing talent, but to have them all at one time? This is just incredible. It was a joy to watch. It was very relaxed and real. Thank you for this. It is a treasure.
I just love helena - she's so friendly and genuine :) She seems really lovely and she clearly isn't bothered by what people think which is really inspirational :) Love nicoles laid back attitude and she seems really nice too and I LOVE her accent!! :) Then Amy seems equally lovely! :) In short a lovely bunch of people :)
I remember Bradley Cooper say once that being an actor is the most humbling thing because it really does humble you. It is extremely difficult to be a successful actor.
Very insightful; thanks THR, I enjoyed that very much indeed. In addition, it’s nice to see actresses getting on so well; as the ‘media’ always makes out that they don’t get on, in movies etc a la Bette Davis and Joan Crawford. Times have changed since then, so it’s really nice to finally see actresses together and talking about their profession, but having a nice time too. I’d really like to see more actresses discussing things like this.
Boys Don't Cry (her first film, for which she won her first Oscar) has got to be one of the best films of all time. Million Dollar Baby is also very good if you want an intense drama, or PS I Love You for a slightly lighter, funnier side. Hillary is in my opinion one of today's best actresses :)
ive just discovered these round tables, theyre great! actresses/actors discussing their work, they all seem so much more relaxed and natural as opposed to when they are all dressed up on a red carpet or letterman or something like that.
Many good actresses come from other fields like singing. But great directors, great actors, etc see the world differently. Great directors usually had a camera in their hands when they were kids, they learned how to tell a story, they learned to edit in their mind and what it takes to keep a narrative going, etc. Many great actors are shy- they sit on the side line observing people. Many great entertainers used to sing and dance for their families as children.
anyone else notice that when they were talking about how much time they have left and how being forty is so different from being twenty, every one under forty at that time just kinda laughed and the ones who had already hit forty looked sorta somber? (around 20 mins in)
Such a wonderful grouping of talent. The relaxed nature and easy exchange between these women is so enjoyable and entertaining. It would be nice if the interviewers could 'up their game' a bit and come up with better questions. It's as if they use the same template, repeatedly, for different sessions. If only they were half as creative as the people they interview!
Great discussion, I was pleasantly surprised to see how much content was about the art of acting in in film rather than other typical interview banter, haha.
Wonderful, so much chemistry between them all loved how they put flowers and wine glasses on the table in contrast to the tall glasses for the men, so ridiculous. haha
I met Hilary Swank once, and she was very bubbly and kinda dorky, and she doesn’t come across like that at all in things like this. I’m not saying she isn’t likeable in interviews, but it’s almost like she isn’t comfortable being herself in them. She tries to fit in. She seems kinda snobbish and obnoxious in interviews, but that’s not how she is in person.
It's funny seeing Amy Adams and Hilary Swank next to each other after both have played Amelia Earheart. Amy Adams was the best thing about the "Night at the Museum" sequel for playing an exaggerated comedic version of that character Hilary Swank portrayed seriously.
Is anyone really surprised that Helena is actually dressed like a normal person for once? I LOVE that woman to death, but I find it a bit shocking.. lol This was a great interview! It was very enlightening ^.^
"I had to keep schtum" (Helena) Omg, I never heard that word in english before!! :D Amazing! I'ts german. I'm german and dying of laughter :D It sounds soooo cute und unusual!! :D
