My wife was so sad and angry with me telling me I damaged the machine, after swathing your video, actually the tread tension was at 0. Now it is running like water. Thank you Ma'am,
Love the visual examples and the quick presentation. A lot of videos on the topic come with 10 minute preambles, but you get right to the point! Thanks so much for the great tips!
This literally blew my mind. I taught myself to sew and I’ve had this problem for so long it’s so frustrating. Well.... I’ve had my tension on ZERO! THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP!!! 💗
I don't sew and I was struggling to sew a hem and I didn't even know about the damn tension, I put it on 4 and boom off to the races. I was scouring the internet for the answer and you had it thanks
Wow! I've been sewing (off & on) for 49 years and never heard such a wonderfully clear explanation of what adjusting the tension does. Thank you so much! I just worked on a project last night, and it's been at least 7 years since I've had the sewing machine out and the thread tension for the fabric I'm using is obviously off. Now I know which way to adjust it without guessing. 🙂
She’s so calming. I just had a melt down because I’m working on fursuits and it was looking so nice but the back was terrible. This helped a lot!!! ❤️❤️
I discovered this channel while searching for how to stich a skirt..omg your voice makes me to watch more and more videos done by you..such a soothing and calming voice you have.. Your way of explanation and videographer takes to the next level. kindly do more and more vidoes.. Love from India🇮🇳
Thank you so very much for this video. You've helped me realize how the tension was not high enough on my machine for the fabric I use when I get the "bird's nest" underneath. I always thought it was because the tension was TOO high. Of course, I know how every kind of fabric needs a different tension selection - I was just wondering how and why I kept getting those "bird's nests" when I ever sew. Have put my machine aside for a long, LONG time because I didn't think I'd ever find out how to "fix" that problem. Now I know!!! I sincerely THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH for this video!!!
Thank you. I was having a really rough morning struggling with tension and was spiraling WAY out of proportion. Your video and kindness sincerely turned my day around and has left me feeling much more equipped to handle this part of the sewing process.
LADY!!!! ui saved my sewinbg machines life before i throw it to the cliff!!!!!!! i watched 11982728364736464 tutorials and all i have to do is copy ur 4 and a half settings and it worked perfect!!! thank uuuu happy new year!!!
my goodness... i had to regroup myself because i was so frustrated when this happened to me. thank you for posting this video. ps. i really like how you talked... so calm and clear.
Wow! Thank you so much. I’m very inexperienced when it comes to sewing and I couldn’t figure out why I was getting so much looping in the back. My tension was on 0-1. A million thank you’s!!!!!
Finally, a video that helped me fix the issue I have had for months, I was going to throw my machine out. Thank you so much for how you explained everything
Oh my. Yhank you so much. 4 year old video. Saving my hope in sewing with a machine! In the middle of my quilt and THANK YOU! I really thought id have to finish it all by hand. (Which i love, but wanted it to be done in a month or so.)
❤🎉 my machine is ages old and a different model and i have been struggling with tension for some time. This has saved the day for me. THANK YOU SO MUCH! ❤
Thank you soooo much for this clarification .... it was driving me crazy...and no one to clear this mess so clearly without holding back info....really appreciate this 🙏🏻⚘️
I had to stop one of my dress projects yesterday because I couldn't figure out why the bottom stitch was so loose. thank you for this video, it's exactly what I needed :)
thank you -- i'm so frustrated with the thread breaking........knew it was the tension that i don't do properly. will try your suggestion of doing swatches, if the thread doesn't break!!! thank you again
I do a lot of sewing believe it or not to make things for me to travel the outback of Australia and I had some trouble with tension but you have fixed that for me, thank you. You have a very soothing voice.
VERY helpful!! thank you. every other tutorial made it sound like adjusting the tension on the bobbin was SEPARATE from the upper stitch NOW I know what's going on. excellent video.
Thank you Paige, I am a newbie to sewing and I ran into this very frustrating problem and I thought the machine was faulty,it is lovely Brother sewing machine !
I have been trying to correct my tension for days now and I think I'm going to have to take my machine in! No matter what ension number I put it at the bobbin thread stays straight and it looks like just a line of thread, there is no "stitches" on the backside of the fabric! It's so frustrating
Thank you so much…I have had a sewing machine for years… but I have not sewn anything lately and I am sewing a mostly polyester stretch fabric… you really helped me today…thanks again
Thank you, I've been having tension problems in my machine for the last 2-3 years and it makes me incredibly mad to the point.. that i've probably made two things in 3 yrs. I had to learn how to sew on my own and my frustration about tension is awful. I dont know why i didnt think to test each setting. it was just incredibly frustrating and difficult to deal with .. thanks for explaining it in a simple easy way!
Thank you great lady!!!! You saved my life. With out you I would have been died!!! 💕💕💕💕 I will love you for the rest of my life. I think you were destined to cross faiths!!!
Oh my goodness thank you so much I was going crazy trying to figure out how to fix my birdsnest issue. I reread my manual a couple of times but it just wasn't clicking until you explained it. Thank you thank you thank you❤
I have been sewing for a few years, just little things like cushion covers and plain placemats... i have NEVER Understood tension for some reason. It'salways been a guessing game.. I get it now. Thank you!
I was seriously about to throw my machine away since I didn't think it can handle denim. Going to grab my sewing maxing from the back of my closet and "re-thread and try again; it doesn't take that long"
Omg you saved me . I have a second hand sewing machine. And i was ready to start crying because it’s help me do lots of mask. And I just couldn’t find the problem. Thanks
Thank you I brought a limited edition brother machine went out the window I try the tension my cotton keeps coming out of its needle happy to subscribe x
I totally couldn’t focus because of the calming voice and beautiful lady .. had to watch the video twice to actually get it but then i was too relaxed to sew
Thank you dear. I'm pretty good at anything I try....this was killing me. I learned more in these minutes than I had ever known before. Now i know why I'm having trouble with a nice even stitch. I'm doing a boat top for my fishing boat and so far you wouldn't believe how happy I am with it. No pro but guudnuf.....hehe. You made it very easy to figure out some things. I have a brother walking foot machine and it's plenty for me but I got it on a deal. Saved enough from my first job to pay for the machine $300 with accessories $400). It's kind of fun to me. But the names MY lovely wife is throwing at me (hey...look at the biker sewing....hehe) are a tough pill to swallow....kiddin
Oh wow! Thank you this helped me out so much. 🥰 i kept thinking my needle was wrong but i followed your tension settings and it sorted it out perfectly! 🤘🏻
So my Brother PQS1500 was sewing beautifully and then it wasn’t! The bobbin thread was coming to the top, and so I adjusted things and then the top thread was going to the bottom. I was getting more and more frustrated by the minute! I finally got it almost perfect. I may, however, to ahead and put different color threads in the top and bobbin and see what happens. I’ve cleaned and oiled the machine and rethreaded so we’ll see. Thank you f9or your great video!
My thread only bunches up under the fabric at the beginning or at the end of a seam when I use the reverse. No problem with the straight line. Any suggestions? Thank you.
At the beginning of a seam it can help to hold the tails of thread as you stitch the first few stitches. For reverse bunching, I'm not sure of the issue. Check your manual for specifics of your machine.
When I’m using straight stitches I put the tension to 9, the highest, I, using black for the top and orange on the bottom on magenta fabric, the bottom I still see black, and it’s not so tight still. What should I do?
Thank you and God Bless you! I have screwed up both the needle and bobbin tension and thanks to your video and one by ABC Sewing Machines Inc, it's fixed xx
THIS is my biggest problem & you're right you just want to stop throw it all out and forget about it! Thank you for this video, I'm glad to know it isn't just me. Swatch, swatch, swatch. TFS!
I am exhausted... Its 4 am and I'm sitting here crying my eyes out what on earth... why is this so hard... is button thread different? what am I doing wrong??
I know it can be so frustrating. You will figure this out and it will be okay. --- Are you using all purpose thread or button thread? Get some regular, all purpose thread, plain quilting cotton, rethread your machine according to the manual. Watch my threading video too. Make sure both the top and bobbin thread are pulled behind the presser foot before you begin sewing. When the foot is lowered and you are ready to begin sewing, hold the two threads until you have done 2 or 3 stitches. Breathe, take it slow, take a little break when you need it.
I see you posted 3 years ago so I hope you figured it all out but I wanted to share a tip that helped me. I was having a terrible time with my tension on a very cheap Brother. What I finally figured out was that using cheap thread magnified my tension issues. So I began to buy Aurofil and that really helped. Cleaning the tension discs also helped.
Why would my thread tension suddenly be off when I allowed my sister to borrow my machine? Does anyone know? Is it like a unspoken rule to never let anyone use your sewing machine or something?
Hi Kaela, your sewing machine is like your car, you should never let anyone borrow it. I have done on two occasions and both times when it was returned to me, I needed to send it in to get fixed and both times no one mentioned any problems, as though they knew they'd damaged it. This was also family members. So yes, the unspoken rule is definitely don't let anyone borrow your sewing machine. They will never treat it with the respect that you do and it will end up costing you money :(
