There are many ways to restore or clean up threads when they are damaged, however this tool allows you to service dozens of sizes both metric and standard! I like dies but who wants to carry a few sets around?!

I was amazed that a mostly plastic tool could chase the valleys of the thread. I was expecting it to fail and when I saw you put the nut on I was very sceptical it would work. You proved me wrong !.

Hi Tony- The yellow covers are plastic but the rest of the tool is some type of cast metal. They make tools like this in machined enclosures but they are very expensive. This is just right for occasional use and to get out of a jam. 😃👍

Nice Job! The instructions actually do indicate "When using or stocking ThreadMate, keep all moving parts oiled".

Fantastic, never seen one. Yeah you can't add material when it's gone from smashing. This tool should fix stripped threads also.. Great video as always..

I just received mine in the mail. doesn't really come with instructions. luckily I found your video and now know the blades are directional. I figured you could turn left and right like a normal tap and die. thank you

I guess if you consider how expensive traditional tap and die sets cost $30, doesn't sound too bad as a thread chaser. Thanks, I never heard of this tool. Pretty handy.

You know Wyatt I can't see spending $10 for a soda and popcorn at the movies but I have no problem dropping $20 on a tool I might only use once or twice in a pinch... Lol. 😃👍

I understand that! I spend 1 hour looking for tools and 5 minutes fixing something.

Well, you've just shown it operating but I can't help scratching my chin? Have to see how it holds up. Question, If you had a bent bolt, would it be possible to straighten it with a hammer, and then repair the damage you'd do, with this gadget?

Hi Keith! I too was really amazed that this worked as well as it does! It's really good for certain applications like a stud of a vehicle or something you can't remove and replace! To answer your question, I have found that most times when a bolt is bent more then 20 degrees or so and re-straightened it becomes brittle, I think it has to do with the special heat treating they go thru. Once the bolt is brittle it is prone to break on you at the worst time! Now it the bolt was only bent maybe 5 degrees (slight bend) then you may avoid the breakage and this tool would clean up and re-allign the threads nicely! Thanks very much!!!

Tool is made for brass only? I’d like to see it used on a grade 5 bolt.

Having a steering shaft with damaged threads. I assume the shaft is made with hardened steel. Is this tool durable enough to repair shaft threads?

My tests say no way -please refer to my post. I also put a Lang chaser on my stainless steel test bolt, to no avail. I''d try a thread file first, and a die (aggressive cut) as a last resort.

Always used a thread file. Maybe this could be an alternative for my tool box.

Hi Roberto! This would be a great alternative for when the bolt or stud is attached and hard to get to! Thanks!!!!!!!

You really think it would work on a hardened bolt like a car tire stud?🤔
@ScoutCrafter

You know Bill, the teeth are hardened, I have found that it's much easier to straighten out buggered threads then cut new ones! You basically are just unfolding the threads.. =D

Johnny bolt, wonder how it got that name!!

With all due respect, how can you assert that this would be good on wheel studs when you only tested it on brass? I ran the same test on stainless and it failed, and that is more like a grade 5. Wheel studs are grade 8 or higher - this thing won''t even scratch that. Only a die was able to fix the threads in my case, though a more skilled person might have succeeded with a thread file. You should have risked dulling your blade a little and run a thorough test -many will be misled.

Used this on 2 wheel studs on a 1970 F100 (5th generation). They were in bad shape and this was a last resort before replacing the studs. Worked great and that was 5 years ago.
