that bit got me, i come from this background and my mom went through hell to get us where we are, but as i write this message from a safe country with easy accessibility to food it burns my soul that it can be the same for them but us as humans (mainly people of power) practically choose for it not to be. There's enough food to waste but apparently not enough to feed...people have so much money they can't comprehend spending, using countries like these for cheap labour and maximising profits whilst someones questioning if life's worth living if they don't eat by tuesday, the sad product of colonialism.

I don't like to speak for others but if I had to guess, he means that the colonizers had a game plan to make Haiti work despite how fked up they where, but when they left all that was left was a bunch of former slaves who rightly earned there freedom but had no idea how to make a proper civilization work, if they had won a revolution and instead kept the framework then at the very least they would have had a functioning society that could have worked and they could have slowly inherited and phased out the colonial mentality as other former colonies did....education was the deciding factor and they unknowingly threw it away because of how bad they wanted to make that country thiers alone....don't blame em but it's the sad truth it seems

I was there for three days in 2017. Port-au-Prince was complete disaster, however I did manage to sleep in the bushes outside the airport safely and walk around the airport side of town. I tried walking north east and hitching rides, managed to get 2-3 on mini buses then an English speaking local that I talked to and passed picked me up and said stay at his as it was getting late evening. We went to some shanty backstreets and got some food. I went back out at night and had some beers and the guy I was with was introducing me to everyone. It got quite overwhelming. The next day he talked to a bus driver and I managed to get a free ride to cap-haitien via the same route you went. I then took some photos of people jumping into the polluted river from the bridge. After that I went straight to border by minibus to get out of there as it felt dodgy AF. The border closed at 9pm and I had to wait until the next day to get out, loads of locals crossing border and climbing over closed gates. That was all before the kidnappings started...very dicey place indeed!!!
