So much history in this area. I lived in Northern Delaware for 20 years and visited Brandywine. It was beautiful. My mother’s family came with William Penn and received a land grant in Chester County. Cloud family. Amazing to trace the family history from the Three Lower Counties of PA south to South Carolina (Chester). I always felt there was a reason for going from Chester to Chester.

As a member of ABT, I am happy we are conserving this battlefield. My ancestor, Capt John "Jack" Ashby, leading the 3rd. Virginia Militia got wounded when he went to help an officer who got shot off his horse. Turned out to be Lafayette.

Congrats. I think Proctor is John Proctor of Westmoreland Co. Pa.

Brandywine is without a doubt the most in dire need of preservation help. The tracts of land are still there, but developers are trying their hardest to blight the landscape with cookie cutter housing developments. They were thwarted recently when trying to encroach on the battlefield (look up Crebilly Farm), but they are always lurking. The point is, there is a lot to save on Brandywine but it is STILL there, and with due diligence of groups like the ABT, the Chadds Ford Historical Society, the Brandywine Conservancy, and others, the enormous battlefield (10 sq miles of action) can finally get its due respect! 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

@AmericanBattlefieldTrust also shout out to the NC Wyeth museum. Haven't been there in along time, but if I recall correctly it sits on/next to a good piece of the battlefield. Wyeth is a patriot in his own way as a great American painter, who happened to created some of the most recognizable works depicting Washington in a non-portrait setting.

I grew up in Delaware County. I was always disappointed when I visited the "battlefield" park and found it was just two houses and an ice cellar on about 10 acres. As much land as we can claw back would be blessing.

Love to see the ABTrust doing more for Revolutionary War battlefields. It's a 23 to 1 match - - how could you not donate?! I just saved almost 1/2 acre with my donation because of this match.

First battlefield I visited when I was a kid, with my mother and sister. Walking along and stumbling on the cell in the ground, with a mannequin in it, scared me to death, crazy it's been 45 years ago LoL

So glad they are looking at Newtown, would love to see someone do something with the Groveland Ambuscade, where Boyd and Parker’s were captured during the Sullivan campaign. Most of the historic markers were destroyed in a storm so very little there to let people know.

If you haven't been to Groveland Ambuscade Park in the past couple of years, go have a look-see. The pavilion is finished, and there's a new interpretive sign. There have been significant changes recently.

I live in Wilmington (right on the Brandywine) and it is difficult to take in the battle because it’s so spread out.

You know what? Eff the Cincinnati. I’m a descendant of Benedict Arnold and they won’t let me join. He was a brilliant soldier, the siege of Montreal, the Battle of Valcouer, and especially at Saratoga where he all but lost his leg. That’s worth something.

Seriously? That’s absurd, God forgives but not the Cincinnati….
