Sorry for the incorrect spelling (AND pronunciation) of "Kinlock Falls"! I can't edit the video now that it is posted, so I can't correct that. 😢 Guess I'll have to go back and record a new video there!!

Would you be able to suggest a good hiking shoe? I thought I had decent shoes but I did a hike to Caney Creek falls a while back and ended up having a sore heel for a few months after the hike. I can only assume it had something to do with my shoes. I'm not new to hiking. I'm just new to hiking while old. I used to hike a lot in my teens and 20s but hiked considerably less while my kids were growing up and now that they're out of the house my wife and I are trying to get back into it. My feet have protested though.

I feel for you! In the last year I have suffered from a severe bout of planter fasciitis that caused me to miss much of the winter hiking season! I've tried trail runners and am not a big fan. At my age and weight, I need the support of full-on hiking boots, so I live with their weight. Getting ones that fit just perfectly takes time and patience but is well worth the effort. I recommend going to REI or some other good store and spending an afternoon (literally) trying everything and talking with their shoe people. It's worth the effort. Also, don't forget your socks. I ALWAYS wear silk or synthetic thin liner socks (lately with separate toes in them which helps prevent blisters between my toes--a common problem for me) and thick wool outers (even in the heat of summer) to cushion and wick away sweat . Good boots aren't complete without good socks to go with them.

Great video. Thanks for all of the information. We are heading up that way next week. Could you share what time of day you were at each waterfall? I will be trying to do some photography at several falls in Bankhead over a couple of days, and planning for the lighting is very important to me. Thanks.

We are thinking about doing Caney and klinlock this Saturday. Did y’all have any issues with your drone gps or loosing signal? I always take my mavic mini. Have had some issues on other trails in Bankhead. Thanks!
@SoutheasternFrontiers
@SoutheasternFrontiers 2 года назад
No. We didn't have any issues with our Mavic Air. At least none beyond the usual problems of getting a good GPS signal when in the bottom of canyons. But if we found an open area with a good view of the sky, then it had no issues.

Hey Joe, I lead a small group of Huntsville hikers on Sunday afternoons. Would love to connect with you sometime and join you on a hike if possible.

where is the national forest sign located and is there a visitors center?
@SoutheasternFrontiers
@SoutheasternFrontiers 3 года назад
The Bankhead National Forest signs can be seen along Highway 33 (which runs north-south through the forest). There is no "visitor center" per se, but there is a ranger station located in Haleyville: goo.gl/maps/YdipXuHDTLGwanJk6

We went to Coal Mine and Holmes yesterday but never found the trails. We found where they should be but yea. I had newbies with me too. We went to Sougahoagdee instead 🤍

I'm sorry you couldn't find them. I maybe should create some better maps on how to locate the trails for them. Glad you got to see Sougahoagdee though! It's another amazing Bankhead waterfall (if a bit harder to get to). Thanks for letting me know! 👍
