It's hard to express the difficulty that resides in keeping a car looking factory while completely changing it. It's why you see so many car with wide paneling on them, standard ls/jz swap, etc. This is impressive. The kid even knows it a little too much, lol.
As soon as he said the calipers were painted Estoril Blue, I knew the owner was a bmw NERD. All caps. This is OEM++++ As a fellow bmw nerd, I approve. Maybe would have chosen techno violet calipers. But that's IT. Build is beautiful. The End.
That is the most perfectous thing I have ever seen in this whole world. My ocd has completely and fully been put into submission. Wow .. working on these cars is a dream job for me .. here's to wishing and dreaming as I am unemployed.
thanks Larry .. your an inspiration bro .. I am a motor enthusiast, as well as an artist, so seeing you make a career out of doing both of my personal passions is something I can only aspire to!
Still not convinced that this isn't the car from the vaults he's talking about. Nice disguise. Dope ass ride, and as a M-thusiast: They should have made the 1 M-Series just like that.
I just got an LMB e82 and I always admired the wide body look but the 1M is so expensive these days. I think this build is giving me dangerous ideas...
Bruh, you can bolt M3 mechanicals straight onto the 1 series. They specifically made it that way, plus you could actually get a 1 series M sport with the 4L V8 in the EU. This car is sick and has been my dream project for a minute, but that's because it is so easy to do yet a true European muscle car. Most of the stuff done here is almost plug 'n' play/bolt in conversions 🤷
Lot of knowledge from this guy so respect to him on that. ALOTTTT of people with crazy builds these days barely know shit about their cars. Not hating but if you do these things to cars i dont see why you wouldnt want to know in detail what was done. Even though you cant do it it would make sense to want to know. Anyways sick build and great video man. RU-vid car world needs more of this and less of "should i get a new exhuast on my 458?!"
Who cares bro as long as they enjoying what they build. Some people love to know every detail of everything and some don’t they just want something nice and fast.
I really enjoy this car, and I completely agree that this is what a 1M should be. Props to the owner, it's what I would have built. With that said, you guys took about 10 minutes to say: "It's a 135i chassis with 1m fenders and bumpers. It's got e92 M3 subframes, drivetrain, suspension and brakes". While this is not 100% bolt-in, this is not a ferrari drivetrain into a BMW folks. Also, please stop saying the v8 has anything to do with formula 1. The v10 that its based on had some marketing hype about formula 1 inspired tech (it has none).
It has no F1 inspired tech? Yeah you are a dumbass. The S65 is pretty much a S85 with 2 cylinders cut off. It has individual throttle bodies (there is your F1 tech right inspired there), a 12:1 compression ratio, ionic current knock sensing, revs to 8400rpm, and is widely used in racing applications. Sure it might not be used in F1 cars, but there is plenty of F1 tech in this engine. It's not your typical domestic V8. Even the V8 in the GT350 can't compare to this. This is the one V8 that Ferrari owners can respect. You should as well.
GrayFox370 I own an e92 m3, and I bought it specifically because of the engine. Small displacement, ITB's and an 8600 rev limiter (tuned) are exactly why I wanted it. Calling any of that "F1 technology" is delusional, sorry.
ive said it to myself so many times before ... LARRY you just find the most beautiful and unique cars that i love to see. Today i clicked on the post and had to comment. i LOVE your taste in cars and wish i could see everything you see !!!!
Just saw a swapped 1M on the weekend here in Sydney. Blacked out, engine bay was unbelievably crisp with carbon trims, wide body kit and it was absolutely JIZZ. I would take this build over any other M car. All day, any day.
So, basically it's a 135i made to look like a 1M and go like an M3 I love it 😍 Soo who do I have to contact to have one of these built and what's it gonna cost? 🤣
This is the cleanest build I’ve ever seen so far, I reckon even by the end of 2020, you can’t still have some build clean as this ! This thing is crystal clean build AF!
It was awesome spending time with you guys and showing you around! Catch us at the Daytona 24 Hours! Too cold for shorts though...we'll be wearing pants. #skysoutthighsout #notwhenitscold
Maaaaan. I really like hoonigan and all but. There is VERY little difference between the weight of the e92 and the 1m. You would think otherwise looking at them, but it's true. Get it down to 2800-2900 pounds, then I'll understand
At the absolute most, they saved less than 200 pounds which is the difference between a passenger or driving solo. The car is amazing and a master class on clean swaps. However, they're fooling themselves if they think it's a night and day as they make it sound. For reference, the curb weight of the E87 1M is 3,296lbs (no sunroof) vs 3,483lbs for the manual E92.
I see dude in this car all the time .. everytime I pass by miami excutive airport or in Kendall or even windwood I'll see him ... I have a 328i putting out 420hp only things I changed on it was the diff gearing so she doesnt blow my trans .. deleted the air box .. and programmed the ECU to throw more fuel with the new air filter I have installed .. and installed bigger fuel injectors ..
This is perfect. I am not sure San Marino is "period correct" though, since that colour was offered for the newer platform f-series. What an awesome build, wow
The original 6-cylinder N54/55 engine of the 1M was deemed superior to the S65 for later M3 and M4 car by BMW, so it seems very strange to replace it the heavier, less efficient and less powerful V8 made obsolete by BMW. It does sound sweet though.
I love how BM guys are swapping the old stuff in to replace the newer power plants. Wasn't so long ago BMW made some of the best sounding, high revving screamers in the business...now days even though the engines make good power they sound so dull...obviously emissions and all that but it's good to see projects like this still happening.
Great alternative for people who want 1Ms. Only concern is how much does it affect BMWs legendary 50-50 balance? Alot of the V8 seems to be sitting over the front axle
So much lighter! 100kg to me isn't massive. A good saving yes. But having a tin roof with a sub roof compared to the Carbon E92 roof is a step back for handling. Very good project and the finish is superb.
This and the E30 m3 with e46 m3 swap that it's also on the cannel are some of my all time favourite bmw's. I love when the builds are subtle but you know there's something really special about them.
I am interested to know what the weight difference between two engines is and how they balanced it out on the suspension and chassis department. Stellar job. Big respect.
With the N54 having the turbo and turbo support systems, I would assume the weight is fairly similar. Plus, the V8 will tuck that weight back in the chassis a bit better than the inline 6. I wouldn't be surprised if they were within 30 pounds of each other.
