If you ‘got it right every time’ that still won’t help. The scammer can still switch the card before turning it over, or another one of their team will bet on a different card and they ‘will have to take the larger bet’. These scammers do this every day and a smart team have planned for the worst case scenario. The best thing you can do is steer well clear.

I've seen this done in NY. Also, even though Steven talked about others being part of the team, you need to know that it's usually not just the people that win that are part of the team. There are also lookouts and pickpockets that can be part of the team. So even if you don't play, if you stop to watch, be VERY careful.

If they think you know what is going on, they might approach you (I've had this happen). I didn't feel threatened (but I'm also a big guy), but probably should have. It was more of a, "Hey, you look like you know what's going on, don't ruin it for us and we won't have a problem with each other."

yes, the joker slides unto the queen card and falls onto the table
@ThisHandleFeatureIsStupid
@ThisHandleFeatureIsStupid 2 года назад
The main move is to release the top card instead of the bottom card being shown. When he has the queen visible, there's a joker on top of it. He then *appears* to slam the queen down, but is actually dropping a joker (the top card) and keeping the queen in his hand. If you take this information back into the video, you'll be able to see the basics of the scam at work. But don't go thinking you know how to beat the game now...there are MANY more moves that can be employed to ensure profit for the scammers. Just stay away - no exceptions!

You are not supposed to know because he is a professional magician, whose abilities are far above those 3-card monte scamsters. Pros never reveal the secret to their high-end tricks. Apparently, he felt confident enough to do this trick on camera knowing that the secret won't be revealed, even if the video is played back in slow motion.

I've seen different people do this 3-card monte scam more than a dozen times in major cities. The one time that an actual player spotted the right card, when the scammer started reaching for his wallet to pay the player, a person in the crowd - who was working with the scammer, of course - loudly shouted, "Police. We gotta run!" The scammer ran off immediately, even leaving behind the cheap wooden table and the three cards. Of course, there wasn't actually any police officers around - that was just their way of literally running away so they don't have to pay out.

I saw this exact same thing when I worked in New York City in the 1980s. They had the bent card and they had schills too. A guy who worked at my company lost three $20 bets in less than a minute. The cool thing was it was on a narrow street and they had guys stationed at each end of the block. When a policeman would come around that street, those guys would yell something in Spanish, and poof, the cardboard card stand was gone in an instant. If you didn't know better, your $20 was lost in a second. And lots of people didn't know better.

@@stevenbridges The people who are in on it are as evil as the guy at the front. What you're doing isn't evil because you aren't scamming people but I would be fine with a group of thirty people showing up, watching to see who is in on it, staying there until it breaks up, and five of them each following a scammer and cornering them and demanding the money back. These are evil people. I think scammers deserve extremely harsh punishment, trading on people's innocent trust as they do. In their mind that makes the mark deserve being scammed. In my mind their conduct makes them deserve treatment I won't write here but it wouldn't always be something that would allow a fresh start. Ever.

My buddy MUCH wiser than me (later he told me) tapped me on the shoulder and said "let's go". I won five rounds. Well it's late at night and and for whatever reason I headed his advice and we headed back home the long way on public street. If I had won anymore we wouldn't have made it home. He saw the men standing by that weren't interested in the game at all but followed us. He was street wise and I was just a dumb kid from a small town focused on winning "free" money. I saw some scammers pulling this one near Checkpoint Charlie in Berlin. I stood there pointing and screaming "Scammers! This is a scam!" until they packed it in.

The guy is seriously skilled and charismatic. I know this is an old comment. But this same guy has become a card counter and produces excellent hidden camera blackjack videos now about trying to beat the casino. Highly recommend checking it out.

Same thing happened with me in italy.there were some guys with balls and cups.they mixed the cups and stuff and people always lost,unless some other guys won...my friend told me that he thinks that when you choose a cup,nothing will be there.the dealer will always have the ball in his hand.when he picks up the "right" cup,he drops the ball out of his hand,under the cup,in a way you cant see... And boom.you lost all the money...

I was wondering when you'd get to the people in on it. That's a big part of the scam. I use to watch a team at Fisherman's Wharf in San Francisco. They'd have people winning big as a way to attract suckers. They also had a guy at each end of the block watching out for the police and a runner or two. They set the game up on cardboard boxes and when the alert came, they just knocked everything over and walk away. Seen this for decades in the USA, coast to coast, but I've never seen it done in London.

I remember seeing the Romanians doing this on the exact bridge in 2010. It was obvious fellow Romanians were in on the scam but my gf at the time who's a lawyer wanted to play. Funny how one can be so smart but not see a scam in front of them.

I saw this happening out in vegas years ago. I was walking back to my hotel and there was a group watching some guy do this right out in front. Someone was wise to the trick and screamed “it’s in your back pocket” as they walked away. (It actually was in their pocket) Almost immediately, two people from the crowd started following and harassing the person until security came out and chased them away.

It plays on the human fallacy that one can pay enough attention and make the right choice. The problem, as displayed here is that the game is rigged and there is no possible right choice to make. Gullibility. The sad thing, or maddening thing is that now everyone standing around these scams has a smartphone in the pocket that could have told them in seconds that it was a scam. People, stop believing what you are shown and told. Always verify everything involving your money. The saying “most people are good” is wrong. It should more accurately be “most people are deeply flawed, with complex behavior dictated in part by life stressors, unfortunate decisions and losses”

Saw this scam in New York. These 2 girls wanted to play but I told them not to since it's obviously a scam. And they didn't want $20. Minimum bet was like $100! Absolutely disgusting. There were 2 other people participating in the scam. They were the only ones who won so it was more than obvious.

A really well executed performance bravo! I just loved you way of handling the audience , very witty and funny but no where near the arrogance of some performers who I think have a bad case of "the magicians ego". Keep up the great work.... btw what are your thoughts on David Blaines "two card monte"? I suppose from a magicians perspective its a really simple trick but it gets huge reactions from the spectators

I sat in a cafe in Paris and watched something very similar - their back was to the cafe window with the crowd gathered facing it. You could even pick out the half dozen other people involved dispersed around the crowd, as well as people keeping an eye out - I thought for the gendarmerie, but they passed and weren't bothered. Unfortunately people were playing and losing. It looked like a well organised gang and there were several of them on the same street, presumably all part of the same gang.

I never had occsaion to try it. But I'm pretty sure if you bait against your "intuition" (created by the dealer) you can win. But pretty sure they will not let you go away with their money... Btw I tried on the video and it worked. I wish I could try with you :D
@markjacobs1086

It has literally nothing to do with intuition (or lack thereof) or being able to follow the right card though. You lose if the "dealer" wants you to lose.
