Loved Jacqueline’s pieces…will we see the tile wall piece(s) complete/assembled in the near future? Also amazed at how flat the pcs remained after firing….I struggle with warping on my flat/tile pcs and even dinner plates…how do you keep them from warping?
@Vsmithpots

Slow drying is key using a damp cupboard, also weighting the edges of the tiles and have them sitting on a porous surface.

Love all your videos. I’m about to try my first batch of Randy’s Red glaze based on your video, have you tried it using Gillespie Borate replacing the Gerstley Borate? Did you make other changes?Thanks for all you do, hoping to visit this summer!

I had some trouble with the substitute so just mix a small batch. It may have been my mistake but I am not sure. I ended up adding extra EPK and iron oxide to make it work. I then mixed up a batch with my remaining Gerstley Borate and it worked fine.

Vaughn--- Not sure if at some point you were into mason stains. - I use mason stains (MS) for flowers and leaves. I fight with all the greens. Often my beautiful mint green becomes ugly brown once clear glaze is applied. I've tried Amaco clear, zinc free and finally matte clear to maintain the green color. No luck. I mix my MS with b-mix to the desired color value, bisque at 04 and fire at cone 5. I've checked all of kilns and they're fine. Any guesses or suggestions?

It could be Gerstley Borate, Mason Stain calls it Gastley Borate, it changes the colour response of their stains. There is a book on colour response to different glaze chemicals, If you do not have it look it up on Amazon Glazes cone 6 by Michael Bailey. I have a copy of it but it would involve a lot of testing. You can call Mason Stain directly and ask them, they have a technical dept.

What do you do to keep your stilts from sticking to the bottoms?
@Vsmithpots
@Vsmithpots 5 месяцев назад
They need to be sharp, the points can bend over which makes them stick to glaze more, those need to be straightened. I also glaze thin on the Botton by wiping the base on a water saturated sponge before dipping in glaze.
