My gf told me this year these songs were never about a romance they were about their abusive parents and goodlord the context makes everything hit so much harder i always wondered why or how he could manage such hatred and malice into his voice over a bad relationship. But hands down my favorite thing about this band and why its my favorite is the character growth. You can hear in each album the lyrics healing. Getting more hopeful dare i say happy. Ending with transit of venus’s unbreakable was just art. ART. We have witnessed in song form the internal struggle of an angry young man leaving behind his trauma and ascending past them into an adult. Its beauty. Pure beauty.

This song hits hard. It's actually about drug addiction. My best friend and I were celebrating his birthday on April 18th, 2019 at the karaoke bar. Just got out of an extremely abusive and toxic relationship with a girl I loved more than anything. When she would get mad at me, she would call me the worst names. Would tear me down, make me feel worthless and useless. Would constantly talk shit about me to all her friends. Laugh that she was ignoring my texts. Tell them I sucked at cleaning. Convinced them all that I was abusing her. Yet she slapped me, scratched me, cut me, choked me, swung a chair at my head once, punched me in the stomach a couple of times, and would just try to drive the knife in as hard as she could and get under my skin as much as possible when she was angry with me. But for some reason, even though I left, I still love her, and miss being around her and desperately want to go back to her. What is wrong with me? Lol.
