@@Diana-ef6ue Well I also thought about that and it could very well be but considering the overall tone of the manga it's quite unlikely so this is just speculation & wishful thinking imo. However there's the argument that in most cases only the desperate whose life is at the time valueless would go as far as to sell most of their lifespan which would amount to not much money & they've never explained how the company could possibly make use of such concept (someone's lifespan). In that regard I don't really see what they have to lose by letting these tormented souls to keep on living once they've reached a state of happiness but considering the emphasis on the trade concept when he went on to sell his remaining month (except 3 days) it adds more weight to the whole deal. So the most likely event in the end is that they only had 3 days to spend together before death do them apart, it's very sad ik but at least they found salvation at the end of their lives and that's better than living 50+ years in despair & misery wouldn't you agree? Such's the nature of bittersweet endings. Miyagi was invisible because she's an observer and anyone fulfilling that role is invisible to all but the observed.

@@eaglenebula2172 I thought the ending was supposed to be sad and tragic, that Kusunoki and Miyagi are able to be truly happy only for 3 days before their death, so they got tormented in their whole life and only got what they pretty much deserve in basically the last "3 minutes" of their life. From the eyes of Kusunoki and Miyagi, they might interpret it in the same way as you did but from the eyes of an outside observer, their story is a tragic and hopeless one.

@@LuigiGamesful yes sad & tragic is the feeling I left with after finishing the story as well but still enjoyed it. 3 days in a few panels doesn't compensate that much for something that deeply rooted. For anyone struggling as much as those two irl, let's hope things improve in the not-so-distant future 🤞🏻.

@@eaglenebula2172 I read the novel version and that's probably why my imagination ran wild at the end which made it even sadder for me, like dang I never cried at any kind of stories but this one pushed me off the edge

@@kausthita11 Between the release of a novel & that of an anime there's a biiig diff fam so it ain't safe yet to assume it might happen soon but I hope it does at some point.

Sun Jung honestly, in the end, it doesn’t matter if he dies or not...that’s not the moral of the story. You are free to think in the end if he dies or not, nonetheless both thinkings have their own beautiful ending

It's his masterpiece, I think. His other works are great but you can't really compare it with Mikkakan no Koufuku. I mean this novel literally changed my life, especially that ending. I know that in the afterword, he's saying that he didnt mean to romanticize death, but it looks just like that. Beautiful, makes me sad for hours.

I only read through chapter 10 cuz I wanted to know more about Himeno's backstory cuz tbh I still didn't stomach what she was intending to do.. any idea if the author developed her story a bit further in like a spin-off?

Read the light novel. It's masterpiece.

@@armsregkralkidna1359 it's the same but you get much more feels and depression from the novel. And then much more satisfaction from the ending. It's definitely worth it to read the novel, if I were to choose between Hakomari, Spice & Wolf and other top novels, I'd choose this definitely.
