Three Dog Night - Black and White

When Three Dog Night struck gold with "Joy To The World" in 1971, fans worldwide acclaimed their driving pop/rock sound and powerful harmonies. Today Three Dog Night delivers their signature sound to audiences spanning generations. The current Three Dog Night line up features founding members Cory Wells and Danny Hutton on lead vocals as well as original keyboardist Jimmy Greenspoon and Michael Allsup (lead guitar). Paul Kingery (bass), and Pat Bautz (drums) have joined the group since it reformed in 1981 after a six-year hiatus.
Brought together originally in 1968 by Danny Hutton, with the novel concept of show casing lead singers who could also harmonize together, the group was enormously successful right from the start. Hutton, who had graduated from loading and unloading records at the Disney studio to recording as a solo artist, had met Cory Wells, while Cory was touring with Sonny and Cher; Danny met Chuck Negron through mutual friends.
The group had no hangups about 'doing only their own songs.' They recorded the best new material from the best new songwriters and wound up with fourteen gold albums, nine gold singles and sold over forty million units. Three Dog Night toured extensively during the seventies, breaking attendance records in venues ranging from concert halls to football stadiums. In 1975, however, the rigors of non-stop roadwork caught up with the group.
"We became disenchanted," Wells says today, "We just quietly backed out of the picture. We have always had a sort of verbal agreement that we were never going to exploit the public for our own gain. We are not going to do four or five 'fairwell tours' just to rake in the money. We had come on the scene quietly and we were going to leave the same way, with dignity."
Hutton, the black-haired Irishman, relaxed awhile at home in Los Angeles, then left for Central America, England, and eventually his home town of Buncrana, Ireland. Danny formed a management/booking agency which thrived. Among those bands he managed was the 'premier punk band' "FEAR" and he booked bands such as the "The Go-Go's" and "X." Recently, he has recorded two songs for motion picture soundtracks albums "Wouldn't It Be Good" for Pretty in Pink and "Brand New Day" for American Flyers.
Wells packed his family into an automobile and leisurely toured the United States. An ardent and expert fisherman, Cory traveled the world -- fishing as he went. He is currently a field editor for "Outdoor Life" magazine and writes articles for various sporting publications. Cory has appeared on various television shows such as "American Sportsman" and recently filmed a "Country Sportsman" episode in New Zealand.
Although each band member needed to 'get away' from the hectic world of pop music, each began, eventually to feel the need to return. From unfinished business involving the original group got them together again. To their surprise, they found they all shared the same feeling, a resurgence of interest in music and a growing desire to try it all over again. As Danny Hutton puts it, "We just had a test rehearsal and discovered the old magic was still their." Three Dog Night was reborn. ~SOURCE: www.sing365.com...

It so sad that people today cant understand this message. And that people so many years ago could. We need to rise up, and make this song heard so everyone can understand this message, as of right now, nobody hardly understands it. God made everyone equal, no racism, black, or white people. We are all one body, one human, combining together, to make this world a better place, for God. Im only 12, and this world right now is chaotic. I have family living all over the world, Washington, Texas, and so much more. I pray everyday that God will keep them safe every night, and that they will live to the next day. We need to all rise up together, and make this a better place for children, and adults. We were born for a time like this. Not to just watch what's happening all around the world from a distance. We need to rise up, defeat covid, and make America Great Again.

Robert Smith: Strong message? That's a laugh and a half This song is nearly 50 years old and has had that strong message ever since it's recorded release on the hit chart back in 1972. And that strong message has never gone beyond the boundaries of that song. Because it's none other than a pipe dream in the form of a song and that's all it will ever be. Because a child is black a child is white not together, but separately the grow to see the light of the day to learn that human nature don't work that way.

Peter O: Yes you see I dwell in the NEGATIVE because it happens to be REALITY!....Whereas I see you dwell in the POSITIVE which happens to be idealistic FANTASY.
@unhooked25
@unhooked25 4 года назад
Peter Otool: What NEGATIVITY in my life? That's another one of your fantasies. If you believe the content of that song so much, then why don't you go and try preaching the content of that song to all those blacks down in Harlem and see how far you get? And then you'll sure as hell see what NEGATIVITY is, because you'll find they don't share your noble sentiment and you sure as hell won't get what I BELIEVE, you'll get what I KNOW! And that is you'll be very very lucky if you get out alive.
@unhooked25
@unhooked25 4 года назад
Peter Otool: What I'm expressing I don't see as NEGATIVITY. i see it as REALITY. Many black people don't have a good thing to say about this song, but would you dare even think about saying anything to them? NOOOOOOOOOO! Boxing Legend Muhammad Ali, loved his black race did not believe in and did not like seeing his people of his race marrying outsiders. Would you dare say anything about him much less say anything to him? NOOOOOOOOOO In fact you would probably say "I understand and all the power to you" because I would. Take Japan, they keep their countries population to be over 95% Japanese because they love their people and they love their culture and they do not want and will not have multiculturalism pushed down their throats and that is as natural as breathing. Nationalism was based on tribalism because people are tribal, it's the way we were created and nothing will ever change that.....Well?......Are you gonna say all what I said is NEGATIVITY?...Well I'm afraid I see it as REALITY!....WHY? Simple because I'm not given to all this asinine ideology of Political Correctness and social engineering....However, the song itself I am quite fond of because I have it on one of my 1970s hit collection CDs just as I like many other songs by "Three Dog Night"
@unhooked25
@unhooked25 4 года назад
Peter Otool: You only see racists in WHITE PEOPLE not any other race. And since when did I say I knew Muhammad Ali? In his videos he comes straight out and says he opposes mix marriages. I like the way you twist everything I say. Ever thought of running for governor? And I don't think I know his belief, I know I know his belief. A great boxer and loyal to his race.

Happy 50th anniversary to this great song, released around this time in 1972(it’s 8/31/2022 as I post.) It made the top ten songs of 1972, together with Horse with no name (America), Brandy you’re a fine girl (Looking glass) and My Dingaling(Chuck Berry). May it live on for another 50 years. Always like latter part of song when the chorus of children join in, helping spread this beneficial message, STAMP OUT PREJUDICE and live as one!(Just as John Lennons song Imagine, released the previous December(1971), also comes right out and says-“May the world live as one!”)

3 Dog Night, apparently can’t be in the R &R HOF, because they didn’t write all their own songs! What they did do was even better! They took all the throwaway songs that other artists didn’t want to use...and turn them into magnificent songs, that will stand the test of time! They knew how to turn garbage into magic! Plus their harmonies, and the fact that they were all great singers and performers, should say something really special about them. They were almost as famous as the Beatles!😱 Not to mention, they Still perform,after 50 years! (Except Cory Who tragically died of cancer til age 74!) Danny is the only one who is an official 3 Dog Nighter. But they put on approximately 80 concerts a year...to sold out crowds, no less!!! 50 years puts them in the category of being overdue for R&R HOF by 25 years. What a shame😰.

I was a little kid in 1969, recently emigrated from the tiny island of Jamaica in the Caribbean. America was brand new big huge place I grandmother used to talk about as if it was some magical land. Three dog night song Black and White soothed a tortured black kids soul in the suburbs trying to find his identity or some white people just like them or his skin color and some black people disliked him because of his accent. The song Black and White used to really lift my soul as I was trying to understand life as it was at 8 years old. Shambala came out a few years later and as I understood the world a little better I wanted to go there someday. Little did I realize that the music was what takes you there. Oh, and the fact that they had a black guy in the band also didn't hurt their cred on my eyes. 3 Dog Night is an amazing band🎉❤ my, 😎

Such a legendary group and music for my generation. They actually struck gold two years before "Joy to the World" came out. 21 top 40 hits in which 11 made the top 10 and three made #1. This was # 1 for the week of Sept 16, 1972. This song would make a good anthem for relations today and get rid of racism on both sides.

I was 13 when this song came out and I loved it. My music influences were beginning to shift toward harder rock. And I began wondering if maybe I was becoming to mature for & 3 dog night and their poppy cheese cult. But nah, the vocals and harmony were just too catchy and just pull ya in. This is however the first time I've ever seen the video which is an awesome discovery.

I was in elementary school in the 90s, and in music class we could ask to have our favorite song played. Each kid got a turn. I picked this song to play, and everyone thought I was a dork because it wasn't some rap song or newer pop song. I was embarrassed at the time, but I look back on it fondly
@ThePsho

Meanwhile, in 2021, this song is still awesome. The popular music for my elementary school was New Kids On The Block and Kris Kross, yet here we are today still jamming to a song written in the 50s and performed in the 70s. There's something about reggae style that's timeless. Fits well in any era.

And why not just say they had three very talented lead singer's that also were very talented at singing and vocalizing as a group and very good musicians all of them which you can't ask anything more out of band + great songs and hit songs and then that would explain why they're not been inducted onto the Rock and roll Hall of fame years ago Makes total sense to me and also apparently that logic makes sense to the Rock and roll Hall of fame
