They were an amazing band. I dont think I many people realized how many hits they had. Three amazing lead singers Chuck,Danny and Corey. Thank you for memories
A number of popular artists covered their songs (Elton John, 'Your song'.. Leo Sayer with this one 'The show must go on') to become great hits a few years later...
@@johnegli1308 Yeah, going long before some covering performers made hits of their songs. It only just came to me the similarity of 'Shambala' and 'Handle me with care', released in 1987 by the Traveling Wilburys featuring Jeff Lynne, George Harrison, and Roy Orbison...
Three Dog night. Hell yeah! Although these guys got screwed by corporate, they still were one of the best bands from the 70's. Gimmee a "like" if you agree.
I remember one summer night in the early 70s, and my neighbors were having an outdoor party blasting Joy to the World. It was a fantastic memory that has stayed with me over all these decades. Three Dog Night will always remain one of my favorites!
I read one of the comments below which stated Three Dog Night are not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and I couldn't believe it so I googled it. It is a fact and a shame but it is true. They were pioneers and have every right to be recognized for their contributions....
Political they didn't sign contract with the board member of RRHOF to his Atlantic Records. They were with Dunhill Records. He had a grudge about that Dead now but a stipulation exists...Its the RRH of Flames in my book!
Yes! So many people have great childhood recollections of Joy To the World - I remember being delighted by the "joy to the fishes in the deep blue sea" line and singing it at a playground.
Listening to a replay right now of American Top 40 from May 25, 1974; 39 years ago today. This song was at #4 on the Billboard Hot 100. Nice to listen and go back in time when I was 11 years old and hear these songs, many of which I still have today. I remember the Summer of 1974 was so much as a kid; family vacations, a lemonade stand, wacky packages, pop rocks, bazuka, GI Joe, monster mags/movies, collecting Matchbox cars etc....
Lyrics Baby, although I chose this lonely life It seems it's stranglin' me now All the wild men, big cigars, gigantic car They're all laughin' at the lie Oh, I've been used Ooh-oh-oh-oh I've been a fool, oh, what a fool I broke all the rules Oh, yeah But I must let the show go on Baby, there's an enormous crowd of people They're all after my blood I wish maybe they'd tear down the walls of this theater Let me out, let me out Oh, I'm so blind, oh, I'm blind I wasted time wasted, wasted, wasted time Walkin' on the wire, high wire But I must let the show go on Oh, I'm so blind, oh, I'm blind I wasted time, wasted, wasted, all too much time Walkin' on the wire, high wire But I must let the show go on Baby, I wish you'd help me escape Help me get away Leave me outside my address Far away from this masquerade 'Cause I've been blind, oh, so blind I wasted time, wasted, wasted, all too much time Walkin' on the wire, high wire But I must let the show go I must let the show go I must let the show go on
Man.........fucking hands down.......THEY ROCK!!! I grew up listening to 3DN thanks to my Dad. Such rare musicians they were...and the 3 voices...HOLY MOLY. Try and find a band with just 1 good one nowadays. Nothing quite like the 70's era. I am truly blessed. Thanks guys :-]
But Sayer HATED this version, saying they had changed the meaning of the song. Indeed, in the original text, he says "I WON'T let the show go on", whereas they changed it to "I MUST let the show go on". Personally, I prefer this version. And Leon Russell's presence is simply icing on the cake.
@@kazabushy TDN covered the song... I saw a video clip of the original.. I 've always thought that the Barker imitation in the TDN cover was a nice touch
@@AzhidaReminiec9999 Yes I know they did. Please don't educate me on rock history. I have never been a fan of covers unless they pay homage to and make people aware of the original artist. Don't even get me started on Behind Blue Eyes. NO cover band deserves to be in the RRHOF (as much as it is rigged as it is).
Usually live shows leave me wanting to hear the "clean' studio version, but not this time! That lead singer really nails it! Never was a TDN fan but loved this song.....and the way he sings it....great!
The melody, the vocals/harmonizing,the arrangement is a masterpiece. It’s the kind of song that when it comes on the radio, you stop hearing anything else around you. It is commanding of your attention. It is that good. This performance is stellar.. I don’t want to say that the new music is boring, lackluster, and non creative, but I have to. It started going downhill in the 90’s. Chuck Negron was gorgeous!
Lots of comments about TDN not writing there own songs, but for those of us in the late 60's thru mid 1970's these guys were "IT" ...... does anyone really think that it mattered to us then? The songs could not have been sung and performed any better than TDN. Their look, voices and the feel of their songs were pure to the era. Thanks for posting these vids duderock48.
TDN came along at the right time when music was pivoting from bands to songwriters. I would submit they gave a lot of rising songwriters exposure they might not have had otherwise.
Chuck Negron came and did a show in my town last night and afterwards I went up to him and got his autograph and a picture with him. He's a really cool guy and really nice.
The singer in the band has a shirt on like all of us wore in the seventies, screen print or whatever...men and women had them. They were really the hit top to wear.
Jeff Bear They never wrote their songs but their box set is a who's who of some of the greatest songwriters of that era including Leo Sayer and Paul Williams. They may not have wrote them but they knew how to pick them. ☺
@@WytZox1 they didn't write their songs but some like Joy To The World were written for them or given to them to record first whilst others like this one were just cover versions. This had already been a big hit for Leo Sayer in the UK.
As someone who did grow up to experience it, and with older brothers and sister, I can tell you that even as comparatively commonplace as quality musicianship and songwriting and arranging as this was, I can remember staring at my little radio and saying to myself, "this is amazing, it can't last forever." Even the 80's were amazing, they just sounded different with all of the technical gimmickery infused into the music. The 90's is where things really started to take a nosedive.
Steve Blaugh You're right, during the 90's was the transition. Most noticeably, groups just stopped signing in or with backup HARMONY format (e.g. America & Crosby, Stills, Nash) and it became mainly just one solo singer with the same mono type mid-range voice (cookie cutter voice-same voice and style with different song and music).
You always had the radio on and you couldn't wait for your favorite song to come on. They didn't play just 10 songs over and over back then like they do today. So your favorite song might come on once a day if you were lucky and it was when you least expected it... it really made you happy. the 70s were great. We would also listen to the CBS Radio Mystery Theater each night with the radio under our pillows. Radio was everything. From your favorite song, to spots for movies. The radio spots for Jaws terrified you as much as the movie.
A brilliant rendition by a brilliant group. Many groups would have made this circus theme sound absolutely silly, but these pros pulled out off beautifully, and boy does this song stick in your head. If you didn't know, this song was first written and performed by the quirky but loveable Leo Sayer, who was a fantastic song writer and performer himself: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-O6gEkfwozhE.html
fell in love with this group when i was 15 and when my son was 7 took him to a baseball game in Las Vegas and 3 Dog Night played after the game, back in 1991. His first concert and my first time seeing them live. We BOTH enjoyed it immensely as did the rest of the sold out crowd. Great entertainers.
I submit that not many bands could've taken Leo Sayer's weird little song, and turned it into a huge hit! 3DN for some reason remains underrated today, but in the early 70's they were the BOMB! Negron's voice is so distinctive and remarkable - and in what other group did you see 2 "backup" male singers? Hall of Famers to be sure - in my opinion.
And charisma, a great sense of fun, and ability to connect to an audience- his version of The Show Must Go On is just riveting and, to me, perfection. I wonder if he was high as a kite singing it?!
I like both versions! Saw Leo in concert in 1977 and he put on a good show! And don't get me started on how great TDN is!!! Such talent back in the seventies!
Leo Sayer has some nerve.... Ray Parker Jr wrote, You make me feel like dancing" in it's entirety at home with no help from anyone else and Leo is credited for writing it...
ABSOLUTELY ... THE THREE BEST VOCALISTS ANY GROUP EVER AD ... and yes ... that includes the Beatles ... NOBODY HAD THREE VOCALISTS AS GOOD s them ....... N O B O D Y !!!!!
Chuck Negron was the main singer in 3 Dog Night - either you've got it, or you don't - Chuck Negron, cool, handsome with an amazing voice and range to his voice, expressive too.
Chuck was out of is mind high, but it never became apparent until he was too far over the edge and almost killed himself in a car wreck on his way to a gig. They scooped him up, put a couple of bandaids on him, and he did the show. The audience was none the wiser. Incredible. For a great read, pick up Three Dog Nightmare by Chuck. The 70's and 80's music scene was insane. I know it, is was in the middle of it. Any drug you could want, anytime you wanted it, and women.......well, we won't get into that. As a singer, Chuck is one of my three greatest heros. The way he fought back from the addiction on and became a productive member of society is incredible. Unfortunately, I don't think Danny or Cory will ever let him perform with them again. It's too bad. The were a force to be reckoned with. I was their light guy for some west coast dates in the mid 70's and they were the consumate professionals.
Jerry Clausen I totally disagree...the three of them together formed the best band ever with three great lead singers....all that talent....was truly awesome..
***** I read the book by Chuck Negron...I loved this band..I worked for ABC records back in the 70s .Every time they cut a new album I knew I was guaranteed overtime. LOL They carried ABC for a long while. Dont know about others that read book, but after reading it and seeing how low Negron could go,I couldnt get in the shower fast enough..I really thought Chuck made 3 Dog Night. But what he did to the band with his addiction was too say the least, very selfish..I wish they would kiss n make up,but that will never happen. If I'M not mistaken it is Cory that really holds the "grudge""
***** I don't know about him still having his voice. I just saw him sing, "One", on t.v. a few weeks ago at one of those PBS oldies shows and, although he CAN still sing, whatever song it is that he sang, on the record, he hits the high note and holds it for a bar or two, at this gig, he hit the note every time, but ABRUPTLY cut it off as soon as he hit it!! On the record he goes, "Oooooooooone is the loneliest number", at this gig he went, "Ooone.........is the loneliest number".
The words High Wire is approaching his 4 octave vocal range. It’s a fun song. I’m impressed. I can’t stop hearing everyday. I’m trying to imitate his vocals but not quite there yet! Lol
This song freaking rocks. I remember as a kid hearing it come on the radio and loving it not even knowing who sang it. It just rocks. And Chuck is perfect singing it.
Buenísimo. Gracias por compartirla! La había escuchado una vez cuando niño, no la encontraba y la veo acá, como quien recupera un objeto perdido en la infancia.
When Show Go On came out I was 12 and it was among my favorite tunes. Everyone in the band Three Dog Night sing and play with such passion! I later saw the band at the Carlton in Bloomington, 1983 and their performance was so incredible I had forgotten I was on a date. When the show was over the lights came on and there sat this gorgeous woman I had taken to the show. Well, music really moves me.
These guys were great live in Vancouver 1974. I always loved this song. Sorry to hear about Cory Wells. I remember how wonderful, tall, and sleak he looked in a white suit. These guys were really professional and put on a terrific show.
Выше всех похвал!!! Прекрасная группа!!! До сих пор слушается на одном дыхании. А как мы зажигали под её в своё время. У -х-х-х-х-х-х-х-х!!! Спасибо за видео.
I absolutely love 3DN......one of my favorite groups. I remember playing their albums until they almost wore out. To me, this song is so very meaningful, especially now when I'm older & have seen more.
I just noticed this performance was remixed, using the regular in studio release. While that version is great, this live version is so incredibly much more enjoyable to me. The way "walkin on the wire" is thrown together is just one of the many unique presentations which I hope won't be messed with in the future. There's nothing like live music and to be able to offer this in such a fabulous way is indescribable.
La Música era hecha con convicción, excelente tema que me recuerda mi niñez....y aun conservo el disco de 45 RPM......Geniales y siempre Mágicos...gracias por su arte y gran Musica!!!!!!
