This man is actually the real life equivalent of Vegeta. He gets a character arc fending off the villains while he waits for the team to get up, and once they finally do and victory is pretty much guaranteed he decides to get cocky last second and it all goes to hell from there.

I'm sorry but Z broly is still a better character even though his backstory's ass. He wasn't a mindless big green rage monster, he was psychotic and quite intelligent still. He didn't become the kakarot spouting machine until the second movie. But in that first movie he was actually crazy and pretty scary to be honest. Probably one of the scarier villains out of all the dragon Ball Z
