Every angler has a favorite set of knots that they swear by and consistently use on their fishing trips. Here are some of our favorites, knots that have been proven time and time again to be incredibly effective and reliable. Mike Murciano from BDOutdoors walks us through three basic knots that every angler in Southern California should have in their arsenal.
In this video, Mike demonstrates how to tie the Palomar Knot, the SD Jam Knot, and the RP Knots. The first two are phenomenal knots to use when tying on a jig or hook, while the RP Knot is used when connecting braided line to monofilament or fluorocarbon. I live in SD as well. I like the FG, knot for braid to floro/ cardon. Palamar is a easy go to as well for hooks/ weights. Sometimes even a clinch or double clinch knot depending.. 🤙

I want to try the RP, the 4 turn Surgeon's knot and the Springer. I know the Palomar, but don't use it, the San Diego Jam I use a WHOLE bunch!

Ice video . What’s the difference between the RP and Crazy Alberto? I’ve practiced the Alberto and used it on a recent trip successfully. It seems like the same knot.

A lot of fishing knots are extremely similar, and some knots have different names depending on the region you fish in even though they might be exactly the same. Fish whichever knot you are most confident in tying and have had success with!

For me personally I've used mostly double uni for joining line ,Palomar for dropshot ,and dropper loop for liveys....recently I started using the no slip loop knot ( I think it's called ) for jigheads ....if I was on a boat I think the ringed flyline hook would take care of that live bait action ??!

The palomar knot is a flawed knot for fluorocarbon as it cinches down on the line itself with the large loop. It causes a friction point in the absolute worst place, waiting for enough stress to POP! I NEVER USE THE PALOMAR ANYMORE.
