If we're not careful, we can spend more money on mods than our bikes are worth. Enjoyed the video. 🙂
@ThisLifeRiding
@ThisLifeRiding 7 лет назад
Haha, yeah. I think Moto recently did a build where mods had the same value as the bike new. It is a pretty easy thing to do. But is money really an object when it comes to creating the perfect bike? ;)

If we are talking about approx $800-900 to make the 300 get ninja 400 kinds of power, that seems reasonable vs selling and swapping. (at current used prices in WA, after selling the 300 to get a 400, difference of $1,500 plus taxes, so almost $2,000 to upgrade from a ninja 300 to 400. I could almost get another used bike for that or get a few upgrades to keep the smiles up)

Hey TLR, man I'm enjoying your channel. Seeing you ride has brought back a lot of memories that other channels haven't. I used to ride back in the 80's but quit after a nasty crash. Watching your videos has reminded me of the simple joy of riding. I'm looking at bikes and am leaning towards the 300 or 600 (I'm a big guy so leaning more towards the heavier bike). My bike in the 80's was a Kawasaki LTD and was a bit too lite. Keep up the good work and helpful reviews.

Love your videos bro. Just want to point out a few things about peromance mods on the 300. Firstly, a slip on exhaust will not add any power to the ninja, it will only change the aound. Reason being is the cat and all other emissions controlling devices are located in the stock headers. Therefore, if you want to get added performance from an exhaust you will need to replace both the headers and the can. If you only add a slip on you DO NOT need a power commander/juice box/ecu flash, even with the k&n airfilter. Once you put a full system on you WILL need a power commander as it will cause the bike to run lean, meaning that there is to much air to fuel, this can cause your bike to run really hot and can damage your engine. This is because the stock fuel map on the ecu is set to limot fuel for emissions purposes. A power commander with the proper fuel map will compensate for this by injecting more fuel into the mixture. All in all you were pretty spot on in your explanation, just thought I would clarify a few things.

well im starting to look for one 300 myself, let me tell you why hello my name is Ragimund and i have a problem, i have a honda 4 cyl addiction and i have to put it under control the thing is, if only the little 300 was just a tad 'hotter' if only it could rev up to 15 000...i would already be up on one its already awsome, almost there...i need the 'zing' to keep my weaning working correctly, i need to be able to go all out but without outrageous speed, and the 300 give that, i would just like a tiny little bit more zing at high rpm and a 15k red line to make me 100% happy im so tired of people wanting 'smooth powerband' on those kind of bike...the market always like to pander to idiots and cretins instead of the people who really love bikes

A dyno or dynamometer does not tune your engine, a computer program does that which is typically run off of a laptop controlled by a professional tuner. A dyno is not neccessary for tuning any engine, its function is to show you horsepower and torque figures and to show what your power curve looks like... not hating on anyone, just trying to spread correct information... also if you change your intake or/and your exhaust you HAVE to get a tune in order to get any power gain which an off the shelf power commander tune will work decent enough for you just get the correct tune for your exact mods

couple questions: Is it worth it to get a custom exhaust system as opposed to a slip-on? I mean, I've heard it may not add much HP, but would it sound and look cooler? I'm thinking maybe a custom exhaust could come up under the seat? I'd much prefer that over the exhaust on the side. Are them GoPro's newer models? I don't know much about them, but thought of recording some of my rides.

Awesome video bro, hey got a question if anyone can help, I bought a 2016 ninja 300 a couple months ago only 800 miles on it.. when I ride especially when I run it for a bit when I’m stopped I can hear an ever so lightly noise where it’s going up and down I don’t wanna say an idle problem it’s like it’s breathing lol it may just be normal, this is my first bike 😂

The 300 in EFI. It's not going to need dyno'd after doing a can and air filter change or need a power commander. There's not a big enough change on the engine for the ECM to not know what to do.

Great video, as always! a couple questions. I'm looking to get an aftermarket exhaust soon but I do t have to much money right now. I literally drilled holes in my spare stock exhaust, don't know if you saw that the other day lol. Do you know of a good slip on that's pretty cheap, or should I just save up? Also, what kind of decals are you looking for? like custom decals or?
@ThisLifeRiding
@ThisLifeRiding 7 лет назад
+Tristen Hogue I would say, if you plan on keeping the bike for a while, save up and get the one you want. If you only plan to keep it for another year or so, a less expensive exhaust may be a good idea. Do take the value of the bike into consideration. No reason to spend a grand on an exhaust when the bike is only worth 1500. As for decals, a lot of motovloggers have decals for their channel and whatnot. Same with brands. Decals are a pretty common thing to trade and pass around. I figure if anyone wants to send me a sticker or decal I will display it for them. Plus, it will add a little spice to the bike. After I made this video, I was thinking I might add them to the side panels under the seat as well. Could give the bike a pretty interesting looks.

I'd say the exhaust is for sound and the air filter doesn't do anything. I doubt that big piece of foam is restrictive at all. And as far as exhaust, a lot of big bikes have 2 exhaust outlets that are each the same diameter as the outlet on the 300, but those bikes are making 110-160 hp. That tells you right there that the stock exhaust on the 300 is probably good for 50-60 hp. Most of that stuff is just hype, same with cars. My old Integra made 165 whp thru a single 1-5/8" pipe. Went to bigger exhaust and no increase on the dyno. The one thing worthwhile is tuning. Not a power commander, actual direct tuning of the ecm because they can adjust the fuel and ignition maps but also the air valves behind the throttle bodies that are controlled by the computer. I personally don't like the slow rev off idle and the slow response when sitting at like 7k rpm in gear and you wack the throttle. All of that is due to those air valves and it can be changed with tuning. im on the lookout for a tuner in phx that knows what they are doing with these 300s
@tricd0444
@tricd0444 7 лет назад
gtdrummerdude not all bikes are the same. Modern vehicles have flow restrictions built into the exhaust and/or air box to stop someone from switching their exhaust out and gaining 50 hp and trashing any idea of clean running vehicles
@Carguylogan
@Carguylogan 7 лет назад
Restricting air flow and having clean emissions are two separate things. Unrelated. I have a degree in automotive technology. The Ninja 300 has a second set of butterflies behind the main butterflies inside the throttle body. The ecm controls them to smooth power delivery and make lower gears smoother. The best thing for these bikes is to have a direct ecm tune not a piggyback power commander tune. With a direct tune the tuner can change the throttle valve maps.

I know you've only been riding for a few years, but have you ever thought about going to a racetrack any day soon? I presume a 300 probably wouldn't be a great track bike, but if you ever were to upgrade would you race? I really want to race some day, my mother says it's too scary, but hey, it's my life and I'll be an adult by then. Love your videos, I'm likely going to get a Ninja 300 when I can get my license, it's good to watch someone ride it so I can see and not hear what it's like.

@nicholasmezes5043 3 года назад
I've replaced both and have much better throttle response doesn't seem like it is running lean
@andrewstambaugh8030
@andrewstambaugh8030 Год назад
*These aren't closed-loop feedback checking with oxygen & adjusting,* like a car or more expensive bike would. These are given a quick factory tune/map to rough match the stock setup. When you replace the air filter, as an example, you will get better throttle response, but it will run more lean. (Note: I would do this before the exhaust, unless you really care about sound). Just replacing either an air filter/snorkel delete or just the exhaust is not too much change in airflow, so _probably_ ok. But airflow is a stacking issue: if you have one restriction, *lessening the other restrictions helps a bit, but it's still mostly controlled by the worst restriction.* But if you remove both worst restrictions, they play off each other and make a much bigger difference than individually. 1+1= 3... And in so doing, now you are way out of the stock airflow range and dangerously lean (and losing power and responsiveness for running excessively lean & hot). PS. even for a 90's corolla, an air filter was a noticeable improvement. If a couple thousand pound hunk of metal with only a few percent difference in power is noticeable, it's going to be noticeable on a bike. For comparison, the stock ninja 300 vs ninja 400 is 5.8hp difference. *Do you think you'd notice the difference between hopping on a ninja 300 and a ninja 400?* I sure would. And price point comparison: if you already have a ninja 300, is it worth trying to buy a ninja 400... if you can get ninja 400 kinds of power from about $800 worth of parts? (plus consider sales tax if swapping bikes in WA, like me) And for that, the ninja 300 probably actually get better gas mileage (depends on how far you go with increasing airflow, but simply retuning to be less lean from stock with or without other mods is an efficiency improvement)

I stopped trying to answer that question a while back. Pricing of shops and materials swing widely from region to region. Take a peak at the owners manual and call up your local shop for estimates. Take into account the rate you rack up miles and it should be pretty easy for you to find for your region. Hope that helps man.

Wouldn't it be better to buy a 600 instead of modding a 300
@mjnoob1391
@mjnoob1391 5 лет назад
My problem is not being able to makeup my mind. There's so many mods I want to do to my Ninja, and I want to keep it because it's a comfortable bike for commuting and light enough and quick enough to have fun in twisty roads. However, whenever I get passed by a super sport, I cum in my pants. I'm thinking instead of paying for all the mods, I'll put it towards a 2nd bike, but I really like my 300 and as the name implies, I'm a noob. I've had my bike over a year now, got over 5,000 miles on it, so I feel I'm ready for another bike, but I think - if I can afford it - I'll own 2 bikes and still mod out my 300. The indecision is killing me. I suppose if I were rich, I wouldn't have debated this for the past 6 months. Right now I can barely afford the payments on my 300 and insurance on a 600rr will be about as much as my payments are on my 300 now, so at this time, I can't afford a 600. Which is why I'm leaning towards mods for my bike. Hotbodies, projector headlights, wider mirrors, tires, these are a few of my favorite things. oh my.

when i will buy a 125cc i will make sure it is equal tuned to a 300cc :p so on it still will be 15Hp :p legal for A1 let us say :p
@acey9982
@acey9982 7 лет назад
I couldn't do that to myself, 125 is simply too small for bigger roads. I just decided to wait till i turn 19 to get my A2, then hop on a ninja 300 like maboi TLR here (or i MIGHT fork out for a brand new cbr250rr when it comes out, coz that bike looks like nothing else). A 300 is enough, especially in london :D

KillerByte nice hehe :D but A license is to expensive atm so i just need to pay few euros and take a 4 hour drive lesson and i get a 372 code on my B license to ride a 125cc with max 15 :( so my first bike will be a mt125

No, he obviously just doesn't have great English, which isn't his fault. No, it's not a power mod but why do you want more power? More speed. And it is a speed mod.
@ShadowLancer128

Guys he means a quick shifter- less time between gears means more power down on the road!

not being a goof or internet troll butttt...any vehicle, car, bike truck the very first mod should ALWAYS be an engine management system. in anything semi new the ECU etc is mapped very poorly from factory. Adding the Commander or Accessport or whatever will release extra HP right off the bat and usually better gas mileage etc. You also get a good baseline of what truly your machine runs at. Then you add mods and use OTS maps or custom ones...the simple idea is no mods till you can exploit the said mods properly and safely. In a common vehicle most OTS maps are fine custom dyno tune really is for tweakers or those who do really deep mods

In a video about the three best POWER mods you can add, you admit that you’ve never seen results that show an aftermarket exhaust adding HORSEPOWER to your bike. I’m sick of these videos that bait you with the title and can’t deliver when they’re played.

I think the options in this video are the best options for the majority of riders and the options you suggest are more for advanced riders. Not advances as in, skill, but advanced as in, know what to expect from such mods and the risks involved. Perhaps people who can deal with the risks if something goes wrong.

Oh god, you are totally unqualified to make comments on these things! You clearly don't know what you are talking about! You'd better talk about wether white fairing looks better or green, not these stuff! ... the ECU, "which I guess is the computer of the bike", ... Seriously? And the thing you are referring to as "exhaust" is just a muffler, not the whole exhaust! It only changes the sound and nothing else! Most of the time the decibels of the aftermarket ones are way out of the legal range.
