Thanks for uploading this! I had no idea this parody existed! I only found out about it because I just watched another recently uploaded video of Suzanne Somers appearing on Rosie O’Donell’s show. Suzanne mentioned she had just seen Norman Fell to do this parody the previous week! So of course, I had to search for it. I thought the entire cast had stopped speaking to her, but it makes sense that Norman Fell wasn’t affected by the feud, since he had already left the show.
As a die-hard Three's Company fan, this is indeed a treasure (although I qualify what I mean by that below)! First off, this HAS to be one of Norman Fell's final appearances ever, as he died the following year, 1998. I'm amazed that Suzanne Sommers decided to reprise her role as Chrissy, especially since John Ritter was still alive, and Sommers was not on speaking terms with him or with Joyce DeWitt at the time. I'm thinking that Sommers was ok working with Fell again, since her dramatic fallout with Three's Company happened during the end of Season 4/beginning of Season 5, when Don Knotts had already taken over as Ralph Furley. You're absolutely right - there's NOTHING specific on the internet about the MTV Jenny McCarthy show, not even on Wikipedia or IMDb. Episodes are mentioned, but only the number and the broadcast dates, nothing at all about the content. Considering that both Suzanne Sommers and Norman Fell were well-established stars, the lack of info is even more surprising. I thought it was an amusing twist that Mr. Roper became a gay BDSM daddy, fitting perfectly into the annual Folsom Street Fair (I'm originally from San Francisco, that's how I know). I also found this clip painfully unfunny, forced and contrived, and even talented actors like Sommers and Fell couldn't save this sketch (in my humble opinion). I found the Janet and Jack parody characters totally blasé and too easy to dislike. From this short clip, I can see why the Jenny Mccarthy Show has been more or less forgotten. It feels like utter trash to me, sorry, but that's my gut reaction. While I don't find this clip artistically/ comedically interesting, it's a wonderful historical document that captures two wonderful actors parodying their roles from a long bygone era. I hope too that this clip doesn't get taken down. Do you know what number episode this is? What other sketches are on this episode, or is this sketch the only thing you have from this episode saved on the VHS tape? Thanks for uploading - aloha from Hawaii!
I do have the full episode of this. I believe Fountains of Wayne was the musical guest, and I see their performance is already on RU-vid. I guess if there is any interest, I can upload the full episode, but like you said, it's not the best in terms of comedic quality. I'm pretty sure I saw a commercial promoting the Three's Company parody, and that's why I set my VCR timer to record it. I have another episode with Hanson on it, and I'm pretty sure their performance is already on RU-vid too. I thought Suzanne's performance was absolutely spectacular in this. She did all of her Chrissy mannerisms perfectly as did Jenny, surprisingly. And Norman was brilliant. I love him so much that he got into the spirit of it and agreed to do this. While the writing wasn't anything great, I absolutely found myself laughing out loud at Susanne's and Norman's performances. I was hoping that some Three's Company die-hards would run across this and enjoy it since it seems to have been forgotten by history!
@@JarodFrank thanks for your reply! It would be nice to see a full episode, but again, who knows if someone could come with a copyright strike (which is ridiculous, since almost no one knows about the MTV Jenny McCarthy show anyway). I might've been a bit harsh with my judgment. Will have to watch the clip again. I'm not terribly fond of parodies in general, so that biases my opinion. It was heartwarming to see Suzanne Sommers and Norman Fell in their respective roles, though. Good ol' times.
@@HaritheRenaissanceMan Check the comment from David Afforo above. He has the full episode of this and 3 other Jenny McCarthy Shows uploaded all in one video. Check out his channel if you're interested!
This was filmed in 1997. So about 16-17 years after Suzanne was fired from Three’s Company. Around this same time, a made for TV movie about Three’s Company was being filmed. According to Suzanne Somers, she exchanged notes with Joyce Dewitt and John Ritters during the production of the movie to agree to the story line. Many parts of the story line are false in the movie but the three agreed to it in order to drum up interest in the show in syndication. No verbal communications. In 2003, John called Suzanne. In 2012, Joyce and Suzanne kinda reconciled on Somers talk show.
when Mr. Roper looks at the camera at the end after the girls come to the door is sort of the way the scene in Stay Tuned ended with Jack screaming after Janet and Chrissy came to the door
