I think I heard you say in a previous video that you wanted to wait until you got a 40x20x8 aquarium or pond to get arapimas again, any update on that? I totally understand it’s easier said than done, but you definitely know to care for and grow big ones!
Thank you. Yes, this is the biggest planned exhibit for now (hopefully until we get a larger building). It is still only on paper. I am finishing the 10K 18x16x5.5 feet. So sadly no arapaimas for me in near future.
In my country TSN×RTC is pretty common and quite cheap, they called Leopard Catfish, you can find them at online shop, you'll be found thousand of them
Interesting. These manmade hybrids were originally made in South America as food fish. I deduce that these fish are farmed in Indonesia then too. I wonder why - for food and culls are directed into the ornamental fish trade?
Do you think or know that they are farmed in Indonesia / SE Asia just for ornamental trade?? They are not all that attractive to general public who lokk down on catfish.
Thats true and not .but on the end this missbuilt mutants should not be around. They are not healthy to 98% and even ugly. Same to the marble tsc hybrids and usw.
Thank you for your kind comments. In general, I am a purist and dislike the man-made and unnatural. But if they exist, might as well learn about them, is my thinking...
Hi, thank you for your interest. We don't make any special effort like filter floss or polishing or aquasocks, etc., or any other kind of fine mechanical filtration. All our filters are simple and primitive sumps, which I clean once in a few years. It's just they are large, larger than the tanks themselves and as such they serve also as a debries sediment / catchment chambers, I guess. I personally wouldn't rate our water so high in clarity, to me it is average, but I grant it may look different to another eye.
Since we get refuse, that is culls, in our ornamental fish trade from the food fish farms, their genetics is inferior and irregular versus what could be (and what remains at the farms and is then served on the platter). Our 6 year old is about 3.5 feet currently.
One thing I could recommend is joining MFK forum and talking to peers all over the world but for you most importantly your local peers in Malaysia and the rest of SE Asia. We have quite a few great members from Malaysia who I am sure will advise you of local sources of fish. SE Asia seems to have them all and supplies the fish all over the world.
