Me and my brother tried bathing my cat where he held her and l washed. She was scratched his arm and struggled. This cat acting like she ain’t a spoiled princess and that l’m totally abusing her. It’s what she gets for sleeping on dirt and other messy surfaces to then sleep on the couch
@@OpickHidayato Many cats don't care about getting wet, they just don't want to be submerged or feel like they could drown. Mine will trot in the rain as they please but when I pull out a plastic tub of soap and water they scatter. It varies with each cat.
...our cat has literally given Himself a bath that way when he (on multiple occasions) fell into the toilet from a window. He Eventually learned not to fall asleep in that window...
One of my cats had flees once and I gave him medicine so the flees died but I had to bathe him to get rid of the dead flees. I made him chill with me in the bathtub for 2 hours, just chilling and getting him relaxed. Than I slowly filled up the bath while petting him and he didn’t even mind. When the water was getting higher (his head still above water of course) I washed him and after that was all done I gave him his favorite snack while drying him off. Worked all fine

it's actually because they also have very absorbent fur, it gets cold and heavy pretty much the same reason we don't wear clothes in the shower, so make sure it's warm and comfortable

@@zander2190 Well then my vets disagree with you. They say that every time you wash your cat you disturb the balance of the natural oils of the fur and skin of the cat. For a healthy cat there are no benefits to a bath or shower. But when you bring the natural oils out of balance the cat is missing its protective layer and becomes more vulnerable. There are a few exceptions but if you cat does need baths then there is probably a medical issue. But please do whatever you think is best for you cat. So am I 😉
It's actually because they have a special coating on their fur and they don't like it to get wet since they prefer to bathe themselves some cats just love water though but some prefer not to get wet it is important to bathe them sometimes but definitely don't do it often because it's actually not good for them to be bathed often unless they're really really dirty or are unable to clean themselves for example if they're a kitten without a mom to clean them and they can't clean themselves yet, an old cat who can't keep itself clean, or a disabled cat who can't reach every spot due to the disability Another reason they don't like water is because water can mean death for them their instincts tell them to avoid it because if they get wet and cannot dry off they can get sick and die so that's another reason a cat may be afraid of water it can be because of discomfort as well for example a cat with long fur surely won't enjoy having wet heavy fur

My vet always said to bathe them only if they specifically need it, like they get into something that made them dirty that would be dangerous for them to bathe themselves for (like glitter, cleaning fluid, paint, lots of mud etc). Cats are very good at keeping themselves clean and rarely need help with that unless they have been dirtied by something it would be unsafe for them to clean themselves. And it's just not great for their skin and fur to bathe them too often. They need it if they're young kittens and don't have a mom to bathe them, but once they're able to clean themselves it should be only if they get very dirty with something they shouldn't clean themselves. But do brush your cats! Not only do they love it but it will prevent hairballs and help them keep cool when they are shedding a lot.
There's a joke using that: 1. Thoroughly clean the toilet. 2. Add the required amount of shampoo to the toilet water and have both lids up. 3. Find the cat and soothe him while you carry him toward the bathroom. 4. In one smooth movement put the cat in the toilet and close both lids. The cat will self-agitate to make ample suds. (You may need to stand on the lid so that he cannot escape.) Never mind the noises that come from your toilet, the cat is actually enjoying this. CAUTION: Do not get any part of your body too close to the edge, as his paws will be reaching out for anything they can find. 5. Flush the toilet three or four times. This provides a "Power Wash" and Rinse", which I have found to be quite effective. 6. Have someone open the door to the outside and ensure that there are no people between the toilet and the outside door. 7. Stand behind the toilet as far as you can, and quickly lift both lids. 8. My next door neighbours poor cat who spent a lot of time in my house with my cats actually used to smell of perfume sometimes, no wonder the poor thing was always at my house.

Well I mean when my cat has fleas so bad that he’s grooming and biting his fur ALL the time causing painful big hair balls, I think one bath for his fleas isn’t as bad as letting him suffer with as many fleas for days until we can get his special flea medicine.
@@Doku666 that's different. If you live in an area where fleas, ticks, etc sure bathe them but not to often because you can damage the coat. They have a special bacteria in their coat that's important. I used to bathe 1 cat because he would get these nasty greasy spots along his face and tail and chest. So I get it.
@@Doku666 there are anti flee shampoos that are safe and meant for cats although they cost a lot. try cleaning the house and combing your cat's fur often. I reccommend bathing your cat once every few months (not every month) then comb and hand pick the fleas.

yeah 100% always put a towel under the cat when youre bathing them. it gives them something to grip onto and thats way more comfortable than a plain sink

if they wanted to make an actually helpful video, they couldve covered how to properly condition a cat to water using positive reinforcement if you have an adult cat who has little to no experience being bathed and is showing fearful behaviors, doing it in the sink vs bath vs shower is likely not going to make a big difference. you need to focus on their fear response to the water as an unfamiliar stimuli
Are we forgetting that cats wash themselves like every 5 minutes? You should only bathe a cat yourself if they have flees or ticks that you need to wash out, or are old and refuse to bathe themselves. To prevent furballs just brush their fur. It's not that hard.
Mine needed baths for some skin problems for a few months. She wasn't that bad about it. Now I just wash her butt when she gets poop stuck to her fur and obviously tries to get it off by rubbing on the floor smushed it into the tail more. She doesn't want to clean that but she will fight me like it's death for trying to wash it for her. There's no winning .

This is actually false, it’s really inconvenient for most cats to be bathed yea there are certainly breeds that need more fur care and treatment then others but most of the time it just really uncomfortable for there fur to stick to them it also removes there sent. Cats also naturally clean themselves so there’s almost no need to bathe them. One last thing water also can be very loud and due to cats hearing being at higher frequencies then humans it can be very loud and startling to most cats!
My cat wasn't afraid of the water, he was afraid of drowning. He was scared being in the tub by himself, but if I was in there with him, he'd be okay. When we got older I couldn't bathe with him anymore, but I'd still keep my hands on him and soothe him so he knows he wasn't gonna drown. Maybe other babies are afraid of that too
In general, a healthy adult cat doesn't require bathing unless he or she has gotten into something that has coated the fur and can't be easily removed with brushing, Cats groom themselves naturally, however their owners should help keep them clean by brushing or combing them regularly. Their fur gets matted and cold whilst bathing, therefore not necessary.
@@heilmadon I've owned cats for over 30 years and have never given a cat a flea bath. The only flea treatment my cats ever got was a topical solution from the veterinarian. Cats don't need baths

when cats were wild water would weigh them down, making it harder to escape from predators. their fur would cling to their skin making it uncomfortable, like wet socks. cats love warmth, and water gets cold easily which makes them cold. thats why they dont like water.
I've had to wash my cat two times. The first time she looked at me like I was trying to murder her. The second time it wasn't a whole lot better. There's got to be a real good reason to wash my cat.
Once my roommate went on vacation for 2 weeks and about a week into it, her cat got so depressed that she climbed into the bath tub and peed in herself then just laid down in it without even trying to clean herself. The cat got a bath. Now the cat follows me around any chance she can.
The only reason for the only time my mom did bathe our one of our cats (we’ve had a few through the years. Never more than one at a time. I say ‘one of’ bc i don’t remember which, I think it was our current one that we’ve had longest-) was ticks/fleas. Wash them fuckers out. Otherwise, we let her bathe herself. uwu
It isn't the water they're afraid of. It's the "Having a Huge Monster HOLDING them underwater that they're afraid of. I have 5. I started off finding out which trusted me the most, and started bathing her while the others watched. I use the Kitchen Sink and the Spray Wand. If you try to just "Stuff" a cat into a pool of water, make sure you have good Health Insurance.
I feel like if anybody does decide to bathe their cat, they should limit doing it only a slight few times a month or two. Like you said, cats usually clean themselves, cats also have very absorbent fur

Of course there are cases where some cats cannot or choose not to clean themselves (rare cases and usually medical reasons) and of course then the cat will need to be bathed but if that's not the case and your vet doesn't say the cat needs extra cleaning then simple brushing works wonders for cats cleanliness and hygiene.

I've never had a cat that smells. They always actually smell really nice. They don't need baths unless they can't clean themselves for some health reasons. They're not like dogs. They'll be fine lol
Dogs don't need showers as well. I have dogs since i am 7 years old. the only time we had to wash any of my dogs were when they smelled is like maybe once or twice a year. you can just let dirt dry and brush it out. also don't do it in a bathtube or shower. if you have a garden or any other place outside you can use buckets/ bowls of warm water. ALWAYS CHECK THE TEMPERATURE . DO NOT USE NORMAL SHAMPOO. get a dog shampoo. also if it's hot outside they like it even more to cool down. If you have a puppy. get them used to it early on. please don't do it in the shower. use a small bucket or bowl. don't put water over their face. don't force them. and reward them if they enjoy it
Actually, within the cats fur, are air pockets to keep their body temperature at a good temp. Cats don’t want baths (THEY BATHE THEMSELVES) first of all. Second of all, the bath can and will mess with their body temperature and won’t go back to normal until their fur is complete dry
actually, cats usually groom themselves. if their fur is in very bad, visibly dirty, or matted condition then you may bathe them. also, yes, they are afraid of water- it makes the fur stick closer down to the skin than usual which is uncomfortable.
I have a cat who has the same problem, terrified of running water. I sink bathe him in the kitchen bc the sink has two sides, one sides was soapy water and the other has clean water. He does great as long as he don't hear the water come on.
Fun little story about my first cat: I had a cat named Guiness, she was a really sweet cat, she had black thick fur and green eyes. She really really loved baths, I mean when we wouldn’t bathe her, she’d meow loudly and knock down all the shampoo and conditioner bottles in our shower. Also, when we’d take her to anyone else’s house, she’d do the same thing until we turned the water on. The died in December of 2011 due to liver failure, we miss you Guiness!
I was always under the impression cats either hated or was afraid of water, but I've seen some of them on YT swimming in bodies of water, including one swimming in the ocean and they seemed very happy and unafraid. These cats here all so cute.
I distinctly recall being lifted up and waterboarded as a child every so often for no reason and being so scared out of my mind and crying so much. My parents say that they were just giving me a bath, but that's not at all close to how it went in my memories. It's effortless to relate to cats in this way. I'm not scared of water. I'm not scared of baths or showers, I like them, I like swimming. But I'll always remember how scared and betrayed I felt in my youngest years. It's not worth it to rush things because YOU want it over with sooner. When it's ME that's suffering through it. If they had done it the right way, I wouldn't have been so scared. Cats are not scared of water. They're scared of you. And they have reason to.
I've tried a bunch of things all slowly introducing the water component SINCE SHE WAS A KITTEN and as soon as a drop of water touches her she immediately tries to jump on me. Seems instinct driven. I fostered two kittens later and they weren't as bad but sometimes if the water was too loud (used cup to wet/rinse them) in pre-filled water they would freak out the way my cat did and immediately went to claw at my arm to get out.
Cats are self-cleaning, no need to do this except in exceptional circumstances, like if you did something stupid like put flea poison all over your cat forgetting cats clean themselves.
@@curiousnerdkitteh I only bathe my rats after they stain themselves with berries or dark chocolate (all occasional snacks ofc). They get really dirty with the tasty stuff. I don't know in what circumstance a cat could get dirty but I'm guessing something similar must occur.
@@DeathnoteBB nope. dark chocolate is completely fine for rats. checked multiple studies. only in larger quantities is it bad, but that applies to a LOT of things.
also teaching them to be okay with the sound of running water really helps! its best to teach them to be okay with baths when they're still young but im sure you can be successful even if they're older too
Also cats don’t need bathed on a regular basis. They are very good at keeping themselves clean, and have ways of removing bad smells from their own fur. They only need bathed on certain occasions such as, something sticky or toxic on their fur, fleas with flea shampoo, they can no longer or refuse to clean themselves (usually caused by physical or mental health issues). Bathed don’t hurt them (as long as your doing it right) but they don’t usually need them.
@@tabbi888 Fleas can gain immunity. In fact, that's why every few years they HAVE to create a new formula. Doesn't change the fact your cats can still get fleas and get dirty because of them.
Cats don't need baths exept if they can't clean themselves properly. For example if they are old, sick or really young, after a rescue it can also be needed. So it's unecisary stress if you ask me.
I just put on my swim suit and get in the tub with them. I’ve done this with every cat I’ve ever bathed. It’s works well to comfort them and it’s much easier to keep them where you want them. Just have everything you need ready and nearby. I’ve even done this with stray cats that needed some love. They really do stay much calmer.
“If that doesn’t work, put him in the shower” So in other words, completely disregard the whole trying to get the cat comfortable thing and trap them so they can’t escape 😂 ETA: this is to point out the hypocrisy, not to actually laugh at a cat being trapped and forced to take a bath.

@@sillydiscord6835 How exactly could it have been worded better? It wasn’t exactly a joke. It’s a blunt approach to what they did in the video. They legit spent most of the time talking about the cat’s comfort (which is important) and then completely disregarded their whole message by basically saying “if all else fails, you can always put the cat in the shower and shut them in while you spray them with a detachable faucet head.” That’s legit what they showed in the clip if I remember correctly which makes it even worse. Yes I am blunt, but I think I rightfully called them out on that in my blunt words.
Exactly, water only damages their natural furr and their own saliva is the best option as it gives a natural, clean, fluffy, shiny and healthy furr and skin.
@@temp3462 they should only be washed in extreme conditions, such as flea infestations or fecal matter matting thier fur, Cats do not need to be bathed on the regular. Sure my cat loves taking a shower with us but he will bring hellfire down on us if we get him into a bath unwillingly.
@@hannahhenderson1113 Thats correct, I have never bathed my cat and many people on my socials are asking me what do I do to my cat to make his furr look so beautifull and I always tell them that I never wash my cat and I give him variaty of vitamins and he is a very healthy and happy cat.
@@temp3462 I completely agree. The only reason I have washed my cat is that my female cat had gotten too obese to bath her back end and there wasn't another option, as she had an odor and fecal matter all over her.
