Recently binned off the ultimately disappointing Hyper-x Quadcast for this microphone. My only regret is that I didn't by the MV7 initially. It is substantially better.
Hello, I have a shure mv7 and I have the following problem: when connecting the microphone to my computer via USB cable, the audio level it records is very low, even with a maximum gain level (36db) the sound it captures is too low , how do I solve it?
Very nice, Soren. Just replaced my 14-year-old MacBook Pro, had been using a 25-year-old Shure 4-channel analog XLR rig to feed Soundtrack Pro, long since dropped by Apple. This mic addresses a number of issues encountered with Logic Pro X. Before retiring I ran numerous radio stations, never had problems with Shure gear.
The Shure MV7 is a great microphone! But if you want to help even more with the plosives, you can buy a windscreen that's for an SM7B, it'll fit on there perfectly, makes the mic look even more like an SM7B and in my personal opinion, just really enhances the sound quality even further.
Yeah, Mr. Know It All (thats me) recorded his first video with the MV7 last night BEFORE watching this video and had it set to "Near" mode. So it came out super low, as I keep my mic just off screen (about 12 inches off) Lucky me, I get to record the whole thing over again. Upgraded from the MV5 snowball and I think I'll be a Shure man for life. That being said, great video, learned a lot, liked and subbed.
The only disadvantage of this mic is it's mini USB port. You always have to buy old cables for this 🎤. In 2020 mini USB in a such expensive mic is unbelievable. No USB C
Hi SHURE Team! We love using your microphones to create our videos. One of them is MV7 . We have an interesting idea on how to subtly feature it in our content.
can this record sax playing? ive been trying for a long time but when i finish recording the sax is quiet and when i turn the volume up the audio starts crackling, can anyone help me figure out how to fix this
I just purchased two of these and absolutely love them. Great companions to my 7b. Such a great mobile mic to use for on site podcasting to have studio sound quality, imo. well done at this price for us newbies.
Really nice and precise video, but not a single word about the XLR output, all focused on USB and APP :-( . is the XLR output completely un-affected of the APP ??....
Can I just buy this and use the usb to connect with my mac? Is it all I need? Just a laptop and the mic itself? or do i need any other things like filter thing separately? i need to know because if it’s just the mic and ready to go i’m buying it thanks.
Hi! The MV7 can connect directly to your Mac via USBA-MicroB or USBC-MicroB. If connected via USB, download our free ShurePlus™ MOTIV app for desktop, which gives you access to additional features on your MV7. You can learn more here: www.shure.com/products/microphones/mv7
Hi! If recording with the MV7, the ShurePlus MOTIV desktop app does not have a recording feature. Our team suggests using Audacity or Reaper for recording and editing on a PC or Mac, both of which can be downloaded for free.
These controls directly change the USB output of the MV7 mic, meaning any app that uses microphone input (Discord, in-game audio, Adobe Audition, Audacity) will receive the audio as configured. The Motiv app is just a control panel, any application will receive the audio.
Back in July 2020 I was looking at the SM7B but really didn't want all the extra kit to just jump on a call wit a decent mic. And really didn't want to buy any other mic because they're fugly as... sooo glad the SM7 is here, pretty much gave me exactly what I want out of the box
Not sure why you guys bother having a gain slider when I have to max out the slider EVERY TIME just so I can be remotely heard at all... don't understand why this mic sounds so quiet compared to previous mics I've purchased.
Hello, thank you for your video. I have a problem. I bought mv7+ and downloaded the motvi mix app. My problem is this: While speaking from the microphone, I want to hear my voice through the Macbook speaker at the same time, but it did not work. I went into the settings on the Macbook and selected the "audio input" section as mv7. I selected the "Audio output" section as macbook air speaker. But I still can't hear my own voice through the speaker. What setting should I use for this?
So I recently purchased the mv7+ mic and the Focusrite Scarlett Solo 3rd Gen. I’m really new to this whole scene. Now whether I connect the Mic to either usb or using the XLR cables directly into the interface, when ever I set headphone monitor on OBS I get a delay. I have been working on this for about three days now trying different things and asking on discord. I have tried using the software that comes with the MV7+ and without it. The way I have it set up. Mic is set up on the main screen for MV7+. The desktop audio is set up as MV7 plus headphones I go to the advance settings and set monitoring to MV7+ headphones. I then going to the settings and select monitor with other source. I have tried connecting to headphones directly into my computer and also connecting the headphones into the interface, but no matter what I connect to as soon as I hit headphone monitoring I hear the delay. Now I know if I connect to the interface and hit the direct monitor button then i won’t get a delay, but now I no longer hear any filters from OBS. I must be doing something wrong. Is there a way to get a walk-through of every setting I need to do?
Does the mic “remember” the last known settings? I need to be able to set up the mic, ship it out to someone, have them plug and play the mic with the settings I have chosen... I have some Røde ntg videomics that do this and it works amazing, I just need another mic option for smaller more reflective spaces
Hi! Shure doesn't make a cable longer than 1 meter. You can learn more here: service.shure.com/Service/s/article/Longer-Cable-for-MV88plus?language=en_US
The Micro-USB port is the absolute worst possible choice by Shure at this time. Folks, if you get this style of mic with a Micro-USB port, make sure you dedicate a short micro-USB cable extension to this port, and never remove it or wiggle it! Duct tape it or something. A reliable "USB printer cable" would have been the easiest to implement. The competition knows it. #1 failure point on the Y*ti mics is the micro-USB port. If you folks are sourcing this item used, down in the future, review that the port is not past end-of-life.
Micro USB!? Are these people crazy? A mic in 2022 using a connector from 2007. Unbelievable that nobody: designers, engineers, product managers did not veto such a decision. Keeping my SM7 till these guys re evaluate the concept of quality.
Thanks, Shure, for putting this mic out at a really good price. Correct me if I'm wrong, though, but wasn't one of the big selling features of the MV7 its ability to isolate vocals and, thereby, reduce unwanted background noise? I use WAVES X-Noise and Z-Noise as well as the various iZotope RX8 plugins in my studio to clean up problem audio on recordings made in less than ideal environments, so I'm familiar with ways to do this in post. I guess I was hoping some streamlined type of NR app was being used in the MV7. It seems that all that's being done to combat a noisy environment is to employ a dynamic mic which has less "reach" than a condenser mic, and a cardioid pickup pattern which picks up less sound off-axis and, therefore, picks up less of the room. It's also disappointing that the bass roll-off and presence boost are not available on the XLR output. Still, for $250, it sounds very nice and a whole lot like the SM7B. I may get one just for the sake of great sound combined with portability regardless of whether or not it brings some new voice isolation solution to the table. Out of curiosity, can the bigger SM7B windscreen be used with the MV7? I've been hearing a lot of p-popping in other MV7 reviews.
So much trouble with my new MV7. Its SO quiet and if I turn up gain to compensate the background hum is super loud. Yes, I have tried MOTIV with no luck.
All I want is to hear myself when using the microphone like I’m performing at a concert or something. It seems like the only way sound will come out is if I go back and listen to my recording 🤦🏽♀️
Hey Soren. I've just bought an MV7. When I use the Motiv Desktop app in Manual Mode, the app/microphone adjusts the gain setting without my control which is very frustrating! Frequently, I set the gain to an appropriate level before speaking, but as soon as I talk into the microphone, the gain slider moves all the way back so that I'm almost inaudible. Why is this happening in Manual mode? Is there anything I can do about it or something I'm missing?
@@ShurePerformanceProduction I got the Rodecaster Pro, and used an XLR cable to plug my Shure MV7 into it. Problem: But in Far mode, the volume level keeps raising and lowering/ fading in and out rhythmically. On the RodeCaster Pro, if I select the type of microphone as “condenser”, it’s just too quiet. If I select the type of mic as a “dynamic” mic, its loud enough, but the volume still goes up and down on its own in waves. If I use it in Near mode, it’s fine, but I bought the mic to use it in Far mode. I don’t know if this is a problem on the Rodecaster Pro side, or the Shure MV7 Far side. Can you help?

Please help me out. This is my best setting of mv7. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-mSIlMEHjbqc.html This is not professional at all. I spent hours to fix it. Nothing helped. My microphone seems to focus top much on my voice, that is why it is not so natural. This is what I think
I was really looking forward to this mic as a portable way for me to record demos while on the road, but I could hear your ac and traffic noise a lot through the video. Now I’m not sure about it. I was hoping this would be my solution for external noise while recording in my jeep.
That is going to be a near-impossible job for ANY microphone, much less one for $250. For your application, I would argue that if it is a demo, why are you concerned about noise? Isn’t it just to document a song or idea for you and you alone? If you really need to get rid of noise while you’re in a vehicle, I would instead look to post-processing like iZotope RX8 to clean up the recording.
@@mjrausch I do VO work so I’d like to replicate as much of a clean sound as possible on the demo to make sure I get the jobs I’m applying for. That’s the only reason I’m concerned about the noise level. I was looking into the sm7b but I really wanted something I can connect straight to my phone for those on the go auditions
@@mjrausch this so far still looks like my best option but from the videos I’ve seen the sm7b seems to do better at reducing external noise. I don’t mind paying for the sm7b, but the ability to connect straight to my phone is what makes me not want to get it.
Sure (with the exception of the SM7b) were never renowned for making studio microphones. That said, the 57 & 58 dominated the live music venues for years. Unfortunately by producing this toy USB mic for gamers & amateur podcasters Sure has lost a lot of its credibility especially when they compare it to the SM7b to which it has absolutely nothing in common.
Hi! The ShurePlus MOTIV Desktop App is compatible with Apple Silicon Macs (M1): Big Sur. You can download it here: www.shure.com/en-US/products/software/shure_plus_motiv_desktop
Hi! Yes, you can plug the MV7 directly to your computer. You can then download our free ShurePlus™ MOTIV app for desktop, which gives you access to additional features on your MV7. You can learn how to setup your MV7 here: pubs.shure.com/guide/MV7/en-US
If you're speaking of a DSLR, you are probably going to need some sort of interface to make that happen. Our support team can make some recommendations and suggestions. You can open up a ticket with them at shu.re/contact.
Thanks for making one more people can afford. It's a great product. It really covers the basics for a lot of people. I really like how this is an all in one unit. I use a lot of different computers and need some portability and don't want to drag around boosters cables and other things.
Do you have to lock it on the app when your done setting? because I set mine then they go back its not saving, I also preset them...not sure whats going on......I also use OBS When I recored for my channel so do I also set my settings in OBS or just on my shure mic setup, help cause I dont think mine is working
Can’t get it to show up on iPad Pro. I can hear myself through the headphones. So something is happing. The Sure Motiv app doesn’t appear to recognise it. Can’t get it to work or show somewhere in Cubasis. Disappointing so far. Anyone any ideas?
Hey, so I really like the Near Auto Level but its a bit quiet. Do you know what settings mix would mimic that in Manual mode? So that I can tweak from there. Thanks in advance! I'm just struggling to understand why it sounds so good in comparison.
Why is there a static weird hissing noise when I record with MV7. I've changed the cable, different pc, laptops, Android phone even a different place, nothing changed. Pls help.
Excellent Video - Im having a hum coming from the far option of the MV7 mic. I have the cable all alone in the boom arm and no other devices near the mic. I have it plugged in by usb to the pc. Any way to fix this? Many Thanks
