Thanks for posting Emerson, enjoyed this. What is your role with looking after the cargo? Do you work for the ship charterer or the cargo owner? I did a trip up to Tokyo with Kiwifruit a while ago, loved it. Would love to do another trip some time. Do you need knowledge of forestry/logs/fumigation or maritime qualifications for this role?

Fumigation 😁 nah no need for prior experience. Some is beneficial though. Can't say too much online but it's a Tauranga based company :) thank you for tuning in!

Thanks so much for sharing Emmerson, really amazing video and fascinating ship tour! Is it still possible to hitch rides on cargo and bulk carrier ships these days? I heard until recent years it was pretty common for shipping lines to set aside a few cabins for non workers but heard Covid might of largely ended the tradition! Anyway hopefully the algorithm will start showing your videos to more people as they are really interesting and well put together. Cheers, Stephen

I believe you can still ride on container ships yeah there are companies who specialize in booking it. It won't be your typical cruise ship itinerary. You might board in Singapore go to Korea then over to a few ports in China then you might go to Japan and back to Singapore. Container ship unloading and loading is very fast so there's a limited window for going on shore but you're fed 3 meals a day full ship access including the bridge most container ships have a salt water pool too!
