Three Years of Colouring. Part 1.

I have been colouring in adult colouring books for over three years now. So to celebrate, and because it is one of my most requested videos, I have gathered together about 95% of everything I have coloured to show case my work. I didn't realise just how much I have done so we ended up breaking the series into three parts. Here is part 1. parts 2 and 3 are currently being edited and I hope to have the next one up by the end of next weekend.

Peta. What a wonderful video. Definite walk down memory lane. It was one of your early colouring tutorials that got me started on this ever expanding hobby, and now with my beautiful set of polychromas and colouring books by Johanna Basford and Jessica Palmer, I find the days are not long enough, so thinking I will have to give up housework, to create more time for colouring. Seriously, thank you for your time.

Loved looking at all your beautiful pictures. I know you asked if anyone else sometimes just wanted to color for comfort from being upset or stressed without worrying about the outcome. Yes. It is soothing to just bury oneself in the act of putting pencil to paper and creating as an escape from bad situations or being down. It takes you out of yourself and your situation and immerses you in the relaxation of doing something just for the comfort of the movement of the hands over the page and getting lost in the rhythm of the strokes. Great therapy. Of course, I wish my "therapy" came out half as beautifully as yours. Thanks, Dee

ODP Bothma I find her videos very inspiring. Sometimes when I can't think of anything to color I watch videos like hers. I'm 32 and getting going with the coloring book hobby. I have 12 coloring books and in September plan on preordering Johanna Basford's newest coloring book "World of Flowers" 😅 it's only the 2nd book I've ever wanted to preorder. Love coloring so much now 😆

ODP Bothma: I too am a great fan of Peta's videos. I've only discovered this whole world of video tutorials in the last few months, and am already learning so much. I only discovered adult coloring about 3 years ago now, right after I turned 63! My husband was very artistically inclined (he always did art as a hobby, since he was a child), and he was my main encourager, benefactor, and mentor. He had gotten me all sorts of coloring media and several books, including Jahanna Basford's first three books (Lost Oceans had just come out). In 2016, a few months later, a disaster happened to us and we literally lost everything we owned, including the five or six books he had just bought me the night before. Last year, I had my own personal tragedy when I lost him. So at 66, with his Spirit guiding me now, I have decided to start again. I have way less of everything than I had three years ago. It's okay. I only have two of Johanna's books now, but little by little I'll have all seven, Then onto Maria Trolle, then Hanna Karlzon, etc. etc. Eventually I'll have those Prismas and Polychromas, but for now, I'm good with what I got. Peta's videos are helping to teach me a lot of what I should be doing with my pencils (blending, shading, layering), and we seem to have very similar tastes in artists so I get inspired to see what I may be capable of doing some day. So, ODP and Peta, please keep up your great work and color on, and enjoy!! :-)

It was bought by my boyfriend, he told me to buy the coloring book I would love to have and since I recognized the book Magical City from your channel, I chose it. My boyfriend is also the one who encouraged me to color as a hobby and bought me my very first set of watercolor pencils as well. Oh Peta, watching this video is such a joy! I can't wait for the other two to finish catching up with all the pictures you've done! You asked early on if we also have "easy" books for just those relaxing times when we don't want to get too detailed with the color scheme or techniques - YES, I do! I have a couple mandala pattern books that I use for that - almost exclusively with markers (honestly, pencils can hurt my hands if I color for hours at a time so the markers are a break in that respect as well). I also have some books that are "media specific" including a Christmas book that I'm doing in only gel pens with a VERY liberal use of every special effects (GLITTER!) gel pen I can get ;-) I also loved your budgie near the end - exact same color as "Bird." Bird entered my life when I was about 14 or so. My sisters and I were outside doing chores and this bright green parakeet fluttered down. My sister grabbed a bucket because she was going to try to catch it. Instead, he jumped on her hand! Poor guy (and yes, he was a male) was VERY tame and must have escaped from his home - he lived with us many years and happily learned several little tricks - he was actually MY first real pet since he went with me to college when I moved away from home. I still have books in my library with pages chewed as he would sit and nibble while I was reading. :-) (and of course, I was well trained by him and let him stay there) I'm looking forward to you sharing on the paper masking tape - I will definitely need to get some of that! Also, perhaps some time you could share your techniques for using a fixative to get a nice finish.

Well Hello Peta. I'm so pleased to hear your voice again. I know how life can get in the way of our coloring adventures. (Been watching my grandchildren for my daughter, as she has begun a job where she works nights. Hard not to sleep in my own bed, but she shouldn't have to pay for daycare for 3 children when I'm right across the street.) I am enjoying your completed pages videos. I notice that you are much like myself in that you have some color preferences. There are always going to be certain colors that are going to get shorter much quicker than others. I think that it is too bad that some of the lower, budget friendly, choices on the market do not have a program set up to sell their pencils individually. I like a couple of the "cheaper" pencil sets, and I'm halfway through a couple greens in all of them..(Yep! I like greens as well.) I am looking forward to your next videos. (By the way, I'm one page closer to finished on that book where I'm using a different set of colored pencils on each page. I had started a page using a Loew-Cornell colored pencil set, and I put it aside as I couldn't deal with how bad the set was. I'm trying to finish that page using just that awful set. Not a task I am looking forward to. They are brutally hard, and some pencil sharpeners just can't do a good job of bringing out a point on them. The wood is very hard. The wax base is a grayish color. It's a tint throughout the entire set. I won't recommend them to anyone.) Thanx, Mindy

I am guessing you mean "sorely missed" :) "Hardly missed" is typically interchangeable with "barely missed" (for example: I hardly missed chocolate while I was dieting) but I can see the love in your message too so I thought you might appreciate the correction in this instance because we all love and miss Peta very much :) I am useless with using punctuation and only offer this correction so you can express what you really meant to say :)

@colouringdownunder1072

You are most welcome :) English is the hardest language to learn and even if its the only language you know its still really easy to get words mixed up because so many words sound the same and have different spelling or the meaning of the word changes depending on the way it is used in a sentence. You are doing great with your English so don't feel bad :) Just to help with your English ...."Hardly" means "almost not at all" or "close to a zero amount" so when paired with words like.... hardly missed, hardly worked, hardly ate, hardly drank, drink, hardly there, hardly went or hardly ever. "Hardly" can also mean "not likely" or "its doubtful" or "no" too depending on the context. for eg. Question... Do you think the boss will give us more staff to get this job done? Answer... Pfft Hardly!

I love colouring in these books using different mediums as I don't feel pressured to produce master pieces. Then I have my beautiful expensive books that I only colour in when I'm feeling brave lol. I'm so scared to ruin these books. I keep picking them up to colour in and can't decide what to do then put them down again and pick up my other books to colour.

That was a great trip down memory lane and I really enjoyed it, thank you so much Peta :) Every one of your pictures were stunning and it just goes to show that even if you don't like your own end results that it doesn't mean you failed because other people will still find the results really appealing.
