I made this top over the weekend from a Thrifted men’s shirt from Goodwill. It turned out so good. With my leftover scraps, I made a matching scrunchie.
I make blouses from thrifted men's shirts or my sons' shirts because the fabric is really good quality. I am fond of cotton fabrics. The little ties are so cute. Very nicely done!
So so cute. I saw a lightening fast tutorial of this thrift flip on Instagram and have been wanting to try it since. Having this step by step is super helpful. Thanks!
LOVE the tip about the ties! I actually bought a pattern to make a Ganni dupe and one thing that kept holding me back was that in all the dupes I've seen the ties create a big gap down the front, which is great when you arent super chesty like I am. For me it would border on indecent LOL
I decided this would be my first sewing project and although it’s not perfect im in love and will be wearing it all summer!! Thank you so much for this video and my new found obsession!!1
Can't wait to try this. It's a good style for my figure and a great way to upcycle my husband's shirts that are worn out at the collar but otherwise in good condition.
@@MaddieLynn update : Everything was perfect until the ruffle part ! I didn't had enough fabric so i didn't do this part :( . But it still pretty like this ! I love the result
This turned out so good! I just finished making a top like this a couple days a go and I wish I had sewn on the ties the way you did to eliminate any gaping 😆
A basting stitch is always your longest stitch length without backstitching! I have a video on my channel on my classroom series playlist called how to gather that shows you everything you need to know
Hi there Madison, quick question.. I'm making the top (yay!) and wondering how you finished off the bias binding at the ends of the neckline? There's excess in one shot and then it's neatly sewed in in the next shot. Help! Lol :)
Great question!! I sewed the bias binding around the neck before I folded the center front edged in and stitched them down so when I folded those center edged in the ends of the bias bound neckline got folded in and stitched down…does that answer your question? Also so excited your making the shirt💕
This is so so cute! I have a 40" underbust and a 49" full bust. I feel like it would be too boxy if I divide the full bust in half splitting between front and back. 🤔 wouldn't the back be baggy and the front be... smooshed?
Because this shirt is already a boxy fit there is a bit of ease already built into the overall fit...you could add a bit extra to the sides of the front though and that might give the front more ease?!
Hi!! It might be that my hook doesn’t have a latch (mine broke off)? So if yours has a latch make sure the bottom jaw is out of the way so the hook can get the fabric…also I just hooked straight through the fabric so that might be the other thing for you to try:) Hope that helped
Super helpful video. I am slightly confused by the measurements for shoulders and bust. My shoulder measurements are 8.25 and bust 8.75. Does that mean my arm whole won’t have as pronounced of a curve as yours?
You can honestly draw the arm curve however curved you want! My curve was based on the tshirt I traced but typically I eyeball the arm curve to what looks good. If I were you, I would probably just round up your just measurement to 9.5 or 10 just for ease and to create a curve :) hope that helps
Yes it is! A number of people who have made it were beginners. I also have individual videos about hemming and gathering on my channel that can help make this tutorial even more easy to follow💕
If you go to my channel and go to the playlist "Classroom Series" I have a video showing you how to gather :) I also put the link for the gathering video in the description of this tutorial
Between the bows? If that’s what you mean no…but only because I sewed the ties about 1/2” away from the edge so that when I tie them they overlap and don’t leave gaps
Hi! I have a bigger chest, would you recommend to measure my chest circumference separately and not dividing it in two as you explain? Because my chest will be bigger than my back
Yes, that would be a good personal adaptation for this and you’ll want to make sure you try the button up on and make sure it’s a good oversized fit for you before cutting
Because the bust measurement and back measurement are directly connected in how I made my top, i think if you still did it the way i showed you would be fine because the back would have ease and it would all be based on your measurements
You can cut the sleeve cuff off right above the button placket to make them a bit longer, but that might affect how much fabric you have left to make the ties
@@MissMaria0509 You really don’t alter the sleeves because you are using the old sleeve from the button up shirt, you just shorten them to your elbow and then put an elastic channel in the end💕
