"A little bit TOO nostalgic. " Chuckled hard at that polite turn of phrase :) Buttons are such an easy way to restyle a coat or jacket. I like to use Wooden or dark brown bakelite-like buttons to upcycle military Wool greatcoats and Jackets (think peacoats). They usually come with plastic golden buttons with motifs like anchors, rifles or birds. The plain buttons give it a more utilitarian look that has a timeless feel to it. Having said that my first upcycle was a vintage Olive Drab Australian Army Greatcoat with hideous gold plastic buttons in my size. I replaced them all with 25mm (1 inch) Light-wood buttons that had coconut trees laser etched/burnt into them. I even kept the corporal Chevrons on the soldier and made them wings for some Baby Milo patches i added . Its a bit of steampunk anime-ish garment that people often respond to it positively. I affectionately refer to the garment as the Greatcoat once worn by "Sargento Coco Mico of the Flying Monkey's Division". Probably would do an antagonist counterpart to it in Grey wool with Cog shaped buttons if I found the coat. All my other coats are styled in the usual conservative way.

I bought an overcoat which fit good but not for the shoulders pads. I'm tall so I thrifted a large coat but the shoulders pads are not exact. They drop down. I was wondering how can i fix that?? Thans you so much

Which thrift store did you find yours at? I'm in Canada too and am hunting for a new maxi, hooded, winter coat :) I'm even considering making my own but I'm not a seamstress and it might turn out looking crazy haha

Nothing against you dear but I brought a smile to my face when you allowed Mum to get her coat back which meant that she only let you borrow it. It takes a coat to be very special before I adopt it into the fold but once it’s there and trust me (I’ll even have triplets of a particular style but differing in shade or manufacturer,) and a few coats I may not even wear this season but I am glad to know that they are in my arsonal and if were to become missing would bother me quite a bit

Hi..I have a black wool coat (now too tight around the body) and a nice check wool coat that I want to cut some panels from and insert into the black coat so I can make it bigger and wear it again....any ideas on the makeover?

Aaaaaagh! Don't tell people this! I've been using vintage women's Wool coats from thrift stores as a fabrjc source for jackets of mine.

Its a lovely material but its still WAYYY TOO BIG! its like a 22x coat on a size 12 body!
