Love your videos, I think it’s great that you give us choices of ways to display our silverware. If the silverware is not your cup of tea , then painting it to fit your home rather then it going in a land fill I believe is a better option, and I thank you for showing us different options. I also know that you keep a lot of your silver as well because we see them in your vignettes.
Thank you so much for your note, Maggie! You get me! I do save alot of my pieces and use as silver but some I like to paint. I like options and like them both ways! Thanks for your creativity and seeing the big picture! Sometimes we just have to have fun with our DIY projects!
I love what yoy did with the crates!! So beautful!! I'm on the hunt for more crates!!😂😂 i went to Canton, Texas for Furst Mondays and I found several metal boxes!! My mom gave me on that used to be my dads!! Tfs your fabulous crafts!!❤❤❤
I really enjoyed this video Teresa. I loved how you embellished the little birds nests. So simple and so pretty. And the wood tray stack turned out beautifully.
I really love your creativity and have used your ideas in my crafts. I wanted to say I have a sister in Tennessee and her name Theresa with the "h" and hearing your accent makes me think of her because we grew up in Michigan and she has the accent and I am living in Michigan where we grew up and just get a kick out of listening to my sister Theresa. Anyways, I have made decor projects for my house watching you.😂
Teresa, love all your great projects. Interesting info about the magnet sticking to real silver. Thanks so much for sharing. Blessings to you and Happy Mother's Day coming up next week! 💞
These projects were beautiful. I love that you didn't feel the need to distress everything you worked on, but instead let the beauty of the piece simply shine through. The wood crates were great -- ad as you point out all the time, you could turn them around and add fall or Christmas transfers for a different season. Even the florals you used for spring could be pushed to a winter theme based on what is displayed on the top tray. I think the white florals with black centers look like the anemone flowers I once used in a wedding. Great video!
I love all, but I think my favorite was the transfers on the raw wood. The metal trays turned out good too. I always look for markings on silver. Sometimes it says silver plate on the back. I've been told that if the piece is heavy, it's silver plate. It sure gets confusing.
Teresa, I LOVE LOVE your shows and awesome ideas. I can’t wait until another week to see your next show. I do have to admit that Im getting tired of everything being in a French. I read English and so does everyone who enjoys my crafts. No one I know, can speak French......just sayin!
Sterling has to say it it will either say “ss” or sterling or 925 if it’s plate or should say that too. Sterling will be etched into the medal. Plate is usually a sticker
Teresa there should be an mark on the back of your silver pieces. That should help you identify the maker and whether plated or pure silver. There is also “quadruple plate” silver which is plated but thicker. Some of the plated pieces are electroplated to copper and quite heavy. The copper is actually worth more money than the silver it has been plated with. Bit breaks my heart to see silver whether plated or not, painted. If it is scratched or silver worn off in spots, then it makes no difference. But, WHY paint perfectly beautiful silverplate? It only needs some polish to look like new again. I guess everyone has their preferences, but beautiful silverplate can add so much to a home. Builder grade houses with plain walls take on such glamour if silverplate platters is arranged on the walls or lines the upper edge of a wall where nonexistent crown molding would be. And a patina to silver can add character. I have just one question to all the nat saysrs that say PAINT IT! Would you paint a beautiful piece of ornate quadruple silverplate that is 100 years old just because it is tarnished and needs some polish? The info online is extensive and interesting. Just look it up!
I had wondered about silver plate on copper, but I was given some to sell in my booth, and had been considering keeping it for myself. Since I always keep the good stuff.🤨 And you are right-it is heavier than regular silver plate or even most brass that I have seen.
Hello! Looking up the Maker’s Marks has been a favorite past time for me! I have pieces over 125 years old that are still in beautiful condition that I bought at thrift stores. The history is so interesting. When you look at silverplate that is really worn or scratched, look to see if the corrosion is green tinged. If it is, then the silver has been plated to copper. That green color is the tell tale sign. I often wonder if people just don’t know how to polish silver, there is so much out there. It is not hard to clean and is always beautiful.
Hi. I just can't paint over beautiful wood or silver plate. I know right now it's a fad but after the fad is gone ,and it will go, all these antique wood pieces that are painted over, well , they loose their value. And it's harder to find hard rock maple and so many of these traditional woods. That's just my opinion.
You have the magnet thing backwards--if the magnet does stick, the piece is not solid, or sterling, silver, it has only a coating of silver over another metal (usually copper or nickel). Solid silver is expensive & you'd be unlikely to find it in a thrift store, tho you might find the occasional piece of sterling silverware. Sterling is almost always marked & sometimes plated is also marked--EPNS means it's plated. Both solid & plated are real silver on the surface & will tarnish, but the silver coating can rub off of silverplate. There is a ton of cheap silverplate out there but there is also some beautiful ornate antique silverplate that can be pricey & it would be a shame to paint that---I don't know how you'd remove the paint without removing the silver coating, too. But lightweight pieces aren't worth much, most of the antique plate is pretty heavy. Hope this was a little bit helpful.
Oops, sorry, you were saying it right--if the magnet does stick, it's silverplate; does NOT stick it is possibly solid silver but could still be plated, as you suspected with that one tray. It just means the base metal, under the plating, is not magnetic. I looked at the wrong part of the video, sorry about that!
You wouldn’t find trays made out of real silver in thrift stores cause real silver trays or items would be heavy and very expensive! Most things are silver-plated which means silver is rubbed on them minimally, and I mean minimally! So don’t worry about painting them. Your items always turn out beautifully.
Teresa, of course I love love everything you do or create. I really love the candlesticks, have you sold them yet ? I would really like to buy them, but need to know the price. Thank you so so much. Your stuff is a lot like we done in the eighties. Loved it then, love it now.
I didn’t know the silver test. Thank you. That plate looks amazing. I left my reading glasses in my car. In bed watching your post on my phone. I hurt two of my fingers today. Index on left hand and middle finger on right hand. They are throbbing like crazy. I am trying to keep them above my heart, but that is a bit difficult trying to watch your video. My arms aren’t long enough either, but I can see your beautiful creations with my arms all stretched out and trying to take my mind off my fingers. I have two doors that never got used. My husband designed the base of our king size bed with storage shelves underneath. The doors never got put on before he passed away. The height of the bed was so high, I had to jump on the bed. Me having back issues, I kept causing pain to my back. I asked him to please make me some steps so I could get in bed easily. He said he had asked the guy who built the “box springs/box boards” to build me the the step, but he had no had not built them. The guy passed away. That is all I know to
Teresa, everything is so beautiful and summery! Also, I love the new soft music you had in this video! Some you tubers have such loud music it takes away the beautiful creativity! ❤
I’ll never understand why some of you ask questions like this. It’s her channel, her style. She shares what she creates for her home for her style. If you want to do it in a different color, than do it in your own style. She’s just providing you with inspiration.
I like the rabbit...Love the candlesticks....Love the plate w/ the lavender transfer.....Love the way everything turned out!!!!! Ooooooo Love those crates!!!!
These are all very beautiful Teresa, I love each of them but my favourites were the wooden crates, they look stunning with the transfers on them, I love the way you placed them on the sides. Thanks for sharing with all of us.
I’m really glad you did the crate project because I have had your inspiration picture pinned on Pinterest for awhile. It was fun to see it come to life.
Teresa, your video was so inspiring. Why have I not thought of adding my pretty floral vintage plates outside of my kitchen. Can't wait to refresh my home decor tomorrow! Enjoy your life, Cheryl
Absolutely loved the stacked trays with flower transfers. The white flowers looked real. Seems like they were 3D. Just stunning. All of your artwork is amazing. You can see how much you enjoy doing what you do.
I will say, any silver items I buy, I always polish them. There should be a marking on the bottom of manufacturer. I purchased a very tarnished silver bowl that you couldn't see any marking until it was polished for $2.00. Once I polished I saw the engraved manufacturer name and it was pure silver. I looked it up on Google lens and it was worth $250.00! If nothing more, polish the bottom to find a marking!
One more thing, Paint That Silver if your heart desires! Do what you like, that's the beauty of being an artist. Art is your own creation. Keep up the beautiful work, you know what you're doing and you do it well!😘
Her yard sale was this past weekend. I am getting a booth at Stephens Unique Antiques in Rogersville so you will now be able to purchase things I make or thrift. You can visit the store or he will ship! Thank you❤️
Teresa everything is so gorgeous I love everything you make it's my style and every time I watch your çhannel I say to myself oh I wish Teresa lived next door to me 😂
