What a weekend of thrifting. I went out to my local flea markets looking for antiques and collectables to flip for a profit. It is safe to say the sellers did not disapoint this weekend. The varitey of antiques on offer were so cheap I filled my boots my car and everything else I could carry in. it has been the best buying weekend for me since last year, the antiques and collectables haul was massive, it will be split up, some will be sold on my ebay store, some on my antiques website www.antiquesarena.com and the rest will be put up for sale in my antiques shop in south wales uk.
To give you an idea on just some of what I bought this weekend, I bought a rare 1940s hand painted barge ware tin bath, this is a spectacular find and I love the original painted finish to it. I bought some taxidermy , now I know its not every ones biscuit at the moment however it was so cheap I couldnt leave it there. I bought a large early 20th century boars head a water buffalos horn that was already mounted for me and a small skull with horns not sure what that is off.
I had some mid century coke advertising by way of an old tray, it is rusted but looks amazing with the wear. One of the collectables that I loved this week was a mirror, this mirror had a map showing all the locations of the coal mines in south wales where I live. I love anything coal mining so this was close to my heart but I will still sell it,
one of the best buys was a very rare early 20th century art nouveau pottery vase produced by Royal Dux/ these early examples dont turn up often and to find one that is almost perfect very large and under priced it was a gift.
My least favourite of my buys were the two jewellery display cases, they are showing good profit but for me this job is about the treasure hunt not the profit. They are bread and butter pay the bills and done get me excited.
This is the reason I do this job, I have been an antiques dealer and appraiser for over twenty years and its the chase and the thrill when you dig something spectacular out of a box of junk . It gets the blood pumping and Adrenalin flowing.
There were loads more antiques and collectables through the film all of which came from my flea market or in the uk we call them car boot sales. I bought so much this weekend It will be split in to three films. In the next film will be a load of Chinese which includes a fine carved and hand painted porcelain table screen, a load of bayonets and swords etc. and the final film will be all the jewellery and silver smalls. So remember to subscribe and stick around for the rest of this amazing thrifting haul.
