That butterfly and month book is beautiful. I often find books from the 60’s with the best images and that mat paper that is so nice.

a layer of Rustoleum Frosted Glass Spray Paint turns shiny pages/papers an absolutely perfect matte and doesn't leave a spray paint smell

Totally agree with you. Handel and Gretel is sad and cruel. But if we stop to think about, lots of fairy tales are. Nevertheless, I still love finding the old ones. The illustrations are great and so inspiring. Love all the books you found ❤

LOVE the butterflies & moth book! Glossy pages like the Victorian book make good envelopes--sturdy and take sewing well. Also, you can use clear gesso to dull the shine, or a matte spray. 🙂

I love the moth and butterfly book . . . and as a bookjunky who buys books just to alter them in all kinds of stuff, it would not only be great for the use of pages, but to alter the outside as well . . . would be a total win win find for me and I do understand why you are so happy about it . . . 😉

I wanted to wrap a small gift in pages from a very old softcover harry potter book (the pages had such a great colour) But then i couldnt bring myself to cut it up 🙈 i only tore out the commercial for the next book xD Buz when i am scrapbooking etc. I want to use only real scraps and junk. I dont like the idea of buying new stuff that needs to get shipped etc. There is more than enough to recycle, but yeah.. there is so much beautiful stuff to buy online 🙈

I love the illustrated books. I’ve found some great ones at the $1 table and free books box at my local used bookstore. For the Victorian Scrapbook or any book I’m not quite sure what to do or don’t have the heart to cut into yet, I’ve been making a color copy of the illustration and then using the copy in my journal. I’ve been using them as part of art collages but some of those look like they’d be good for making tags and pockets

I always enjoy your hauls so much, but then I always want to go to the thrift store and buy whatever it is you had thrifted. LOL I loved the Butterfly book as well, but also the nursery rhyme book. I just love those cute images.

Another great free flower photo resource, are catalogs from seed and bulb companies, like Breck's. Just request their catalog and they will mail them to you at least once a year if not more frequently.

Thank you for sharing your finds Johanna! I went to a place the other day about a half hour away where they had a few hundred books, they were free, All donated by people from the area. I was able to get around 20, so super exciting!!! The ones I brought home are all vintage! There are more than enough books on my shelves, at least that's what I tell myself until I see more that I'm just sure I can't live without, lol 🤣

@@JohannaClough In Germany you can find free books all around in villages as in towns. There are special places where everybody can place needless used or even new books and they are completely free to take. It is such a great opportunity for junk journal making. Sometimes you can find really vintage books and often hardcovers in very good shape for making your own covers out of it.

I bought the Victorian Scrapbook book and did an almost total autopsy. I fussy-cut dozens and dozens of images while listening to television. There are a lot of flowers and images of ladies in the book. I cut that book to ribbons and enjoyed every minute. 🌹

I believe I have 2 of those books as well. Here from So Cal. But if you say you paid less than $15 for all of them, that's a STEAL!! Congrats!! Because I pay way more than that here in Vintage and antique shops. They are so pricey!! The only way I get great steals is from Estate sales and sometimes thrift shops, but even old books are becoming valuable here and prices are going way up!! Thats Cali for you!!!

bonjour johanna, de très beaux livres vous avez, cela donne beaucoup d'idée. Demain, il y a un grand vide grenier par chez nous, je pense que je vais chercher des livres pop up, pour mettre dans mes journaux. Le dernier livre est intéressant avec les images vintages, un livre qui donne de bonnes idées, dommage que le papier soit brillant ou glacé. belle journée à vous. isabelle
