GARAGE SALE Deals to Flip for a Profit! | ANTIQUE ESTATE & House Full
We're headed for an antique mall, but an unexpected Estate Sale looms on the horizon in West Louisville, Kentucky! It's a rainy Saturday, so why not take this detour to potential reseller gold? The signs say 60% off after all...
This place has a lot of antique and vintage left, so much so that we start in the garage. 1930s custard glass that glows under our black light is our first find, especially the lampshade we need for a uranium glass bridge lamp! With that happy discovery, we stroll through the garage (occasionally ducking from rockers hanging overhead) while we find Empoli glass, 1910s portrait plates, Victorian furniture and a set of Time-Life Old West books that were prized when new and still have readers today.
Past the concrete planters and the heavy iron door, we venture into the house, where a good variety of antique and vintage items are surprisingly still here! A bag of 1950s Kewpies is just $4.20, and a Roseville vase that Xeno identifies as clematis is a bargain (though the large Moon & Stars jar is not).
Upstairs and downstairs, the house continues to surprise, and we end up with a nice little pile of antique and vintage items, marked down from $219 to just $85! In the process, we get to see a lovely lifetime of collecting find its way to new people who will enjoy and preserve these wonderful remnants of the past.
Here's more of what we find...there's plenty! Including...
Mantel clocks, Gone With the Wind Lamp, Miller's Antiques Guide, Bohemian decanter, 1890s opera lamp, Westmoreland basket, Coke display stand, pink 1980s Fiesta, 1970s Pyrex bowl in holder, bride's basket, piano babies, brass coal shuttle, Limoges porcelain dresser boxes, Herend dresser box, String holder head vase, marble top lamp table, 'In Love' Victorian lithograph, Aladdin lamp, Victorian porcelain ewer, oak 1920s file cabinet, 1880s marbled top sideboard with ornate etagere top, 1920s love seat, 1890s hall stand, mahogany game table, 1950s hairpin leg stool, washstand, etagere, oval reverse painted scene, brass bridge lamp, 1970s afghan, Corelle 1970s floral pattern, Henckel knife block, etc.

If they've thrown it into the garbage it really must be garbage? Not around here! Some incompetent runners throw all sorts of good stuff in the dumpster. I pulled a vintage hard hat off the top once; it was the only thing I found at the sale worth anything at all. We were told no pulling things out of the dumpster, but only after I rescued it. Tough noogies. Gave it to a friend, who eventually gave it to a family member of the original homeowner's who was overjoyed to get it back. It was not supposed to get dumped. Got SILVER out of another dumpster once. It was sitting with the uranium glass.

I agree in most cases! I just know this group well, they would empty a dumpster to find things the client erroneously threw out if they spotted something, they're very thorough. I've done lots of great dumpster diving at estates I've been hired to do, and I have seen good things in the trash at estates where they're less knowledgable

My neighbor left a dumpster in alley once. I had a home in historical district. Walking by it I did grab some old paper out to use in my multimedia art. Upon getting home I realized it was a catalog to custom order the carriages pre automobiles! 100s of pages of designs to pick from to customize your house drawn carriage!!! It to date has been one of my favorite finds. I also tucked up a white cotton fabric for same reason. My mom was a fabric expert. It ended up being a beautiful child's Victorian dress. A lot of damage but we see it to make clothing for 2 China head dolls.

Absolutely love the furniture! I sure wish the prices were that back in 1992 when I bought my Victorian home. My whole house would have been period furniture! As I am maturing (don't wanna say "Getting older than dirt"), I think about moving into a smaller home. I do not believe I want to move those massive pieces to a new place. But I do love what I have. Thx for sharing ❤

I understand, Victorian was a lot more costly then but there were also homes of that era being renovated! Seems like most have already been now, thus demand (and prices) for the furniture aren't as high now

I'm with you.. I also had a 3 story Victorian home during that time. Unusual my rooms were very large for the Era. It was the bankers home. I was 3 owner. I decorated different styles due to its size. My parlor living and library was all Victorian. But dinning room and kitchen area was early American primitive Pine furniture and such.. well.. my lighting was cranberry glass chadallers because I had 3 matching ones. The chandelier in the kitchen though was cast iron country store lighting.. it all went together pretty well. I also had extensive native American items I had to match in as my step dad would drop off pottery and rugs between customers. I would put up my quilts and place his rugs there. We were pickers before anyone knew what a picker was .. unless it involved your nose.. lol..

Good evening, George! Mother would've been all over those portrait plates. She really likes any portrait china pieces. I like the old bridge lamps. There've been several times I've seen them at a local Goodwill for $5.00 or $10.00. If I had somewhere to put them, I'd buy everyone I see for that amount of money. I liked that round oak table the green glass candle holders were on. I have one like that, with the rolled Empire feet...not too fond of the claw feet ones. I've noticed, for me, the ones with the rolled Empire feet aren't as easily found as the claw feet ones, either. There looked like a monk pattern milk pitcher on top of the shelves where the Roseville "Clematis" vase was. Those really catch my attention. I have one by Sterling China. I'd love that opera lamp...if it hadn't been monkied with and electrified. If the font wasn't drilled, it could be returned to its original condition, though. I would've had to have investigated that. From the way the wiring was run, it looked like the font was likely drilled, though. That cast iron basket of flowers doorstop was a nice find! I like those Victorian ornamental ewers. Mother has one with green hobnail glass in it. I like the Victorian furniture. At those prices, I think I could redecorate a bit 😉 All that metal shelving would be great to use in a garage, if they were selling it. There was likely a ton of really good items there the first weekend, but there were still some really good finds for the 60% off sale! Thanks for the take-along!!!
@TheAntiqueNomad
@TheAntiqueNomad Год назад
The portrait plates were so precious for so little! I do like good quality portraits. Bridge lamps at that price would be filling my world! I prefer rolled Empire feet to claw feet, interestingly they are desired more in your area and less so up north, where a lot of Empire furniture still lives. I do like the monk pitchers, think that one was a Willets Belleek. I didn't look closely to see how the electrification was done on the opera lamp, since I wasn't buying it...it makes a big difference to me though. Weren't the prices on the Victorian furniture crazy cheap? It's hard to believe, I feel like the quality will bring it back respect someday. Thanks for shopping along with me!
