i go through the womens and mens sections and generally my size and look for colours/patterns and fabrics i like cause the racks tend to be so crowded. the book section is cool too

Yeah, the best way to make thrifting LESS confusing (TOO many options), is to have a list of what you NEED. (color swatches are helpful). Sometimes wearing what you hope to match up with, as i find i tend to buy things that go with what i'm wearing....which may NOT be my goal.
ALSO, only buy what you LOVE. It's too easy, when things are SOO cheap, to buy BECAUSE it's cheap... only leaving you with more things, that aren't QUITE right, for you. Thrifting, there are ALWAYS, more, better options, waiting somewhere else, or on ANOTHER day. Be brutally selective. Just ONE truely fabulous item, or PERFECT STAPLE, can make the trip more than worthwhile. Not just for your wardrobe, but your wallet. More is only better...when it IS better. Frankly, huge, fabulous hauls DO happen...but they are not the norm.Try to weed out the lesser items, in your pile. Again, ask, do i LOVE THIS. Add one or two, that challenge your boundaries...a mistake Thrifting, is not a financial tragedy, like retail would be. And you MAY be pleasantly surprised that what you thought impossible, is exactly right... Being A LOT OLDER THAN YOU...i know these things, first hand. Frankly, i would rather be young. Have fun with this. Best of..
