Add a new state to our list! We're headed from our New York vintage jewelry buy to the Portland Rose City Vintage Market, and our first stop is at two estate sales just down the street in Glen Rock, New Jersey! Will the Garden State prove fertile or futile in our quest to find good antiques and vintage our collectors want?
This seems to be a 1950s-60s neighborhood, and we're definitely seeing vintage at the first estate sale house! No one knows I'm here, so I hope to quietly find some good bargains without tipping my hat that I know a few things. A Scottish scarf, some white metal patio furniture, a Jarts game and a gathering of other fun items at this well-organized sale are offered at prices we just can't leave behind!
Down the block, a smaller house tight with objects reflects a different estate sale strategy, where items are not priced unless over $100, and the rest is set at the cashier. Will our strategy of piling a Harlequin 1930s casserole dish high with other vintage goods get us a cheap lump sum price? When we add a scarce Fenton black rose vase and obscure Studebaker emblems to the mix, we know we're onto something here, especially when the bill is just $60!
Both homes and both styles of conducting an estate sale have their merits, and we head out on our 3000 mile drive feeling excited to take these goodies from East to West for our collectors! Which sale was the most profitable? You'll have to watch until the hippos come home to find out!

Hi George! The coin changer could be from a retired bus driver. I worked for transit for 20 years, my grandfather for 40 years, I have his antique coin changers. They are getting harder to find. ❤
@Brabronacus
@Brabronacus Год назад
That was my first thought as well
@jael6048
@jael6048 Год назад
@@BrabronacusI loaned them to the company I worked for as they have an area where they display years of memorabilia from the growth of the company. They had no coin changers though! My grandfather worked for Metro in Seattle and most bus companies transitioned to fare boxes around the same time so I let them display my grandfather's coin changers. Its better than sitting in a box right? A bit of history to be enjoyed. The earlier one is much heavier and clunky than the later one. The one George found looks to be a younger version, just before they transitioned to fare boxes. Of course it could be from a carnival worker or anyone in a job making change on their feet as well. A neat piece of history. 😁

The only problem with no prices on things is they can charge what they want and I have seen people walk out after they get up to the register without their stuff. Which in turn means everything they might have wanted is not sitting on the table for someone else to put back into stock somewhere. A hassle for sure. Also, when there are no prices I just tend to LOOK only. Have a great day and safe travels

Nice estate sales George. Those had far more interesting items than the ones I’ve been to lately. BTW…the head stopper you got for $9 is Italian not German. It’s ANRI, which is still in business. I would estimate that your stopper was made in the 1930s. By the 1950s, the figures were more blocky looking, by the 60s, the heads were plastic. Thanks for taking us along.

Good evening, George! There was a sword hors d'Oeuvres set, at the start, that I liked. That Sirocco mirror looked like one mom got with S&H Green Stamps, in the 1960s. There was an aluminium stovetop percolator there I would've had to get. I've been looking for a nice one. I liked that pyrography ink blotter. I really like the "Old Country Roses", Royal Albert china. I have a tea set in the pattern. Hmmm...I wish they had collected the Hull Green Drip...and had the saucers 🙃 There were some hole saws there I would've had to get. I could use those. If I had space to display it, I'd like to have one of the Jarts sets. I have a complete set of the Nancy Drew books, among a few other sets, and I'm working on completing a set of the Dana girls books. I have a Mae West and a W. C. Fields lamp. That Marx Bros. lamp was a fun one. I liked the Mae West, "Belle of the Nineties", framed piece. The table the blown blue glass was on was really pretty. That was surprising about the wind-up clock being a hard sell. Those are the ones I prefer. Both of those estate sales looked really fun to shop. Thanks for the take-along!

I’m glad these things are still around and someday will be enjoyed again. And of course we had Dansk and a lot of it. Lol. I still have and use the salad bowl I grew up w. Good memories in this video. Those Nancy Drew books aren’t that valuable. They have the yellow spine so they came out starting in the early ‘60’s. The ones to get at the first ones written in the 30’s. The language was later changed in them so if you can find first editions then you’ll have the real originals.
