Welcome back to another episode of our series That 70s House. When Becky first moved into this house, one of the first things she tackled was the dining nook. You might remember it - the striped couch she used actually went viral on TikTok, and had lots of people divided on if they liked it in the space or not. Later on, in a vlog over on The Sorry Life, she ended up switching out the sofa to one that was better suited for the area BUT she definitely did not get rid of the striped one…that $50 marketplace steal from the '60s is too iconic to part with. So in today's video, she figures out a way to style it as a faux conversation pit in her living room.

For anyone with a similar issue of couch cushions not staying put- if you don’t want to/can’t make a whole new armrest, you can use heavy duty Velcro strips to attach and secure the bottom or back of the cushions to the base of the couch or chair. Obviously it’ll be more secure if you sew it onto the cushion covers but I think some Velcro come with an adhesive back.

Instead of another big round light (since you already have at least two in the same room from what I can tell) I think this would be the absolute perfect opportunity to try a really low hanging light like the ones from the 70s Ikea catalogue video. There's rarely a chance to try something like that but here it could work really well.

Becky is slowly becoming my favorite "Sorry Girl" because her ideas are simplistic, stylish, and creative. Every project you do inspires me to get up and try making something new from objects that are easily attainable. I’m LOVING this area of the house!! This might be a weird suggestion, but I think the couches should be closer together and centered with the shelf bay that’s one more to the left. This would make a more intimate hang out space and would separate it from the living room just a bit. This would also offset the focal point of the shelving unit which could be nice. I saw someone else’s suggestion to use a low hanging pendant lamp over the coffee table and I think that would definitely go with the cozy, conversation pit vibes! I am obsessed with the direction this space is going!!!

@cruelaz

yeah because the fabric is already so busy I dont think you would get away with mending it or patches sometimes that can look rather nice but highly dependant on the style and fabric of the sofa. you didnt see how used the sofa was when it was in the breakfast nook now it reminds me of the couches friends had in their basements, garages or garden sheds. good enough to still sit on for a party and not problematic if you spill on it haha

maybe not rings to compete with everything else, but more texture with paint, on the outside, to sell it more as a planet (if you are going for it) would be so, so cool! For a more nuanced spacey look, adding another globes, but smaller and on different heights would also do the trick! as a side note, the painting not only is perfect for the period, color and size but also the name? PERFECT for a convo area!

potentiallty for the light fixture you might have been able to use an airbrush to get a more even interior coating. Anytime I have tried the thin and swirl method it never quite works like I intend it too. An airbrush with really thinned white/cream colored paint and a lot of very thin layers might have created a more even texture. I actually like the planet vibes of the light personally though :)

LOVE how the space turned out ! The couch arm idea was brilliant, super functional and adds little interest without taking away from the couch, the art work and the room styled with the coffee table. I think paper lanterns like the ones from your previous home in the staircase hung lower would be a great alternative as well since you have the disco ball and other round fixtures in the same space. The lanterns would give it that cozy and intimate vibe especially if it’s going to be used as a “conversation pit” 🧡🤎🤍🤎🧡

Velcroing (a verb) the cushion to the base wouldn't be more effective?

I love how the light turned out. You should totally add a ring around it so it looks like saturn. That would be soooo cool. I also love what you did to the couch, I love the bookshelf, the art piece, the table, everything! It's amazing
