I shop at thrift stores, garage sales, rummage sales. When I get the clothes home I wash them, let them dry in the sun outside and then steam press the clothes from the inside. We never know if people were dirty or how long they had it stored in the basement where there might be mold, bacteria or even people having a skin problem. Disinfect everything right away and don't put on pants in the store, just get the measurements unless you have leggings on so nothing rubs on your skin. I'm not a germaphobic but you need to be careful with second hand items. I do enjoy shopping and finding treasures, I'm not a hoarder, but I enjoy getting great deals, knowing that the item is extremely expensive and I get it for under $5. Knowing that I could pass some items onto a friend, family member, neighbor, etc. It's a fun hobby! Your style and tips are so helpful, thanks so much for this video.
She hit most of the points to successful thrifting. One I’ve learned….pay the price if you really love something. I wear almost exclusively second hand clothes but every now and then I will hit the retail shops to see how much say a Liz Claiborne tank top sells for (even on sale). So $6 for a well made tank for one that Macy’s asked $70 for. They can keep asking… Also during Halloween check the DIY costume area for exquisite vintage pieces. Also those who sort don’t realize that 30 year old shoppers consider 90s items vintage. I consider vintage 50s but I’m in my 60s.
Sooooo thrilled that you started a channel. I’ve been binge watching BJones style and love the episodes that you are with her. I’ve been thrifting for over 40 years back when it wasn’t popular. My Dad used to call me “Second Hand Rose”. Sending hugs from Canada 🤗🤗.
I'm so glad I finally did it! I always have so much fun shooting with Beth. I love that you've been thrifting for so long. I started back in middle school before it was "cool" and never stopped!
Contempo Casuals was THE spot! I was too young to shop there but loved going in there with my older sister dreaming of the day when I could rock their threads.
I also love thrifting baskets. I also love getting pretty vases for when I gift flowers or Pyrex pans for when I give a meal or pie ( new mom or housewarming).
I totally agree with you - about having a list, as well as putting stuff in your cart that your thinking about on the way by. You can always decide to not get it; however, it can be difficult to relocate that item you keep thinking about (or completely impossible when you see someone else walking around with that item...). :)
Great tips! And if you know your style and what you love regardless of trends, buying out of season is good advice. I thrifted 3 wool coats a few summers ago for very inexpensive and I wear them every winter. And Contempo Casuals! My favorite outift in 9th grade came from there. Cropped sweater and floral leggings even though my mom was so confused why anyone would want a long sleeve sweater that shows a little midriff. lol
lol! were we even teens if our moms weren't confused about our outfit choices?! i've found some of the best sweaters and coats in the heat of summer for SO cheap! I'm all about buying when I spot something as opposed to when it's trendy or in season!
I'm so glad I stumbled upon your channel today it was a pleasure shopping with you for great items. I will be visiting the store soon. Thanks for sharing and love the swing coat and houseware.
Great tips, love that trench on you, and I also need all the clothes all the time! I love to plan ahead as well- thrifting is my jam also! Love Carrie Bradshaw's style ❤ GV blazer and suede coat both looked good on you Like: shell catch all
I'm wearing men's camo shorts right now! I love pairing them with a girlie girl top and sexy sandals. And the pockets all over the shorts double as a wallet or purse! Men's shorts rock and so do you!
Yes, I remember casual corner... 😊.. yep.. I've had trauma over the thrift I left behind... I'm kinda bummed.. I am constipated editing my closet.. very small closets plus I'm a full time caregiver for my elderly mom.. I rarely go anywhere exciting these days but I thrifted a red plaid wool vest last Christmas.. I styled it awesomely w a leather skirt and a chambrey shirt.. it looked really good.. I wore it once and recently decluttered it.. sigh... Your blue plaid vest reminded me... I'm short.. I'm still on the hunt for a trench that I don't swim in.. I know I can buy one but as you said , it's more fun to thrift!
That rattan day bed! Great tips and presentation, i’m subscribing to see what else you come up with. how about try on’s of your finds at the end? Love your style!
Hi Annette. Great video. A big fan of gaudy homewares myself! That lamp and the blue one behind it looked really interesting...also the red and white striped pot around 10:00 ❤. Was wondering if you could do a video about jewellery? Stacking rings, layering necklaces, mixing brooches etc? My necklaces always seem to tangle when I wear them, and I was wondering if you have any tips on how to fight the tangle? ❤❤❤
This was an excellent video, and I really enjoyed it and would like to be a new subscriber, but I have to be honest I really really dislike the music it’s enough to make me not come back. I really hope you could make a possible other selection? It’s just overstimulating and irritating lol
I wish I had the patience to dig through mountains of clothes, but I just don’t. I would rather pay full price for what I like and just have less of them. Also, I don’t have an easy to fit body type. However, I have found gems for furniture and accessories at consignment stores.
Great video and valuable information on thrifting, so please keep the content coming. I have to say the music between your tips is annoying 😂 and a bit of a headache. You don't need it. As we watched your video, we enjoyed watching you search and hearing the hangers shift about in the store. Thanks ❤️
Like your pointers of thrift shopping but the music is super annoying. If you want to play music, that is fine but just not that loud obnoxious kind of music. Can't you choose music that is not so awful? It is really terrible to listen to even for a few minutes through your video. Maybe choose more calming music or something? Of all the music out there, surely you could select some other less intrusive music.
Hi Suzanne thanks for the feedback. I responded to other comments that the music on other videos is less loud and a bit more cheery. I’m always trying something different including music on my platform. Thanks!
Camo is a staple and used like a neutral in many wardrobes. Even when it's not a super big trend, it's always going to be used by a sufficient amount of people to not look dated (depending on the piece and how you style it, of course)
