It looks beautiful! Your husband is very talented and the two of you put together a wonderful space. It’s nice to have a place where you can enjoy doing laundry.
What a lovey basement space. I love your clean and minimalist style. It is fun to share your joy in creating something beautiful! And what a gift from the Lord to have a husband who can make your dreams into reality.
Love, love the complete room. I can imagine your beautiful family making good use of it. I love the rug, the mutted colors are perfect. I would, however, change the curtains to 100% linen... I think that would tone down the colors even more. You and your husband are an inspiration!
I have never seen a more beautiful laundry! Would never imagin its in a basement! Kudos to your imaginative hard working hubby. And your decorating. Wow!
My Dad was an Engineer at Ford. Living near Detroit, most families had someone involved in the auto industry. On weekends he worked on our basement and it took him two years! He put in a bar, gas fireplace, storage cabinets, moved the laundry tubs (cement) across the basement and built the laundry room next to the furnace. The laundry shoot was in that space too. OH!! And he built a laundry basket to catch the clothes! Made of peg board and moved about on wheels. Such a talented craftsman. Our basement was scary too before he transformed it. We had a fruit cellar that was by the bar and housed our old Frigidaire fridge. The living area with the fireplace was cozy. I have my memories of helping my Dad by being his gopher for his coffee! LOL!! I learned a LOT by watching him. I love your basement. It is so your style and your husband certainly can create your vision. It is all just lovely!
Oh my goodness this sounds so so beautiful and what amazing memories! It really makes such a difference having it finished. I also would love to have a laundry shoot! ❤
Such a wonderful space. I absolutely LOVE your grandfather's rug. It has sentimental value, is the right size and adds pizazz. If I were you, I'd put a few more touches of blue in the space, to tie in the blue of the rug. Don't be afraid of the colour. A grey blue is not shocking pink, lime green, or pumpkin orange. Your husband is amazing, meticulous and very creative. What a great team you are together!
Andrea, I think this new area is absolutely sensational! Every detail is so well thought out, warm, cozy, and inviting. How blessed you are to have such a remarkable husband who can do everything! Aww, your grandpa's rug is so perfect! How thrilled he would be to know that it is being used by your family in such a prominent location! The size, colors, pattern are tailor made for you! Doing laundry here really would be fun! Your videos ooze love, family values, and everything a loving home should be, Andrea! Linda
Absolutely love the rug! The color is beautiful and really makes the basement! Your basement is stunning. I love it...the cupboard, the gingham, the rug...all the little touches! You're very blessed with such a lovely laundry room! Tell Mike he is awesome!!
Oh Andrea, it is stunning! I love everything. I think of your style as serene, not minimalist. Your grandfather's rug is perfect. It reads neutral. I can go on and on, but I will spare you. And yes, you husband is a very talented man. Congratulations on your beautiful new space.🙋♀️
Your laundry room turned out beautiful. You have a talent for decorating and your husband has a lot of talent in construction. You both did a beautiful job with the whole house.
I love, love, love this laundry room! I would absolutely leave the little fabric panels. I think they match your style and home so well. Y'all did such a great job! So much thought and love was put into this space and it shows.
Hi Andrea! Wow! What.a beautiful space! Again, Mike did a phenomenal job on all the carpentry! I am amazed at how talented he is for someone so young. That's called a gift and he certainly has it. You have made it so "homey" with all of your exceptional creative decorating skills! If I were you, I would send this into a magazine like Country Living or one of the others out there. I really believe that more people should see what a great job you both did. It would be an inspiration to many others out there! You two just never cease to amaze me with your talents!
So pretty! That’s my dream laundry room and I have that exact wood scrub brush and clothespins, jars, powdered detergent and powdered bleach in jars with a scoop, natural woven laundry baskets , and a wall hung sink ready to install. Genius ceiling idea! The minimal vibe looks clean and calm… you’re somewhat of a minimalist, finding beauty in pale but warm beige and off white colors with white for some contrast. Consider a small metal dish for pocket finds and an old wooden ironing board ❤ Love the drop leaf table idea as a narrow island and folding space ( I have one). Do you have a clothesline? I’m putting one in the yard. Maybe a “ Lost Socks “ clothespin sign or board.
When we downsized six years ago to our little cottage,my sentimental Hoosier cabinet didn’t fit in my new kitchen or dining area. Since I wasn’t going to give it up,I put it in my basement next to my washer and dryer. I have all of my laundry/ sewing/ironing stuff in it with the same glass canisters. It actually turned out to be super practical as the large, shallow (silverware?) drawer fits all of my thread laying down so you can see the colors and my sewing machine sits on one end of the enamel counter top, which is so roomy when it’s pulled out. My basement isn’t finished but it’s not scary,(somewhere in between your two photos.) and I love how the Hoosier works down there.🙌🏻
A table would be GREAT for so many uses! Folding laundry, crafting, eating quite time for mom! I can see a long shallow basket with a handle on top of the hutch. So happy for you.
Oh my word, I love the basement! I think the baskets on the pegs are perfect there. Your hubby is truly a blessing to you! Laundry is my favorite household chore and it would be so comforting and relaxing to do in this space! As always I love seeing what you do to your house. It is all gorgeous! Blessings!
You both did an amazing job pulling it all together. We had a similar situation in our basement, and had it refinished into a laundry, craft and exercise space. It took 3 years of planning and sourcing; an old executive desk that used to be in a law firm, a secretary desk from a vintage shop & a floor to ceiling wood and glass cabinet from the 1940’s that was used in the medical office of Endicott Johnson - a shoe company in my area. Hubby had to cut the top off the desk to fit it down the basement stairs and reassemble! I completely understood it when you said you love doing laundry now. Everything is clean, organized and pretty. The best thing is it’s easy to keep that way, too! Enjoy your new space to the fullest!
Wow Angela, what a beautiful space you and your husband have created. You two are the dynamic duo. Love the decorating, its so quaint and clean looking. Many many blessings to your family🙏🏼🌷
I love how the basement is turning out, it's beautiful. You have added so much value to your home. I would love to see an over all layout of your basement as to how it flows. Love the colors and flooring you guys choose. I also think having a space for guests to make coffee and heat up something separate from the kitchen is a fantastic idea.
This is the prettiest laundry room I’ve ever seen. You are one blessed lady. I have a closet n let me tell you it’s no picnic. Love all the paint colors n the hutch looks like it was meant to be. Just stunning.
Bravo! Absolutely outstanding! This space is a complete winner. This is the best that you and your husband has done. I can't find anything wrong with the space it just is so beautiful and functional and the sink is fantastic and your grandfather is rug and having the countertop to work on showing off some of your fines the crocs the little washboard little baskets the wooden pegs this is perfection. For the smaller older basements that are dark and dingy this is the number one prime example of what can be done. I am so excited for you because you deserve this and I know that it was a fun space to decorate. Mike did amazing work. Everything just has come together so nicely and I can't stop watching this video and how beautiful a space can be from such a dingy looking, yes scary, basement. Great job! Thumbs up to you and thumbs up to Mike and keep going. Make a greenhouse or a garden room outside and stay with that path because you're so good with this style and it does work for you. Congratulations on the new room and of course in a beautiful space like that, you should be excited about being down there and working. Let's make it fun.
Oh my goodness Denise, this was such a sweet comment to read through, thank you so much! I am so thankful for my husband and his determination and so happy to finally have this finished space 😊😊
By the yard it’s hard by the inch it’s a cinch. Haven’t heard that quote for years. Lol. 💕 Mom of 3 grown sons here. We made our basement closet under the stairs where we kept all the sports equipment and boys stuff too. Hung a rod for winter coat storage and a shelf for boots etc. I hated my laundry room and 5 years ago my hubby redid it for me and now I LOVE IT! Love doing laundry. I also have open shelves, a large sink, 2 drying racks my hubby built and I have an old hutch where I display my vintage linens and sewing and laundry paraphernalia. Also pegs to hang towels to dry when coming in from the hot tub. It’s so practical but beautiful. Wish I could post pics here to show. I like the rug. The curtain fabric compliments beautifully.
I was looking forward to your laundry room reveal and was not disappointed. I think a drop leaf table would be perfect in that multi functional space. What a great idea. ❤️
This is SUCH a hopeful video!!! I have a scary basement right now as we live in an early 1900’s farmhouse. I stand down there and work on laundry and think, “there’s got to be a way to make this space beautiful?!” And this video is so encouraging! I can’t WAIT to show my husband.
I enjoy watching the finished projects!!! In my opinion, we don’t have to watch you decorate. Do what’s easiest for you!!! I LOVE IT!!! It’s BEAUTIFUL!!!😊❤
Beautiful! On the side counter cabinets, you might consider painting the cabinet base showing behind the decorative cabinet legs a darker color, such as the floor gray, to further the illusion that the decorative legs are holding up the cabinets, and highlight their pretty shape. Just a thought, but not necessary--it all looks lovely!
Andrea, this space is so charming!! Both you and Mike did an amazing job. It’s definitely a good reminder that projects take time and not to get discouraged when something takes multiple years to be finished.
I too love and appreciate how other folks decorate their spaces, without necessarily feeling as though I ought to copy it/them. Isn't that one of the joys of decorating?!
...yes. Hope!..together, Andrea, you and your husband have made an esthetic home ..... id love to spend time in your home....and, your boys have a rich heritage in the making.. .blessings!
You both have done a remarkable job. And it is absolutely lovely. I think it is gratefulness that is the key in any home improvement . No matter where we start, being grateful for what one has at the moment gets us to the right mindset and when things progress and we see more improvements, are hearts are so much more grateful. You both truly have shown that gratefulness…..oh and by the way, I think I’m coming over with a few loads😂
I would sure love to do laundry if I had your warm laundry room. Gee you could have a friend over and share a cup of coffee down there😊. You and your husband really did a lot of work and persevered through it all…. I love your grandpa’s rug. I have seen other things you got from your grandpa…..what good taste he had and still has in Heaven. 🥰
Oh Andrea, I love the way it all turned out!! You are so blessed to have a husband that can do so much carpenter work! My husband is more of a tech guy, he will try to make things for me but really doesn't have the right tools, but he can certainly hang things I buy and find studs in the walls! He can make a mean wooden box though, LOL! I have been thinking of using an old washtub, too, in my laundry room. The plumbing would be tricky since the hole in the tub is much smaller than current day sink pipes. I am hoping to find a plumber that can come up with a solution. I use one of my washtubs in the garden to wash up my homegrown vegies before bringing them in the house and another one I'll fill with water to water my potted plants around the patio.
Wow! Your laundry room came out amazing!! I love that you did it all yourselves without hiring people that would cost so much. You’re so blessed to have such a talented husband who is willing to take on a challenge and bring your dream to life. Your sink is gorgeous and it’s perfect for so many reasons; thinking it would be great to soak items when trying to either get stains out or even to whiten. I’m always looking for bowls big enough to soak items..ugh! I’m not fortunate enough to have a laundry area, my washer and dryer are a stackable in a closet off of my kitchen. It’s fine, but what wouldn’t give to have a homey and comfy space like yours. Your grandfather’s rug is perfect there! Try to keep it! It goes so well and even better has sentimental meaning. It all looks so good, be proud! And special shout out and kudos to your hubby! Keep up the good work! The bench reminds me of one my grandma used to have. Definitely keep it there, it’s the perfect spot, especially since I don’t think it will hold up in the outside elements (my grandma’s did not😢). You can always add storage baskets under the bench too. Keep sneakers, flip flops, garden gloves, winter gloves and hats, whatever you want to. The end results was worth the wait! Bravo to you!!!! 🎉 👏🏻
Such a great functional and beautiful space now. Your Mike is alot like my husband he can do anything too. Your very lucky he's so handy. You will enjoy this laundry area so much.
Your husband is very talented to make your visions for a space become a reality. The bench is a perfect addition to the area and will be a perfect spot for your adorable sons to take off their boots. Thanks for sharing.❤
I like the inspiring poem at the end. I say there are two kinds of people when it comes to overwhelming situations. There are those who are so stymied, they have no idea how to even begin, so don’t. Then there are those who realize that if they simply begin by tackling small portions at a time, the overwhelming situation will eventually be overcome!
Such an amazing transformation. Your husband has a gift in his carpentry skills!! I love the colors of everything. The room also seems so bright and cheery! I wouldn't mind doing laundry in this space. Your home is so lovely and cozy. I noticed the sink right away and it is beautiful. You both make a great makeover team! Thank you for sharing!
Wow. It's such a gorgeous space now. I would never be able to have a vision like you both do. It was worth the hard work and years of waiting for sure.
