KOB/MULLOWAY SMASH.
Hi everyone, this week I head to the Overberg and meet up with Markus & Jan from @TheFishingMob. We heard there were a few fish around and we were rewarded for braving the insane wind. The kelp was a nuisance and cost me quite a few fish, when they got stuck in the kelp. I could see the Kob/Mulloway "waving" it's tail at me to say goodbye.
Silver Kob, is what we mainly catch to the West of Struisbaai, minimum size is 50cm & 5 per person per day. These Kob/Mulloway, are very similar to the Dusky Kob, except they are more slender than the Dusky Kob.
They are ambush predators and have a very sensitive lateral line and exceptional smell, preferred bait for us to catch Kob/Mulloway is Chokka, Fish baits and live baits. The main baits we use is Chokka as it gives off the right smells and we can build the bait in such a way that it gives off decent vibrations, when building tentacle's on the bait.
Tackle used:
Loomis & Franklin Shockwave 36TON HMG 14ft
Boss Slick Braid 80lb
Elbe 100% Flouro Carbon .70mm, the same for hook snoot.
BKK Offset Heavy Circle 8/O
