Sir/ Madam Just a simple query regarding blood donation guide as per NBTC unrelated to the above topic 1. Highest hemoglobin accepted for blood donation ?? 2. Since autoimmune conditions like SLE, Rheumatoid arthritis etc cannot donate blood , what about vitiligo? Since vitiligo may be associated with other autoimmune disorders. 3 .What about thyroid disease if under controlled with medication?? Hypo/ hyper/ medication if thyroid are permanently deferred as per NBT GUIDELINES. Anticipating your valuable response🙏🙏🙏 Thank you

Q 1. The highest acceptable hemoglobin level for blood donation may vary as per your respective SOP. However, in accordance with the WHO 2016 ( Myeloproliferative neoplasm) guidelines for diagnosis of Polycythemia Vera , a Hb level of > 16.5 gm/dl in males and >16 gm/dl in females is considered as a major criteria for diagnosis of Polycythemia Vera. Therefore, acceptable Hb levels maybe kept below the same for the donors of the respective genders. Q2. Donors with vitiligo may be accepted provided there is no active disease and they are not under medication for the same at the time of donation. Q3. In case of Thyroid disease : Accept if benign disorder and euthyroid (with or without treatment) Defer if under investigation for thyroid disease, If hyper-or hypo-thyroid, or with a history of malignant thyroid tumors defer permanently if history of thyrotoxicosis due to Graves’ disease. (Ref WHO Blood Donor Selection 2016).
