Throttle Adjustment, Honda Mower 

I have used your different videos, from the transmission, carburetor, to this one. Your help as allowed me to keep my 15 year old mower running like new. Very much appreciated you taking the time to do this. Great job!

Thank you for the video. This was very helpful, but I took it a step further: I started the engine and set the throttle to full. I only recommend this if your mower has a clutch for the blade and the blade is NOT engaged. Then I made the throttle adjustment while the engine was running and adjusted both nuts. I tightened the inner nut and the loosened the outer nut while listening to the engine if was increasing or decreasing in power. Loosing the outer nut gave it more power. I had to loosen the outer nut almost all the way to the edge of the screw to get full power. Then I tightened the inner nut. Your video helped in that I didn’t even know where to make the throttle power adjustment. I’ve owned this mower for several years and after this adjustment is the first time that I’ve ever got full power out of it. The factory setting seems to be underpowered. Unless the builder set it up this way from where I bought it. The grass cuts way easier under full power especially if it’s a little tall. Also, the self propel works nicer too.

Thank you for the invitation to let you know what we'd like to see! I have two of these engines, one on this mower, and one on a woodchipper. The carbs are a nightmare to remount on the machine. When time comes to adjust the cable here I will certainly revisit. I would like you to show how the linkages go on a machine with both mixture and choke (i.e. not purge bulb), i.e. how they're connected to the governor and control plate. I have a Kawasaki FJ180V (on a three-wheel OREC SH61H brushcutter). Thank you!

I have a HRX217VKA. this model has automatic choke. there are no levers on the handle for engine speed or choke. I am almost positive that it runs too fast and the governor is also out of adjustment. Can you possibly do a video on this model? And can you do a video on changing the hydro oil in the tranny? Your video on removing and replacing the tranny is by far the best on RU-vid and thanks a lot for that.

Can you explain on the throttle lever why I don’t get the feeling when I’m in choke vs fast anymore. Before I could feel a release coming out of choke. I don’t anymore. Is there an adjustment I need to make? My mower is a Honda hrx 217

Thank you. I do have two questions: 1st: What if idle is low (lever on low), and mover dies? There must be an additional setting for minimum speed/idle? 2nd: Where did you find the book to download with all the instructions? I can't find anything related to shop/service manual, only owners manual...

Good explanation, but would've helped if the choke/throttle linkage levers had been blown off so we could clearly see the clearance points.

Can anyone help. My throttle handle keeps slipping back and obviously slowing down. Any ideas ? Thank you.

I'll have to check that on mine! Now, I actually came here to see if you may have adjusted the choke lever? When I have my choke 'on' at the carb, the choke is still showing wide open? I'm unsure how to adjust or fix this issue, so I'd love to get a better understanding on how that all works! I've spent a good 3 hours looking at other video's, thinking I had an 'auto choke' to find that's not the case, as the HRX217 HXA seems to be a manual choke, but I'm not finding much information on making adjustments...as I've had this lawnmower since they first came out, and it still runs great and cuts well, it's just now, hard to start!

Hello if I don't have one of those gauges what else do you suggest using, maybe a tape measure? Thank you very much for your videos, I just finished replacing a carb and a cracked airfilter box on a Honda HRS216. It's working great but only getting up to 75% to full throttle.

Great videos. What adjustment do I need to do to make the HRX217 travel faster to the 4 MPH top speed. My drive select set to max speed is the same as 2 clicks lower on the speed dial control. Is it just a drive cable tightening with the jam nut?

I need to check this on mine. I have an issue where I pull the throttle back to idle and the idle is too low ands it stalls. Will this fix that?

So I have a similar mower, and even after starting it and putting it on the fast mode something is too tight and it's pushing it back to idle where it's too slow to cut grass. Is this the same issue or is there another issue with this you think?

Am I missing something? At 3:10 you are using a .40 mm feeler gauge. The instructions say " Use a feeler gauge and measure the clearance between the control choke arm and the control lever. The clearance should be 0 ~ 0.040 in gauge

@3:10 use a using 0.40 mm, Yet you say imperial YOU DO KNOW THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN METRIC AND IMPERIAL? FWIW I used 1.0mm feeler gauge to measure the gap and it improved the cold starting.
