+Cole Croley Yeah because having an Old Guard patch, which is voluntarily achieved through dedication, and love towards their country (AND THE FALLEN) is slavery. I didn't know choices were forced in this country...
+Old glory Brian williams is a documented liar. He claimed he was in a helicopter that was shot down over Iraq and then it came out as bullshit. That's why he got fired.
The memes. LMAO, I made a few of my own, including one where he says "So there I was next to Paul Walker beside the Porsche Carerra GT, and I told him 'Let Roger Rodas drive; he knows what he's doing. You're in good hands.' " People loved it. XD
@Tony Mario You're a dumbass who believes REALLY stupid shit from fakefox. How did that "PizzaGate" bullshit work out for you idiots??? Even find the basement? They don't have one!! Been to any QAnon meetings lately? Don't be such a VICTIM of your own ignorance. OH, one more thing...Fat Donnie's money comes from Russia dumbass. Why do you think he hides his taxes?
@Tony Mario Keepdrinking the KoolAid dumbass. There is PLENTY to link Fat Donnie AND his kids to Russian money. Little things likr Eric SAYING it. You dumbasses believe whatever bullshit they come up with daily. SUCKERS!!!
Until someone dons the uniform of this country and serves in the Military, they will NEVER completely understand what guarding "The Tomb" means, let alone what "serving" means to those of us who have... Merry Christmas '14 Ya'll...
Uniforms don't always prove patriotism and courage. It's the service. I've seen kids with so much pride and respect for the US, and I've seen soldiers that cast shame on our history and military. Service does not supply patriots, patriots supply the service.
@@dm3402 I agree. I imagine serving would, of course, give new found respect to this monument, but you don't have be be in the military to understand the significance of this.
@@thecpmr6276 All you have to do is love your country, and you will respect everything about it. It is hard to think that so many people who live in the US hate the country and put shame on it, even though they have so much more freedom compared to some other countries.
No act of god or man will move a Sentinel from their post, I’d argue that even in a war where two sides are battling on either end of Arlington and bullets flying overhead there would still be a guard at the tomb holding their post in full ceremonial dress (probably at that point with a loaded M14)
Actually I was an honor guard elected to be a guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and just so you know IveGotToast, our rifles were loaded as are our side pistols. It is a great honor to be able to be a gaurd at the tombs and I find it severely disrespectful by the comments I see. You may find it stupid what we do but just think if you were us. We are guarding the tomb of a soldier who died doing exactly the same thing we do every day. This guy gave his life for us.
There is a special place in Heaven for those who believe in Jesus Christ as their Savior who serve and sacrifice willingly for their fellow man. No grater love than this, truly. So humbling.
They are there to honor the unknown fallen in arms and to assure their eternal rest is undisturbed until the day of Judgement when all will be awakened from their rest to give account of their time on earth. Long live the Wildcats.
@a50745 As a U.S. Army Paratrooper, thank you for such a well put together response. My father, grandfather, and great grandfather were all Marines. I am a Paratrooper. Although us Paratroopers like to believe we are better than most (also deployable within 24hrs anywhere on the planet behind enemy lines), we all know that we need our Marine, Sailor, and Airmen brothers to our left and right in order to survive, and we need them to be strong regardless of their job.
The guard will attend to his duties no matter what. Preventing the soaking or soiling of his uniform comes second. He can always wash it and iron it afterwards.
3rd Infantry Regiment, not division. The 3rd Division is a considerably larger, mechanized infantry division and is based at Ft.Stewart, GA. The 3rd infantry Regiment, "the Old Guard", is a light infantry unit and the only army unit besides the 75th Ranger Regiment that still uses the designation of "regiment." (Most units of a similar size and organization are called "brigades.") I wish news people were required to take a course in military organization.
Guitcad1 Sounds nice, but not at all true. I was a part of the 4th ADA regiment attached to the 82nd Division assigned to the 2nd brigade combat team, home of the 325th parachute infantry regiment, 319th Artillery regiment ect...
jspee1965 There are battalions that have the designation of the regiment to which they originally belonged, but the regiment itself no longer exists as a distinct unit. For example, I served in the 1st battalion, 82nd Field Artillery Regiment as part of the 1st Cavalry Division. There were two other FA battalions in the 1st Cav, 2/82 FA and 3/82 FA. All three were originally part of the 82nd Field Artillery Regiment, but the 82nd FA Regiment itself no longer exists. There is no commander of the 82nd Field Artillery, no Headquarters/82nd FA. The three battalions are under the direct command of 1st Cavalry Division Artillery (DIVARTY) and each is attached to one of the three line brigades of that division. While the individual units within regiments still use that designation the regiments themselves have been split up and no longer exist, with the only exceptions being the 75th Ranger and 3rd Infantry regiments.
As I understand it, the logic behind that system was that when soldiers came up for a change of station they would transfer to one of their sister battalions at another location. I don't think it ever worked out that way, as I went through numerous regimental crests in my two hitches.
the only time i will ever stand for that anthem is when i am standing in front of the tomb of the unknown soldier. those lost deserve to be respected, and i wont stand for the anthem because i love america -- i do it because you should always be standing when in the presence of the memorial of heroes. they fought under a flag that today is frowned upon, but during those times it was a statement, one that could save or kill someone.
@@CommonCentsRob ;; america isn't the best country like we were brainwashed to believe, and the government is heavily flawed and they refuse to take action and fix it. we have to protest for years for them to even make little changes. the only time you are ever treated "equally" is when you are a straight cis white man -- there is no liberty and justice for all.
This guy is not a "Guard" in the literal sense that he`s protecting the tomb. He`s a ceremonial honor guard there to display how strongly the nation values her fallen soldiers. I doubt that rifle is even capable of firing, much less loaded. You think the guys in bearskin hats and red coats are the real security at Buckingham? And someone screwed up big leaving that flag up during a hurricane. They`re supposed to put up a much smaller polyester (which is more durable) flag during bad weather. The flag all torn up and half detached from the pole is disgraceful.
Evidence Chan Actually the red coat Royal Guards are tasked with guard duty with fully functional modern weapons. They are more on the side of functionality rather than tradition since they do guard the royal palace. The honor guards like the one stationed here however are just protecting a tomb and so I think they can get away with more ceremonial weapons.
They are still fully functional, and the bayonet is real as well, however they are not loaded and are carried obviously more for ceremonial reasons. But yes, the honor guard is a physical symbol of one of the most important oaths we take, "I will never leave a fallen comrade". Traditions in the military, such as these give the soldiers in these units that sense of pride, being apart of something that they can carry with them long after they hang up the uniform.
This video reminded me how great (politics aside) our country is & the pride i feel to see our military display Duty, Honor, & Loyalty, even in the face of mothers nature wrath. this is something our children should see and our society must learn.
Some of the comments on these videos....I'm just glad my husband, father in law, grandpa, other grandpa, step mom, nephew....non of them read things like what people say about this duty or ANY other duty. In order Air Force (husband), Navy and then Coast Guard (FIL), Army (grandpa), Navy (other grandpa), Marine (step mom), and Air Force (nephew)....they get an assignment and they go and DO as told. It doesn't f**king MATTER if YOU think it is necessary. What matters is SOMEONE, SOMEWHERE that is trained and authorized to make that call DOES think it is necessary, and until the day that CO f**king says OTHERWISE, they will remain at that post, they will fulfill the duties outlined with ALL DUE RESPECT to the tomb, the soldiers, and the people THEY REPRESENT that are still alive. If people don't LIKE it...watch another video. There are millions. You're lucky my husband and my family don't think YOU all don't deserve them. Then again, they're too busy keeping you all ALIVE to have time to spend on RU-vid. I WISH, often, they didn't end up giving what they do for people who don't appreciate it. STFU, stay out of the boundaries that you are asked to, and have some damn respect for the rules and for YOURSELF. Acting a FOOL at a NATIONAL monument for Hell's sake. "Is it under attack??" NOT TODAY MORON...because there are GUARDS THERE. #my7yroldhasmorerespectthanyoudo
Calm down I respect people that serve as much as the next guy but just because your family served doesnt give you the justification to get this mad smh
Im from an army family and I agree. WHen I was little I had a Hyperactive friend who would run around wrestle jump me bite me and when he got older chase the teenage girls all over the neighborhood and he eventually joined the marines. I think from an Army Family perspective there are different channels to go through so if your hyper active and have to much energy that the marines is a channel for that. But i wouldnt join. but you will learn discipline too if you are not self disciplined.
@marcusos1111 to these men it is the Highest HONOR they will ever acheive guarding this grave.. and they have in bad conditions been given the choice to seek shelter.. None have ever left their post ... and this is they CHOICE... since 1937 this grave has been guarded by some of the best this country has.... and god willing it will be guarded until 2937!!!!
Yep. The whole story is that it wasn’t a hurricane and a hurricane has never hit Arlington, VA not even once in all of world history. At best this was tropical storm force winds.. and I doubt even that.
There is a famous case of a woman in a neighboring apartment that was struck by a stray rifle bullet from a guard. In the 1940's, if I recall. Perhaps they stopped carrying loaded weapons after that.
@carol nelson it shouldn't have been flying in the first place. And according to the flag code (yes there are legit rules for the flag) it states that if the American flag is not fit for service (whether it be dirty or torn), then it is no longer good to fly and is subject to a ceremonial flag burning. There are actually special procedures and organizations that go into flag burning like folding the flag, saying the pledge of allegiance and more.
I'm sure the public wouldn't have minded if they took cover under cover during a hurricane. I mean, no one wants them to be blown into oblivion somewhere.
during storms, they are supposed to lower the flag. its disrespectful to even allow it to become tattered. The VFW will accept free of charge old american flags to have a proper burning ceremony.
@shinydiscoballz1 The CIA was on the ground only days after 9/11. After the Northern Aliance was convinced the US would not bail out on them again, Air Force Combat Controllers were brought in to provide targeting for bombers. This was a month or two before line ground forces entered.
At everyone saying that Brian Williams is incredulous and a "libtard:" did you actually hear what he said? He was saying that it's an honor to stand guard at the Tomb. He was saying that they held their posts. I didn't hear anything disrespectful in what he said. This is coming from a proud, PATRIOTIC, "libtard" currently serving the United States.
the rifle is still in production and has been since the 1930`s. it is used by hundreds of countries. you* mad? and yes, yes I did just reply to you half a year later
? I'm pretty sure that they are still loaded. Almost all guards weapons are loaded, as are the Royal Guard in Britain, etc etc. Plus, that wouldn't have stopped the usage of live ammunition. That kind of thing happens all the time in home defense.
@kar98k1000 "besides the special forces the marines are the most elite branch of the United States armed forces are the Marines" I mean no disrespect, but you sound uninformed, or may be very too young. Let me help you out. The special forces are part of the Army, not a separate branch. As a Marine, I appreciate your vote of confidence. We consider ourselves elite because of our core values of honor, courage and commitment, as well as the standards of we hold for ourselves. (continued)
@kar98k1000 "With that said, we differ from other branches in that we are a smaller and more mobile branch, and can deploy anywhere within 24 hours. We teach leadership at the lowest levels, among other differences. The most elite (within the Marine Corps) are those with the 0321 Reconnaise MOS. I have fought besides other branches and my brother is an Army soldier. Every unit is as strong as its weakest link. And ever individual is a strong as he allows himself to be; mentally and physically.
@kar98k1000 Whether its Recon, Nave SEALs, Para-Jumpers, Rangers, Delta, etc. They have different missions, different chains of command. Marine Corps recruit training and the School of Infantry are a motherfucker to get through, and I'm led to believe our chain of command put us through more bullshit than the others lol, but each Marine, Airman, Sailor, Soldier is as weak or as strong as he or she CHOOSES to be. Anyone whom chooses to enlist is elite in their own right. Thanks for your support
You know, not to take away from how dedicated these men are, but I think the British had a better idea for the unknown soldier's tomb. They put theirs inside Westminster Abbey. Obviously, this means the guards don't have to stand out exposed to the weather.
Cody Adler on the official government website they had a faq about the subject. They say the weapons are real but decide not to disclose the matter if the guns are loaded or not. They asked if the subject would be respected and not be persistent of knowing the absolute truth
