Hey brother, I have a theory why Percy was being so secretive about his dates with Penelope. We know he is a fifth year and at the end he gets 12 owls. According to you guys he is bound to have a time turner. So I think that he was using the time turner to get the time for the date. So basically one Percy is in Griffindore common room studying whereas other Percy is on a date with Penelope. He keeps it so secretive so that no Griffindore sees him first in the common room and then in some other place in the castle. The reason to choose the dungeons is because Griffindore hates Slytherin and no Griffindore will go there

Interesting, but I doubt it. In Book 2, Percy would be in 6th year. He would have dropped a few classes after OWLs exams, so he would no longer have a timeturner, according to SCB theory.

Adding this comment to your newest video bc I'm not sure how often comments are checked. I was listening to y'alls podcast on the way home from work when a sudden thought occurred to me: I know that children who suppress their magic will become obscurus. But what happens to adults who have had their wands snapped? One would think that they could continue to work on wandless magic, but not everyone can achieve that. So then, what happens to the poor sods who are magically repressed? Are they doomed to a long, drawn-out death/transformation into an obscurus? What measures have been put in place by the Ministry to prevent such occurrences, if any? Long-time follower (since at least 2016), first-time commentor, I absolutely love the videos y'all make!❤

So I've made this comment on a previous video, but just wanted to confirm that Voldemort's name is Tom Elvis Jedusor in french to spell out Je Suis Voldemort. Also wands are called Baguette Magique (not sure on that spelling) And I'm pretty sure that in the book, Draco does comment to Ginny about Harry not liking the valentine's song, to which I do have to wonder how he would guess it was from Ginny in the first place

As many things as Hermoine got right, she got in the way of so many solutions as well because she refused to accept Harry’s and Ron’s opinions and theories. Also, if people would just get to the point when talking to each other, so many problems would already be solved. If Sirius had just told Harry that Peter killed his parents instead of saying that he did because he blamed himself, so much trouble could have been avoided. Also, if he could sneak into the school, he could leave a note for Lupin saying that Peter is alive, Harry has the map, check it.

I have a few theories as to why Ginny waited so long to ransack Harry's room: 1. Still influenced by Tom's charm, perhaps she was afraid to "confront" him. 2. Fear of being caught. 3. Fear of being possessed again. 4. As she poured her soul into it, she feels a longing for it. 5. Tom Riddle, somehow, managed to get her to steal it again. And it took 6 weeks for him to gather the magic to pull it off.

You guys forgot something about the Anglia: on the first night, as soon as they were clear of the Whomping Willow, the car spit the boys and their belongings out and noped off into the forest, completely of its own accord. Thus, even before reaching Hogwarts, it had at least a self-preservation instinct, if not some degree of sentience.

My headcannon is that the Diary is important because it's the first time he pulled off the Imperius Curse on a Muggle, making them buy the diary and he takes it from them.

Day 8 of asking can you do a video where the Potters survived? The scenario I'll make up is when Voldemort breaks in, Instead of killing James, he tortures and used the paralyzing spell on him and makes him pass out and plans to finish him off later when Harry is dead because as Snape said, he likes waiting for his enemies to beg for death before killing them. Upstairs with Lily, the same thing basically happens except Lily misses the curse and falls on the ground. Harry still gets the love protection and Voldemort still loses his body because Lily was prepared to sacrifice herself for Harry. We saw this in Deathly Hallows when Harry's protection from sacrificing himself stopped Voldemort from torturing Neville when he stood up, Even though Harry didn't die.

The reason the Basilisk keeps saying "tear, rip," is because he WANTS to to rip and tear. But Tom Riddle is ordering him to kill by sight. Bassie is just in the walls complaining lol

Knowing Hagrid, if Dippet confronted him about the monster, Hagrid will immediately come clean and try to convince him that Aragog is harmless. Which is, sort of, an admission of guilt.

For my money, while Tom is exerting an influence on Jenny she in also exerting a counter influence on him through her stolen life force. Thus Tom as Jenny is writing an embarrassing love note to Harry XD

What if Tom received the diary as a gift? Maybe from before he knew he was a wizard and went to Hogwarts? The fact it has his full name stamped into the cover. Also gives some significance to Auntie Mabels birthday, a woman who worked at Wools Orphanage? Years later at Hogwarts he uses it to plot a diabolical tribute to Salazar Slytherin's noble work. Myrtle's death was a bit of a surprise to him and using diary in creation of horcrux symbolic as it happened by accident right at the entrance to Chamber of Secrets?

I believe Newt had Aragog because he saved him. Someone might've illegally bred Aragog and the spider might've been sentenced to be put down, but Newt saved him. As for how Hagrid got him, Newt would probably only trust a non-human person with Aragog. That or the two bonded.

I don't think Ginny was in Myrtle's bathroom to "destroy" or chuck Riddle's diary down a toilet... Ginny was there to open chamber and actually foiled an attack. It's almost Valentine's day, the last attack on Justin and Sir Nick was awhile ago. We know from Riddle that Ginny's lapses of memory and robes covered in rooster feathers she began to suspect diary. What if she'd been resisting Tom's control over her past few months? More to the point, on this day Ginny fights off Tom's possession as she comes out of trance in girls bathroom, realizes what's happening then hurls the diary into Myrtle's toilet in act of desperation as she runs away. Cue Harry and Ron, also Harry only has the diary a short time, trying to escape Ginny's singing Valentine his bag rips and she sees diary. Ransacked boys dorm to find it and almost immediately unable to resist Tom's possession and Hermione's attacked with Penelope. Also enjoyed the tiny hints of Ron's crush on Hermione throughout CoS, from his disdain for Lockhart, literally barfing up slugs to defend her honor and how upset he is when she's prettified. Thanks so much for this podcast what a wonderful way to comb over entire series. Will you be touring the Midwest eventually too?

is the line about the eyes and the toad in Ginny poem a subtle clue for harry to find out it is a basilisk, it is probably just foreshadowing but still, could be cool to think that ginny was desperately trying to help it all stop…

Quick correction after the fact. It was Stephen Fry that can't say Harry pocketed it, not Jim Dale. I am sure this was mentioned before now, but I'm not scrolling through all the comments lol also, I do disagree with the theory of Filch being a poltergeist because he would have always been at Hogwarts, but we know there were other caretakers before him. Anyway, that's the end of my ramble. Great episode as always, gentlemen!

Stephen Fry is hilarious, haven't had pleasure of listening to this version. Also agree Filch can't be a Poltergeist, although his very existence does seem cruel otherwise. Not sure if it's canon but as Dumbledore entrusts him to restore Fat Lady (plus he succeeded without magic) that Filch is an expert in ancient artifacts, hired in a curatorial role not just a caretaker. As he's so unpleasant, hates kids and mess, maybe mopping up after students keeps him busy and gives him something to winge about other than Peeves? But overseeing the preservation and upkeep of the castle and it's artifacts requires a trained curator yet something a Squib could manage with occasional magical assistance from other staff.

@iRazenrak All of these are great theories! As a book marketed to children its amazing how many REALLY bad themes are glossed over. Like the fact Lockhart is the definition of a serial predator! Yet somehow his character is written as a comic releif... Ginny's horrific experiances are even less apparent to the reader. In a way its Ginny's ultimate fear that Tom will spill her secrets to Harry that i think wins out over the rest. Also likely fearing for Harry and Ron by proximity, knowing by now what Tom is capable of and steals it back to protect them. #4 especially, by this point the peice of soul is likely so connected to Ginny she probably didnt even need to open or write in diary for Riddle to flit in between the Horcrux and Ginny to posses and control an 11 year old girl.

In next chapter 16 it always bothers me that Ron doesn’t keep Lockhart’s wand. Coming from a wizard family and growing up with The tales of Beedle the Bard, he should know that winning’s or stealing a wand means getting its allegiance. And since he can’t use his /percy’s old wand, (why doesn’t Percy still use it?) he should have just kept it.

I would guess he's not thinking about his wand being broken; he's just thinking about stopping Lockhart. Also, if he had Lockhart’s wand later, Lockhart probably picks it up in the Chamber later on and uses it to cast the memory charm, which means it doesn't backfire, so it was a good thing he didn't keep it.

If Snape was using love as occulemency, Voldemort would notice it. That's why he recoiled from Harry. Snape shows Voldemort false memories Also I believe Snape mastered Occulmency on Voldemort's commands as it seems the high ranking Death Eaters all know it, AND incase James Potter ever learned Legimency and used it on him.
