The live version of this is great as well. ALSO, Seo is legendary and did a 25th anniversary show with BTS....all of their old songs were performed with a live rock band and the old hip hop choreo. Seo's lyric messages are very similar to BTS and timeless at that....he's their parents age now. I've read that when this song was released back in '94, there was a runaway epidemic in Korea and this song was instrumental in bringing many kids 'back home'. Hope you get to check out the anniversary show!!

In Korea, there was talk that 'ultramania' was similar to the music of 'Limp Bizkit' or 'Korn', and some even said it was plagiarism. And in an interview with Limp Bizkit, who came to Korea to embarrass Seo Taiji at a Korean broadcasting station that hates Seo Taiji, he played the 'ultramania' CD. What's interesting is that Limp Bizkit, who heard 'ultramania', said, 'It's different from their own music, it's very original' and asked for the CD and took it with them. And in 2008, he was invited to perform at a concert hosted by Seo Taiji. korn was also invited to perform at a concert hosted by Seo Taiji in 2004.

Hello, you said something during Ultramania reaction that this might have not been received well in S.Korea. In fact it was. Hugely. The first song, Come Back Home, was during the early 1990's & Ultramania was around the Y2k era, so now the latter is 23 years ago. As some commenters may have already said, he is considered the Father of KPop, although he did not invent KPop on purpose, it was mainly inadvertent. It's a long story. But he is not part of, or under, KPop himself, he is still basically an indie artist, both during Taiji & Boys, & also during his Nu-metal era, & even up to this day. He is the "father" & KPop is his "child". The inspiration, influence, impetus & template of KPop basically came from him during the Boys era. It's the formfactor of Singing + Dancing, & thus so far that is what the performances of KPop has since been. However, slowly but surely, KPop has been bringing in instrument bands in the form of rock bands, thus some KPop groups are playing instruments & singing. You have to realize that the big irony of KPop is that its sound & style became more pop, hiphop, R&B & choreography, yet Seo Taiji is himself is first & foremost a rock/metal musician since the 1980's. But at the same time the KPop pop sound did also come from him. That might be kinda confusing to new people getting into KPop. But imagine in an alternate universe where Seo Taiji did accidentally create not K-Pop, but K-Metal instead & that timeline would be listening to tons of KMetal rock & metal bands, becoming a global sensation, just as KPop is doing in our universe. Anyway, hopefully you will react to more Taiji. I recommend a 7-minute snippet of the song "Classroom Idea" that features BTS rapping along with him at his 2017 concert, but there are no subtitles. There was another Classroom Idea clip that had captions but the channel seems to have disappeared. Unfortunately, the official SeoTaiji channel does not really do closed captions, so you will have to google lyrics yourself, or find lyrics videos by 3rd parties, as lyrics are an important part of Taiji. There are many other Taiji songs of course that you can find here on yt. He does other genres & had also done an orchestral rock mix in 2008 with a symphonic band. The pandemic had also messed up his touring plans those few years ago, so he now has been doing other stuff, including a cinematic conversion of that 2017 concert. He is now in his 50's so it's possible that touring may not be in his future, but you never know. My last observation is that without Seo Taiji, there would obviously be no such thing as KPop, as it exists now, thus none of the KPop groups for the past quarter century would probably not have existed, including BTS & Blackpink, the 2 globally biggest bands at the moment & I don't just mean biggest within the context of KPop, I mean biggest most popular bands worldwide, including google search hits (BTS is considered the biggest band). And all that thanks to Seo Taiji (which is really just his stage name).
@Imjustouttahere
@Imjustouttahere 10 месяцев назад
I love you for writing all that, also I still don't know if I should actually call seo taiji a kpop artist when I'm trying to introduce him to people because they are going to think it's like "nowdays kpop" but it's like a whole different sound
@robwebnoid5763
@robwebnoid5763 9 месяцев назад
@@Imjustouttahere ... Just tell new people that Seo Taiji is not KPop, he only highly influenced what that industry & the bands were going to look & sound like. I would say that KPop's sound has never really changed that much since it started 25 years ago, after Seo Taiji & Boys disbanded. And the performance formfacter has never changed yet, it is still Singing+Dancing, as I said above, patterned mostly after "Seo Taiji & Boys". There were other smaller sources, but I think "Taiji & Boys" were the main influence. KPop has yet to fully incorporate Rock & Metal music, which is what Seo Taiji's main genres are, but you never know, that could happen in KPop's future. For now, Japanese J-Rock & J-Metal is where the global popularity is at today. It might still be confusing, but new fans just have to go down that rabbit hole a little at a time. Also, K-Pop is not inherently Korean either, because practically all of KPop originated from the west/US. You can also steer new people to watch DKDKTV's video essay here on youtube... "KPOP HISTORY in 20mins | From SeoTaiji to BTS".

On Come Back Home, BTS did a cover of it and 2EN1 had a song called Come Back Home as well which paid homage to it. Seo Taiji was in Sinawe before Seo Taiji And The Boys, which was a heavy metal group. And then Ultramania was after Seo Taiji And the Boys. He is an interesting character. Don't forget about his MAMA performance. Some other 1st generation groups to possibly check out include Fin.K.L (Lee Hyori's group), g.o.d., Sechs Kies, and H.O.T. I don't have specific songs for them as I probably only listened to them as part of variety shows. Also early Epik High. Their big hit that put them on the map was "Fly". And for even more early hip hop, there is Drunken Tiger as well. I will wait some more to give some 2nd gen recommendations, besides the ones I mentioned last week.

I'm enjoying your content. And I thought a lot about writing comments after seeing this content recently recommended in the algorithm. What I was worried about is information about Seo Taiji. I'd like to give you his history briefly. Seo Taiji dropped out of high school at the age of 17 with a desire for music from childhood. At the age of 18, he began his official career as a bassist in a legendary heavy metal band called "Sinawe". The name 'Seo Taiji' has been used since then. From this point on, he studied composition and arrangement deeply, and began to be imprinted as a musician recognized by his acquaintances. Later, during the downturn of the 'Sinawe' band, he withdrew and became independent. After becoming independent, Seo focused more on composition and production. I want to do music that fits overseas pop music trends, so I make "Seo Taiji and Boys" to do rap music genres. "Seo Taiji and Boys" became a huge hit in the Korean pop music industry and won the title of president of culture. It has been the most popular rap dance music based on hip-hop for about five years, and the members have agreed to break up the team under the pressure of too much popularity. About three years later, Seo Taiji will release an EP-oriented one-man band album, "Five," saying he wants to do rock music again. It is famous for its album full of messages that pay tribute to fans with alternative rock music. If you have a chance, I recommend you listen to the "Five" album. Pop music is not perfect, but it is an inflection point in his career in terms of message. (I recommend Take 5) In 2000, he organized "Seo Taiji Band" and started to do new metal music. The new metal genre started its career as a heavy metal, and I think it was the music he wanted to do because he devoted himself deeply to hip-hop music during "Seo Taiji and the Kids." It will be very popular, selling nearly 1 million copies each of the 6th, 7th, 8th, and 9th albums. He is a person who has achieved everything he wants to do as a musician by selling out live tours. I think his musical challenges and achievements have had a lot of influence on the current K-pop market. In the industry, I think there are many issues that would not have been advanced if he had not been for him, including the method of making records, the relationship between artists and production companies, the relationship between artists and fans, and the issues related to record copyrights. Although it is a very poor English composition, I hope that the intention to convey information about "Seo Taiji" will be well conveyed. I think I wrote it for too long. I'm sorry, but I want to tell you^^
