feels like it just became the best tool in the game ngl, also the krag buff is definitely unnecessary it seems like it'll probably the best rifle in the bayou for a little while
Yeah, they just straight up decided to break Hunt. The spear almost feels like someone said "They're complaining that the katana is too strong. Let's make a Katana that you can throw, show them what a really strong melee is."
this update doesn't feel right. It's good Krag got more reserve ammo but absolutely did not need 126 damage. spear is too good to be a tool slot. they are probably going to have to rebalance these things later which is a shame

I honestly think the spear carves out a niche for itself. You make noise to charge it up unless you have silent killer, and it has the same range as a bow. You also would be sacrificing your melee slot for the spear instead of a blunt option like knuckle knife or dusters. It can be thrown accurately and can one tap reliably unlike the axe and throwing knife. Honestly though I think they should have just made it an actual weapon instead of a tool.
Agreed, needs nerf. Should be a large weapon slot, maybe holding 3 spears, special ammo box gives back 2 spears. Getting a trait for it to make it stronger in melee, and fly faster when thrown. Imo it does too much damage lol. Should have range falloff, should not be better than crossbow, let alone NITRO
Exactly. Its a bit out of line, cool concept but not well-adjusted Also, throwing the sledgehammer & others are also survivable. This should at most mimic assailant throws bc you already have the ability to bring it in and retain it in inventory when swapping to other things, and frontiersman gives 2. It has tons of upsides & no downside at all.
@@sandercohen5543not really good players will still use the knife. A lot players thought the heavy knife would outshine the knife but clearly the knife even the knuckle knife is superior to heavy knife.
@@sandercohen5543 it does. If we can get down to the brass tacks tho, the melee weapons need changes. If you have started a reload on a brawler variant, it is faster to completely holster it & pull out dusters than it is to simply close the cylinder & punch with it in hand. Same with the knife & claw variants. The katana as a 1 slot is fastly superior to all others besides the hatchet variants and the lance, yeah its more "expensive" but melee weapons are not expensive to begin with & it is $~50 more. Theres been good changes but it needs just a little bit more refinement.
Agreed. Could initiate some fun times too. Someone misses the spear throw on you, and you pick it up and throw it back (again, with assailant). Of course, dropping a weapon to pick up the spear. In fact, I want all melee slot weapons to be throwable with assailant.
At a weapon slot, it would be a joke. The crossbow buckshot already has the same feature of killing anywhere at at distance with way less downsides. But requiring martialist to throw is reasonable
makes me kinda concerned for future balance because this seems so out of line compared to every weapon and tool thats similar. if they dont want to slow down the spear and keep it viable for kills on players I would hope they bring the throwing axe bow and crossbows in line since this spear is nearly hitscan compared to them
i think it is fair because the amount of spare throwing weapon we have is actually making it balance. without trait, a skilled knife user can kill 2-3 hunter with it, a skilled axe user can kill 2 hunter but a skilled spear user can only kill 1 hunter. i agree on heavy knife part. that weapon need some balancing to make it special. maybe adding additional effect to it will make it useful such as option to dip it in poison for poison melee attack or serrated blade for bleeding.
Throwing Spear is a fun addition, but it needs to be a weapon and not a tool slot. By making it a tool slot, all close-range encounters are spear fights. literally EVERYONE will now have melee weapons and getting close is nearly a guaranteed trade, or death. Which in turn, leads to more stalemates because the people that play this game play like if they die in game they'll die IRL.
So the spear is a oneshot tool slot weapon with 2 uses that can onehit anywhere regardless of where you hit and it shoots faster than a rifle and travel time and drop better than a bow. Crytech powercreep at full display once again. Remember some years ago when the vanilla officer was considered op? Now we have dolch precision deadeye with fmj and oneshot tolls that you can throw over 25m.

And throwing knives like worse throwing axes? I think they all have their advantages. The spear has a less aggressive drop than throwing axes, does more damage over more distance (as in melee) however just has one or two (with perk) shots which makes it quite risky in that regards. The other thing it does bad overall is the crazy stamina consumption - you can't melee with it too well unless you bring stamina shots.
Having an extra throwable is really crucial. I think the spear is fun, but the axes definitely still have their uses. I.e. I would not take out kennels or a hive on a roof with spears.
@@hero-0f-war axes are just too good against bosses and armoreds and hentai noodles and grounded hives to sleep on them. Countless times them helped me to sneak up unnoticed or clear the way quickly in a compound fight.
spear is a super cool idea but i dunno why they had to choose the ugliest skyrim dwarven cave spear out there and not just go with a traditional viking or medieval style polished steel spear skin...
because a viking spear is a skin and wouldnt make sense as the common appearance for it. The base skin is a medieval style spear with real roots and a very easy style of manufacture. Theres always a reason.
the hit box is also INSANLY big. was trying testing dummies and in order to not one shot i had to aim like a foot to there side just to hit arm. (and even then, the follow up on spear quick attack is insane)
@@atumalaka4835 it was a new and interesting take on long ammo. Low damage drop off, high fire rate, high penetration, under 125. With the ability to 1 tap at close range its gonna be wild in the bayou for a hot minute
Yeah, it's rediculous. And I say this as the Krag has been my favourite long ammo gun since it came out, but this is too much. The 124 damage was the whole point of it's existence and now they've erased that point. Unreal. The ammo pool increase is great, but they should have just dropped the price. The damage buff is too much.
Cool concept,but feel like they need to move it to 3 slot primary weapon slot with 2 spears max capacity, remove 1 shot in limbs. Maybe adjust the velocity also
Spear is just blatantly overpowered and outperforms every other thrown and melee in the game lol - It's melee attack does same damage as any primary melee weapon like Katana or Bomb Lance, and way more damage than any melee tool like knuckle knife / heavy knife making all other melee's useless -Long melee attack range - One shots all pve with a throw - One shots players with a throw no matter where you hit them, even their pinky toe and they will die - Insanely fast melee attack animations -Only thrown item in the game that lets you both aim and throw while sprinting with zero movement delay -Way too fast throwing animation -Way too fast projectile speed -Barely any bullet drop It has literally every advantage and none of the disadvantages and is straight up statistically better than any other thrown or melee and only costs 60 coins lmao.... It just made every other melee / thrown in the game redundant.
9:56 Newer players might try to kill the person in the tower by throwing a grenade into it, so rachta tricked him by pretending to do this, while knowing the guy in tower would try to kill him as soon as he stepped up to throw into tower... except rachta played UNO-reverse! I really hope they need the crap out of the spear. It is more effective than any other tool weapon, all melee 1 slot weapons, and most shotguns. The day before it came out, my buddy died after headshotting someone at 19m with slugs, which had an effective range 16m. How does a slug to the head deal less damage than a spear to the legs?
The speed of spear is insane, javelin throwres on olympic games has ave. speed about 20-25 m/s. it should be adjust. same as a drop/curve of throw. but i am glad for diversification of meele weapons.
Honestly, I think it’s too early to be calling for nerfs. It’s strong, yes, but basically requires frontiersman and stamina shot otherwise it’s just a pain to use. If you bait it out by jump peaking, boom, spears gone, and they ain’t getting it back anytime soon. I don’t think it should one shot to the legs, and MAYBE a reduced onetap range to the arms. Overall though, I reckon hunters will get used to versing the spear pretty quickly and learn to bait it out and push corners more cautiously against rifle users.
Crytek finally did throwable bomb lance damages eh?? As a melee builder, the recipe for melee build is: Silent Killer, Whispersmith, Determination (like Greyhound if you Sniper-useful but not super necessary) Conduit and Adrenaline for the trades(long fights or Conduit only got 2 clues) ...Well at least in pre pandemic Hunt The point of a melee build is to not rely on stamina shots at all if possible so you can bring heals, beetles or explosives when they are ranging you. However, recent updates have made stamina shots abundant in match and Katana broke melee meta with Martialist as it makes all the melee build perks pointless and it out ranges a Bomb Lance outside of Steel Ball bolts. Shotgun for whiff baits or medium rifle dum dum for the heavy pressure are good support slots Quinx has good melee kit vids although he plays them more as a shotgun kit; nevertheless he has very good knowledge of melee fighting (when to rush, how far to chase, decoy use) P.S. I'm a fan of Krag, but 126 Krag is crazy- I mean if they want to make Krag be the new Mosin its fine; but the prices should be adjusted. Also they buff after I finished them in my Gunbook :(
I love the idea of the spear, but it feels wayyyyy too OP as it is. The one-shot power is ridiculous, light melee is way too fast and makes even pre-nerf baseball bat look like a toy, projectile speed is fast enough to not make hitting stuff at range _that_ hard, the throw AND melee ranges are kinda crazy (I mean it's a spear, so it makes sense, but still xD)... As it is, I feel it simply renders pretty much any and all other melee weapons in the game obsolete and irrelevant, _including bomb-lance_ which is a Primary slot. This isn't healthy. Also, the design of the spear is quite cool, but doesn't feel relevant at all in a Far West setting to me... ^^'

Dying to it, is not the problem. The spear makes literally any other tool and meele weapon obsolete. Besides the fact, that it oneshots against the foot, which not even the Nitro does and it flies almost faster than a Crossbow bolt. It’s just silly.

Me and my friend were going into games with nothing but heals and spears the other day leaving with full kits and bounties. It's not that hard at all to land the throws.

Personally not a fan of the aesthetic of this weapon in both design and animation. It's a bit too "clean" when the weaponry in general has always felt very "human error" to it/worn down and time period as well as matching the darkness of the world and how people are scraping by. And having the Native American looks as well as the Japanese themes made sense in a world where there is a supernatural/occult feel and other civilizations that would be dealing with this. This thing straight up looks Roman/Greek in the animation and the skin being used. It just looks so "Super Hero" in animation and screams Brad Pitt throwing it and superman punching his way to victory. Might just be me :)
This feels waaay too strong, for once I didn't enjoy watching rachta play, I just felt second hand frustration from all the people he killed with that unfair weapon. The way spears have been implemented is awful for balance, making bows and crossbows irrelevant other than for custom ammo, being more forgiving than slugs since they don't require aiming at centre mass/head, and having no loss of situational awareness like the nitro, is just disgusting. It shouldn't one-shot extremities, since not even throwing world-spawn melees does this, most of them being bigger and theoretically, more destructive than spears. The velocity should be lowered to bring it them in line with throwing the likes of a pitchfork or shovel and they shouldn't one-shot everywhere. Having a tool that's one of the best weapons in the game is just an awful idea. Really hope Crytek address this quick.
This makes be believe that Crytech doesnt know what they are doing with this game. Why would you make a weapon that is a guarenteed oneshot, has the same melee range as the katana + trait, can be thrown (with little to no drop), and is a tool instead of a weapon. There is not one reason to play any melee weapons like the sword or katana (Bomblance wasnt seen very often before but no it wont be seen at all) when you get the full damage and dont even have to waste a weapon slot for it. U can run long ammo, medium distance pistol and speer and you cover every range. This is unbalanced and just stupid af. Also, you cant even see the animation when someone holds the speer to throw it, it just looks like the hunter is holding it normaly, so not even counterplay is included. This is a joke lol
While i think this is a cool addition, it still sort of makes me less motivated to play hunt showdown, you can get a melee weapon AS A TOOL that probably is one of the best if not the best melee weapon in the game, because it has ranged one shot potential ( and a high chance at that ) and pretty good light attacks too. Not saying a bomb lance, katana or saber is not better in other ways, but remember the spear is a TOOL.. it doesnt take up a weapon slot.
they should really focus on server quality and hitpoint registration than this bs....not enough we need to deal with suprises like bats and katanas....the game is hard enough with them....not a fan of the spear....

Needs nerf to effective kill range. I get it’s a spear but not even the throwing axe 1 shots unless it’s close range. If it lines up with the throwing axe I’d be fine but this is busted.
This weapon isn't as broken as people are thinking because Rachta is using frontiersman (7 points) and stamina shot. However: - This speed is insane, it needs to be nerfed (consequently a slightly higher drop) - It would be interesting if it required assailant to throw at distances higher than 10 meters
Played a few games with it, and listen I agree the spear is an issue and it's currently a bit too strong. However! Using it has also been the most fun I've had in hunt in over a year lmao, it's very satisfying to throw the instakill stick at people, even when I also die when they hit my toes.
I think it is fun because it just released, imagine this in half a year when you are still dying because the guy hit your pinky. This will go into "Spear, ofcourse, what else can that be", the same as people about spitzer snipers headshooting you from another game.
They need to stop adding all these overpowered meme weapons. If spears were better than rifles then rifles would never have existed in the first place.
People are gonna say this is OP because of one hit but they forget that is like, a key part of Hunt's combat. Sure it's annoying, but realistically one shotting hunters when thrown is it's only real advantage. It doesn't outright outperform other melees (in my opinion at least) and as a ranged weapon you're kind of putting yourself in a high risk high reward situation because you have to *pray* you'll hit the spear before they hit their shot, which as a throwing weapon and not a bullet isn't likely.
I agree for the most part, but it definitely needs a tweak or two. At the VERY least sabre needs a buff. The cavalry sabre being outclassed by a TOOL is insane.
Imagine getting one shot by a spear after a madman spams infinite fire ammo Krag at your team and then you get penny shot derringer'd. This game is a megameme now
I love it but its so busted. I basically have no reason to bring a secondary melee unless I use a martialist katana. Range is insane on both the attack and the throw. Only downside is it can't cut concertina and it sets off immolators. Maybe keep stats if it has a windup like the throwing axe but idk
